If this isn't too hard, let's address it for 1.0.

Patch is in git, and the instant crash is gone. The next bug the app runs into
is the blank window problem. That's already covered in the bug about
Switchball, so i'll close this one.

Update: I'm currently working on this bug :), or, to be exact, the igowin
problem (Sacrifice may or may not be a separate bug). I figured out that it's
palette-related (GetSystemPaletteEntries function is causing problems because
it doesn't behave on Wine as it does on Windows) and at this point I've a very
raw and hacky fix to X11DRV_GetSystemPaletteEntries that fixes transparency
problem. I'm very new to wine hacking so it probably will take some time to get
it into acceptable form, plus I need to further research differences in
behavior of this function on various windows versions, but I hope I'll be able
to submit a conformance test and a patch soon enough.

I just noticed you were using 0.9.36... That would be interesting to see if it
was fixed in 0.9.45 and broken again in 46 and/or 47...

This has been happening to me a lot too since I started playing the game a few
months ago which was annoying, since I usually had to get a GM to move the
characters in order to play them again, but not fatal. However since the new
WoW patch last week, 2.2.3, the game has been completely broken for me and this
hanging has become a regular feature. In trying to fix it I wiped all my
addons, reinstalled WoW and upgraded Wine to version 9.46. The end result was
that NONE of my characters worked at all anymore, not even new ones on new
realms. However, after reading this thread here I tried running WoW with the
-opengl option and things seem to working now, though I still have more testing
to do and I haven't reinstalled the addons yet. It looks like either the new
WoW patch or the latest Wine patch has broken D3D functionality for me.

Note that setting using FBO for OffScreenRendering fixes this bug (doesn't
crash and runs happily).

The poster after you (Comments 9 and 10) is having the same problem with an
nVidia card, so video driver may be ruled out. Did it work for you in 0.9.45,
as it did for him? If so, I wonder if it's regression test time...
