How do you have your audio configured? Could you try with oss or none configured
(mine was unconfigured and video worked).

confirmed just because it doesn't work for your _SPECIAL_ configuration.

I have both versions compiled in different directories...do I now have to
recompile both for git or can I use the two versions?

Summary: lack of GLX causes wine to crash
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.41.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-opengl
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: aezekowitz(a)gmail.com
whenever I try to run a particular program under wine (in this case the program
is microsoft pinball arcade, and glx is not available on the display, as is the
case with nvidia graphics cards in 8bpp mode, wine will outright crash, throwing
several errors to the screen. Below is an example of the errors I get:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":2.0".
err:wgl:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo couldn't initialize OpenGL, expect problems
err:d3d:InitAdapters Failed to create a fake opengl context to find fbconfigs
formats
err:wine_d3d:WineDirect3DCreate Failed to initialize direct3d adapters
I am running 8bpp mode because the game in question absolutely will not work in
anything else but true 8bpp mode (that is to say, wine STILL can't translate
8bpp graphics to "normal" 24 bpp displays). I seem to recall from a recent test
that I did that wine version 0.9.38 did not crash.

Would you care to comment why you closed this bug without giving any additional
information?
I'm reopening it. Since you didn't deny seeing the 100% CPU usage, we have to
assume that Wine has a bug or is abusing the scheduler in a way that works in
some systems, but not in others. Since this works in low-end Windows computers,
I don't think you want to argue that this behavior is incorrect. My computer is
definitely not low-end and the game itself runs perfectly. The Linux version of
the AGS interpreter doesn't suffer this probles; unfortunately it cannot be used
to run games that rely on external DLLs or video codecs.
If I can supply for information to track the high CPU usage, let me know and
I'll be glad to help. I'm afraid that AGS source code is not available, but I
might be able to generate a simpler "game" that just contains the basic
load/save screen and not much else, if that would help.
By the way, your kernel is clearly not from pristine kernel.org sources and you
didn't specify what distribution it comes from or what patches it includes. Not
that it matters, unless Wine's policy is to rely on scheduler modifications that
upstream kernel doesn't want to merge.
