I am getting the same error running Project64. I'm not going to bother making a
trace log of it, since it produces nearly the exact same errors everybody else
seems to be getting, but everything else works fine.
Wine version: 0.9.15
Kernel: 2.6.16-gentoo-r9
Sound driver: ALSA
Sound card: Soundblaster Live! 24-bit

Confirming that adding d3d8.dll to the FakeDllsSection fixes the installation.
I will send a patch adding it to tools/wine.inf tonight.

After adding this registry key:
HKLM\SOFTARE\Classes\WScript.Shell\CLSID (default value set to any GUID)
the install continued and finished with success. I'm guessing that the WSH
installer should be setting this key, but isn't. Will look into it.

I took a look at this and it is true that staredit uses 100%. It is perfectly
stable though. I ran a trace and see a lot of X11DRV_DIB_Lock, Coerce, and
Unlock. I think massive DIB surface converting is the problem. It's not a ddraw
app. So I thought about it and shrunk the window from 1280x1024 to about
300x200. It's much more responsive now. Still uses 100% of cpu though. I think
this issue is really dependent on the DIB engine.

When running dotnetfx.exe directly downloaded from msdn, the install bails out
pretty early, complaining that "Extracting file failed." Looking through a
+file,+relay shows nothing that would warrant the error, but it's worth looking
into. I was able to run install.exe from the temporary directory it was
extracted to though, and I get the same error. From information in the link,
the installer is trying to stop the Windows Installer service *if* it's already
running, to not conflict with the install. I'm thinking we should see what
return values the installer is expecting from advapi32, seeing as how we don't
run as a service, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Not sure if a recent patch was applied or something, but it seems to work
after having run wineprefixcreate. It still complains about the undocumented
EditWndProc_common message 0x410, and I get two ignored flags warnings:
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000400
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00004000
..but the programs seem to start fine from the menu now.
