Radeon 8550, 9000, 9550, etc users have not reported these problems. So maybe its specific to the Radeon Xxxx series cards, however I could be completely wrong. You could confirm by buying a $30 ATI 9550 or higher which is known to work fine, if your desperate to get the game running. In the meantime you could try disabling all the shader effects in config.wtf prior to running the game to see if that works. I tried the standalone version but it still gave me the exact same error. Also, iTunes needs version 7.0.3 or later of quicktime anyways.
