If you change the options so that the car chase (1st) test doesnt ever run, the app error doesnt pop up when it goes to run the dragothic (2nd) test , but if you leave the car chase enabled, and disable dragothic, then the app error appears before the lobby (3rd) test.. Seems to be something about switching modes that wine doesnt like. When running with native, it starts up within 10 seconds. I just tested it with an mp3, and the same thing happens. The sound plays for a split second, and then VLC dies into the debugger.
