My thought is, if Windows does something but does it poorly... and it's possible to do it better than Windows without losing compatibility with programs, why not do it? I have at least 7 programs that I use, and before this update, they worked wonderfully with Wine, even with fonts at 120dpi. Now everything looks terrible.
