This forum post; https://forums.eveonline.com/t/alpha-graphic-textures-visible/482369 Shows images of 'explosions' failing to use the alpha texture properly. Instead a black plane (one or more) is displayed. Then the user downgrades his wine version to 9.16 and explosions return to normal. Obviously this workaround is now broken, as any version less than 10.8 fails to launch the game. Something was changes between 9.16 and later versions that affect the alpha texture for this user. At present there is no clear way to test 9.16 on the client.
