After installing fontforge I now have new fonts in the wine/fonts.
I did not see any indication in the output of ./configure that it was missing
fontforge.
I saw a new thread in users with the same problem with fonts after upgrading to 9.9

Ah, yes, thank you very much. Glibc appears to be the problem (I am using
2.3.4). I've been doing live upgrades with slackpkg so I never upgraded glibc.

This works on my system, which is Slackware 10.2.
bash-3.00$ cat /etc/slackware-version
Slackware 10.2.0
bash-3.00$ grep RTF_UP /usr/include/net/route.h
#define RTF_UP 0x0001 /* Route usable. */
Are you missing /usr/include/net/route.h? It's in glibc-2.3.5-i486-5 for me.
bash-3.00$ grep route.h /var/log/packages/*
/var/log/packages/glibc-2.3.5-i486-5:usr/include/net/route.h

After searching the kernel tree for the "can't create port" message, I tried
making wine use ALSA drivers, and the message didn't appear.

Could you please add a test case to dlls/user/tests/edit.c showing the incorrect
behaviour, and send it to wine-patches(a)winehq.org?
thanks,

I believe this particular bug has been fixed with the recent move to WineD3D
(and my testing as of CVS 3/5/06). Granted, there are plenty of other bugs
affecting Civ4, but this one seems to be gone.
The attached patch may be fine, but they'd probably need a smaller test case
than Civ4 or NFSU to make sure those values return correctly for the format.

In my cvs/wine/documentation/PACKAGEING I only see a freetype and fontcomfig
requirement.
I just saw a bug was fixed in fontconfig related to wine's usage. I just loaded
and compiled the cvs for fontconfig. I am not sure if I can test without
building it into an rpm.
To find what wine required I just ran ./configure and looked for no's and add
then found the RPM to add that.
