This is the GOG-modified version; need to find my CDs to try the original, too... As a side-note, perhaps uninterestingly, the screen is black instead without 18339eb0f50 [2] which is related to bug 59109 [3], and I can see flashes of white in the menu here too. Before it turns all-white that is. There's one difference I can see in regular logging with the whiteness happening, though it's printed only after exiting the game via ESC: fixme:d3d_shader:glsl_blitter_upload_palette P8 texture loaded without a palette. There's also another issue before this, where the menu rendering isn't updated except for when moused over, which looks like painting/erasing away the black from covering the screen, or when moving the menu selection with arrow keys. Could not find a bug for that, so maybe that will happen after this. The game itself seems to work just fine in any case, though have only tried moving around the starting area a little bit so far. For example, building at 11.7 (or current master) and then going back to 11.5 and running the PlayOnline Viewer (the Final Fantasy XI Online launcher) will be less than successful: wine: Call from 7BF6D278 to unimplemented function winegstreamer.dll.winegstreamer_create_color_converter, aborting wine: Unimplemented function winegstreamer.dll.winegstreamer_create_color_converter called at address 7BF6D278 (thread 0178), starting debugger... I'm having trouble with getting the backtrace to print into my terminal, and the dialog doesn't want to show it either for current builds, so the attached one is from Wine 10.0. Bisecting it, I didn't quite catch the exact related commits needed for this, but perhaps that's not really necessary. I certainly can dig them up though, if it helps, and once I have soe more time for it. One important detail: these measurements were taken on a production-like/live system where around 50 streams were running concurrently. The timing data I sent is from one stream/client, but it was not measured in isolation. The system was under the normal multi-stream workload, with wineserver already under high load. Although I only included timing data from one stream, the other streams showed similar numbers. This is not TCP loopback. These are real RTSP-over-TCP camera streams over the network, using live555. The connections are typically to remote camera endpoints, mostly on port 554. I also checked the receive buffer sizes passed to recvfrom() in this live555 code path. The pattern is mostly small reads, for example: bs: 1452 bs: 1 bs: 1 bs: 1 ... The 1452-byte reads appear frequently, and there are also many 1-byte reads. This looks like the normal RTSP-over-TCP / interleaved stream parsing path. So the numbers are not from an isolated recv() microbenchmark. They are measured around the actual Winsock recvfrom() calls in the live555-based RTSP-over-TCP receive path, while many other similar streams are active at the same time.
