Using the default location, the demo works fine for me with 5942da6c6ca66170d3546016328c4c3e0cf8f1b5 and I don't any error message either. I also tried the full game from Steam, with virtual desktop or not everything seems to be working fine. This problem still occurs on current Wine master (5942da6c) with minor differences, but the issue of not minimizing started with this change.
