Summary: ISS application crashes on db connection
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.2.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tuharsky(a)misbb.sk
We have an ISS application here that runs our whole office (150 computers). We
move part of them to linux, our goal is 50%.
Application is based on VFP7 and connects to Oracle DB using ODBC driver.
In our first approach, one company helped us to run the ISS and it worked, with
some glitches, on Linux too (wine 200504, Oracle client 10, myODBC 2.5).
Now we need to move to the ultimate version of Wine because ISS app is moving to
VFP9. And even the old version of app, that is still based on VFP7, dosen't
start (see screenshot) under our fresh Wine.
Before, I considered it only a DB connection error and managed to solve the ODBC
and Oracle Client.
But I'm not sure now, if the bug isn't straight in Wine. We are still trying to
solve it somehow, with no success so far.
I have asked the vendor of ISS for details about bug. For now, i'm sending the
pictures and logs.

It's not that clear, that it should connect to unix odbc only.
There's for example no free Oracle ODBC driver for Linux available. Oracle
Client for Windows however works nice with wine. Application can depend on
odbc32.dll however, so there must be one. How to get it?
Maybe myODBC could solve it, if it worked with current version of Wine (see bug
3963)

It was probably functional with WINE 200503 and partially with 200504.
Now it dosen't work either. It claims, that Setup must be run again to install
Microsoft ODBC. Runnung setup again does nothing new however.
ODBC is crucial for us to run VFP app dependent on Oracle client @ wine.
