WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,+ole,+storage,warn+all
Retried with warn+all. It seems to boil down to:
warn:ntdll:NtCreateFile L"\\??\\C:" not found (c0000034)
warn:file:CreateFileW Unable to create file L"\\\\.\\C:" (status c0000034)
Details, see attachment (33 lines).

in the current CVS, changing EM_GETLINECOUNT return value to 0 (which BTW is
never returned by original RichEdit) does not help.

Summary: Deadlock when opening file in Powerpoint 2000 using
File-Open-dialog
Product: Wine
Version: 20050628
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: t.serries(a)lvm.de
When trying to open a Powerpoint document using the file-open-dialog (in
Powerpoint2000 SR-1) wine is running into a deadlock:
...
err:syslevel:_CheckNotSysLevel Holding lock 0x2a3a92e0 level 3
err:syslevel:_EnterSysLevel (0x41e94c40, level 2): Holding 0x2a3a92e0, level 3.
Expect deadlock!
err:syslevel:_EnterSysLevel (0x41e94c40, level 2): Holding 0x2a3a92e0, level 3.
Expect deadlock!
...
Earlier wine-versions are producing similar messages but are worse: They run
into the deadlock prior to clicking on the open-button (tested with 20040719,
20041019 and 20050524).
As there are no problems opening documents in Word and Excel I supposed a
problem with the preview of the file-open-dialog in Powerpoint. But in
wine-20050628 the preview is working fine.
Opening Powerpoint documents by submitting the filename by command line
parameter is also working fine (for all wine versions).

first of all you could try to run with some native dlls. if the app is freeware
you could make it available somewhere so we can download it , and give it a try.
Furthermore is see you used crossover, maybe you could just try cvs wine, see if
it gets any better. Regards

I don't see anything interesting there, especially there is no output around
the time the saving fails.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES=...
Well, using the Windows XP dlls unfortunually crashes wine (see attachment) :-(
But anyhow thanks for the ideas.

Does this help:
WINEDLLOVERRIDE="ole32,oleaut32,rpcrt4=n" wine ...
?
If no, then maybe try capturing output from this:
WINEDEBUG="+ole,+typelib,+loaddll,+file" wine ...

> Any idea which debug channel might be of help?
I would try generating "+loaddll,+ole" traces, but the only workaround I will be
able to think of is to set OLE32, OLEAUT32 and maybe RPCRT4 dlls from builtin to
natives:
WINEDLLOVERRIDE="ole32,oleaut32,rpcrt4=n" wine ...
Not always all the three dlls need to be overrided - experiment on your own. :-)

I think that this problem may be affecting TextPad 4.7.3, I'm not sure though.
See the entry in the App DB.
