It's definitely not the ATI driver: I've just replicated this on a (virtually)
identically configured machine which uses the intel i810 driver. The machine is
also running Ubuntu Edgy + Wine 0.9.31, and it gives exactly the same error. The
message is basically the same, beginning with:
wine: Unhandled exception 0xe06d7363 at address 0x7b840580 (thread 009)
[I shan't quote it all, for brevity unless it would be useful]
Again, this machine runs MSOffice97 and seamonkey just fine.
As for a regression test, I'm very happy to try, but I shall need some pointers
on how to do this.

Nigel, since it looks like this might be a heap corruption
bug, we probably want to try this under valgrind before
concluding that things are ok. The wild memory problem
might be lurking even if it's kind of working for you.

Sure can: will do.
-Sigh- Since I started helping out here I really feel like I need a faster
machine. (it's 1.1GHz)
Oh well, a good excuse to go shopping I suppose =)

Summary: No sound with OSS driver in C&C3
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.31.
Platform: PC
URL: ftp://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/demos/Commandand3/CnC3De
mo.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: alex(a)thehandofagony.com
When using Wine's OSS sound driver, there is no sound at all while playing
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. At the console there is a messagee about
hardware acceleration being unavailable, and that the DirectSound HEL mode
will be used. My soundcard _does_ have hardware acceleration, and it works
fine with all other Wine applications. If I set hardware acceleration to
emulation, there is still no sound.
If I use the ALSA driver and set the hardware acceleration, however, I can
hear sound.

The game runs fine if you set the Windows version to XP, and follow the
instructions in the AppDB. But when the Windows version is 2000, this bug is
what you get.

Thanks, that was much better than applying the patch. The game does run; just
follow the instructions in the HOWTO. I cannot get sound to work, though; do
you? Please tell me, so that I can file a bug report if appropriate.
