Shows fixme:msxml:domdoc_get_parseError calls immediately before the process enters 100% CPU infinite recursion loop. Process was killed after TrackChecker (https://trackchecker.net) a 64-bit Windows application (PE32+ x86-64, subsystem 6.00), worked correctly under Wine Staging 11.6 but hangs at 100% CPU with no window since Wine 11.7. The process never terminates on its own and must be killed. Regression introduced: Wine 11.7 ("Beginnings of MSXML reimplementation without libxml2") Last working version: Wine Staging 11.6 Prefix setup: WINEARCH=win64 wineboot winetricks vcrun2013 winetricks oleaut32 winetricks comctl32 Windows version in prefix: 6.1 (Win 7), confirmed via: wine reg query "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v CurrentVersion Note: these components may not be necessary to trigger the bug. This pattern (mprotect on incrementing addresses) is Wine's guard page expansion firing continuously — definitive infinite recursion consuming the entire stack. /proc/<pid>/wchan = 0 — the process is spinning entirely in userspace, never blocking. The application uses CoCreateInstance on CLSID {f6d90f11-9c73-11d3-b32e-00c04f990bb4} (DOMDocument30 / msxml3) to parse its data.xml configuration file at startup. The COM class is correctly registered in the prefix. Attempting to use native msxml3 (both via winetricks and by manually copying a genuine 64-bit msxml3.dll from a Windows 10 installation) did not resolve the issue: winetricks msxml3 installs only a 32-bit DLL which cannot load in a 64-bit process, and the Windows 10 native 64-bit DLL fails to load in Wine due to unresolved dependencies. A related regression (PLSQL Developer failing to start on Wine 11.7, also msxml3-related) was fixed in Wine 11.8, but TrackChecker's code path is not covered by that fix and remains broken in Wine 11.9. Although not a problem here, I suspect other hard-coded comparisions need to be relaxed as well: line 1311. When you fix it, make sure the name offset passed to 'monitor_load' and 'monitor_load_by_port' is still correct because it's used to match registry sub-keys ('Local Port' etc.). With that part fixed, the installer completes successfully. Attached is the output. I am running Linux Mint 22.3 and the game is the original early 2000s CD-ROM versions. Further more, I did use Winetricks to integrate d3dx9, directplay,and l3codecx so as to accommodate for other games in the prefix. I tried the older expansion Warchiefs and that crashed as well. This causes Issues with .NET/WPF applications that use the Windows 7+ taskbar progress API. Some appplications (e.g. WPF apps using TaskbarItemInfo) deadlock or behave incorrectly when the COM call chain around these methods interacts with the UI thread. Wine already implements plattform-specific desktop integration in several places: - macOS: Full Cocoa integration (NSStatusBar, NSDockTile) in winemac.drv - X11: EWMH hints including _NET_WM_STATE_DEMANDS_ATTENTION in winex11.drv - Wayland: xdg-toplevel-icon-v1 protocol in winewayland.drv - DBus: Production clients for BlueZ and UDisks in winebth.sys and mountmgr.sys A natural Extension would be implementing taskbar progress via the com.canonical.Unity.LauncherEntry DBus interface, wich is supported by KDE Plasma, GNOME, and other Linux desktop environments. Firefox and LibreOffice already use this interface for native taskbar progress. Proposed mapping: TBPF_NOPROGRESS -> progress-visible: false TBPF_NORMAL -> progress-visible: true, progress: value TBPF_INDETERMINATE -> progress-visible: true, progress: 0.0 TBPF_ERROR -> urgent: true TBPF_PAUSED -> progress-visible: true (no direct equivalent) The implementation would follow the existing DBus pattern from mountmgr.sys/dbus.c (dlopen/dlsym, graceful degradation when libdbus-1 is unavailable). I'd be willing to work on a Linux/DBus patch if there's interest. Looking for feedback on: 1. Is this the right component (explorerframe) or should this be handled in the platform drivers (winex11.drv, winewayland.drv)? 2. How should the .desktop file association be resolved? (DBus needs an application:// URI) 3. Any concerns about adding a libdbus-1 dependency to explorerframe? I'm currently working on getting KNX ETS 6.4 (a .NET/WPF application) running under Wine and ran into several issues along teh way, this being one of them. The application uses TaskbarItemInfo for progress display wich leads to Problems in the COM/UI thread interaction. ETS 6.4 does run on Linux now, but only trough launch scripts, .dll patches, registry workarounds, and a heavily patched Wine prefix (winetricks dotnet48 + manual fixes) - it would be great to reduce those workarounds over time. Attached is the terminal window log showing all the fixme errors from Wine. The current working directory was my personal directory under drive_c/users, which is where I copied the Family Tree Maker install program FTM2017.EXE. The large gaps of blank lines in the log were me adding carriage returns in the terminal to separate different windows in the InstallShield wizard.
