No wait. I get the same error under Win95. Could it be that the app just doesn't
work without a printer installed?

Confirmed. I submitted a patch to fix the garbage in the message box a few hours
ago (http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-patches/2005/07/0558.html).

I have the bde252.zip (16 bit borland database engine) installed.
http://bdn.borland.com/homepages/dsp/ftp/d10free/bde252.zip
That should get it to the point where is that it tries access the printer page
width and length and exits with this dialog box.

Tried running your app - it exists immediatly after giving me a message box
telling "Exception EDatabaseError in module testquickrpt.exe (... some garbage
...) at somesegment:0cae" both in Wine and Win95... (the garbage resulting from
a missing NUL terminator (investigating this) does not appear in Windows but
that's probably not the bug you mean...)

Some more info: app fails on my box: FC3 kernel 2.6.12-1.1372_FC3 glibc 2.3.5
app works on someone's other box: Gentoo kernel 2.6.12 glibc 2.3.5
Both with yesterdays (19 july) cvs.
Apparently it also seems to run on Julliards box.
Would be great if some more people could test this, and post their comments
here;it'll only cost you two minutes.
download http://www.neatimage.net/files/NeatSetup.exe
then run ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Neat\ Image/NeatImage.exe
Report if the program starts up on your box(yes or no) and plz provide distro ,
kernel (uname -r) and glibc version.

Shouldn't the priority of this bug be raised?
It makes the game almost unplayable and it's a regression as it has been working
in 2004 already and this bug is open for more than half a year now.
Also, what's the role of the
fixme:bitblt:X11DRV_BitBlt potential optimization - client-side DIB copy
in this case? I suppose it's independent of the color bug but may be a chance to
speed up the game a lot? (As I wrote in my last comment, the game works fine
when it isn't doing anything, but the adventure map causes floods of this debug
message and the game gets very very slow)
