But, when I ran the verbose configure, I only saw a couple of missing libraries, none of which seemed likely to be having this effect (libcapi20-dev, libsane-dev, libgphoto-dev, libldap-dev). I went ahead and installed them anyway, in case I was mistaken, and cleaned/retested. The results are unfortunately still the same. :\ Here's a diff I did of the two verbose configures.
