The Dialog includes a radiobutton pair for setting the direction of search to be either Up (with U underlined) or Down (D). On Mac OSX, pressing Cmd+U to set the radiobutton only selects the label, but does not actually make the radiobutton be checked. However, the original behaviour on Windows does check the radiobutton. Therefore, the radiobutton has then to be made active either by using the mouse, or using the Space key. The attached screenshot shows the state immediately after pressing Cmd+U. Old versions of Notepad can't open big text files. Instead, Notepad displays a message saying "The file FILENAME is too large for Notepad. Use another editor to edit the file." Wine crashes instead of displaying this message. A giant file can be created in numerous ways. I used a small python script: for i in range(1999999): print i "python script.py > giant.txt" gives a giant file. I tried opening the file using Wine running Notepad and using DOSBox running Windows 3.1 running Notepad. Windows 3.1 is just a normal DOS application, so it runs fine under DOSBox. I'm attaching a PNG file displaying the differences between Wine and DOSBox. That's fine. However, when enabling the console ENABLE_VIRTUAL_TERMINAL_PROCESSING mode on stdout with SetConsoleMode, no error is returned, so the application has no way to detect whether VT sequences are supported or not. This is documented in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/console/setconsolemode. The port of Turbo Vision at https://github.com/magiblot/tvision is affected by this. When using the Console API, Turbo Vision prefers VT sequences over SetConsoleCursorPosition/SetConsoleTextAttribute for code reusability and performance. Nevertheless, it can fall back to the latter method when SetConsoleMode fails to enable either ENABLE_VIRTUAL_TERMINAL_PROCESSING or DISABLE_NEWLINE_AUTO_RETURN. Since SetConsoleMode does not return error on wineconsole, garbage is shown instead of a colorful interface. STEPS TO REPRODUCE To reproduce the issue on Turbo Vision: (A) - Using the attached 'tvdemo.exe' 1. Run the application on wineconsole. You should see a black-and-white background and escape sequences drawn on the console. 2. Press Alt+F, then D. You should see the command prompt, and the message "VT enabled" at the top, which demonstrates the issue in SetConsoleMode. (B) - Compiling from source code (requires up-to-date CMake and MSVC). 1. Insert the following code after line 63 in source/linux/win32con.cpp (https://github.com/magiblot/tvision/blob/dd4e410e60a34e08053399e346d4ed4e63…) ``` if (supportsVT) cerr << "VT enabled" << endl; else cerr << "VT not enabled: " << GetLastError() << endl; ``` 2. Follow the build instructions at https://github.com/magiblot/tvision/blob/dd4e410e60a34e08053399e346d4ed4e63… 3. Follow the steps in (A). EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR On Windows, support for VT sequences can be disabled by turning on the "Legacy Console" mode. If tvdemo.exe is ran in these conditions, the interface is displayed properly. If entering the command prompt by pressing Alt+F, then D, the message "VT not enabled: 87" is displayed (error 87 stands for ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER), which is what should be shown on wineconsole as well, since it clearly does not support VT sequences. If you do 'wineserver -k' and try to start anything with Wine nothing will happen until wineboot times out... As quickfix, start regedit (wait until wineboot timeout) and set service start type key for "WinMgmt" to manual start, e.g. "2" -> "3". Also a kernel driver (service) that is installed with WMI "smbios" fails to load but this currently harmless. If we look now in "c:\\windows\\system32\\WBEM" we see the whole stuff installed. But, (with Wine) I have noticed that in a significant number of places the text gets cut off, almost as if it is too long to fit. See attachment `app_output.png`. The app displays correctly under Windows. I do not have access to the source code of this application, and cannot comment on the quality of the code. It may be that the position and size of the bounding box is hard-coded, rather than using a GUI control layout manager. However, I believe I managed to track down the issue and have created a minimal example which demonstrates the problem (see `main.cpp`, please excuse the style, I am not very familiar with Windows C++ GUI programming). In the example, I call `CreateFontIndirectA` twice, first time with `lfHeight` of `LOGFONTA` set to `15` and the second time to `16`. The issue seems to arise only for small values of `lfHeight`. See the attachment `testcase_output.png` for how it looks like on Windows vs Wine. On Windows, both lines are indistinguishable, but on Wine, the second line (`lfHeight = 16`) is significantly longer than the first line (`lfHeight = 15`). It seems at first like the ligatures of the font are missing - which explains why the text `ffi` changes width but the text `aaa` does not. But I am not sure, as the `ffi` text also seems taller in the second line on Wine. I am using winehq-devel (7.3) on Ubuntu 20.04. The two halfs are generated from two separate dialog resources and thus events sent to one half should not influence the other. A user has reported a crash (https://bugs.openmpt.org/view.php?id=1553) that happens when hovering certain controls in the lower half of one of these views, and from the memory dump I can see that the hovering caused Wine to request tooltip information from the upper half of the view rather than the lower half. As the dialog item ID that was hovered didn't exist in the upper half of the view, the app crashed with a null-pointer access. Trying to reproduce this myself, I couldn't trigger the crash in Wine 7.0.0 (the user was on 7.0rc5-1) but nevertheless I found that the tooltips don't work in the lower half of the view, probably caused by the same issue that lead to the crash. Reproduction steps: 1) File -> New -> IT to create a new document 2) You should now see the General Tab. You should be able to see various custom tooltips when hovering items above the splitter. 3) Hovering items (e.g. the sliders) below the splitter should either lead to a crash or not show any tooltip. On Windows, you would be seeing tooltips on those sliders.
