Using winecfg and disabling pixel shaders brings performance back up to normal
levels. (obviously with a large sacrafice) While running through the video
stress test, the average framerate went from 20 (with pixel shaders enabled) to
80 (without) but obviously many of the render-to-texture effects were missing
(in fact all of them)
The framerate took a huge hit when it passed by the "predator" the model that's
given the water texture that makes it shimmer. (The model only showed white however)
And no steam is not updating anything. Note CS 1.6 works fine, zero hiccups in
framerate or anything, but with OpenGL as the renderer(I will try d3d to see
what happens).
As for drivers, my native games work beautifully (ut2004, nexuiz (to test pixel
shader support), doom3, quake4-demo)

Invalid. The installer legitimately halts installation because the .NET
Framework 2.0 is not installed. The installer starts up and copies all the
files correctly if I fake the .NET Framework installation, but then fails when
it tries to load msvcr80.dll. We'll have to wait till we have SxS assembly
support before this works.

Don't see anything like that here. Works with the same speed it used to before.
Please make sure steam is not updating any games. And that your drivers setup
properly.

Summary: Counter Strike Source Extremely Slow
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.22.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Ademan555(a)gmail.com
This is a REGRESSION. Running Counter Strike Source with "-dxlevel 70" results
in extremely slow framerates. No sound is enabled at this point. This was
never a problem in 0.9.20. Other direct X levels refuse to work at all
(separate bug).

My main box has similar specs to yours.
1.9 Ghz AMD Barton 2600+
1.3 GB RAM
Radeon 9200 128 MB w/ latest Mesa R200
And it runs fine. Maybe it's a sound problem? Try all sound drivers -- ALSA and
OSS, emulated and full -- in winecfg too.
Although unaccelerated gdi is a bit slow, it really is completely playable on my
system without your described slowdowns.
But my ubuntu "test box" at 700 MHz kicks butt with the accelerated opengl
backend (Nvidia GF 2...)
Accelerated opengl backend is coming for ATI... maybe... someday..

Ok, I'll try regression testing. Another thing to learn. :)
Will post results.
Well, I experienced this "bug" on a P4 1.8GHz with 512MB SDRAM, and Radeon
9200SE. That is plenty powerful for starcraft, I would say.
Here is what I think might help... I would like to be able to play Starcraft. :)
glxinfo:
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R200 20060602 AGP 8x TCL
lspci:
0000:01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
(Secondary) (rev 01)
If any more info is needed, just ask.
