Heap corruption is particularly bad because it causes the app to crash at random points in the code (it seems to occurr when allocated memory is freed). Additionally lots of work has gone into the gl and d3d interfaces (which drive gl) and no one has commented on this for as long as I can remember. I also ran ATI demos at wineconf with no problems of both opengl and d3d games so I strongly suspect this is resolved in more recent drivers.
