I tried installing it to my working Office 2003 wine installation. The installer ran fine, ending with a message that installation was complete. However, when I tried to open a docx file in Word 2003, it aborted with the message "There was an error opening the file." I've attached the console output. The troubleshooting is starting the game, or charging a map (mission, campaign, etc.) It requires arround 10min to have the first game menu... And it requires other 10minutes if you want to play. The game is unplayble since it requires 20minutes to start gaming. But the game itself even with highest options work very well. The problem is the same with older wine versions. Uninitialised value was created by a stack allocation at MyTrackMouseLeave (in app) Looking at git blame user32/input.c, I see line 1043 is the if: hover_time = ptme->dwHoverTime; if (hover_time == HOVER_DEFAULT || hover_time == 0 || !(ptme->dwHoverTime&TME_HOVER)) Squinting at that a bit, it get the feeling the bitmask check is a typo; shouldn't that be dwFlags, not dwHoverTime? Also, if TME_HOVER is not set, we probably shouldn't be looking at dwHoverTime, right? FWIW, that bitmask check was added by http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-October/031794.html Incidentally, while playing around, I noticed that the test crashes if you get too many events. (Perhaps cygwin apps should work outside wineconsole; that would be a separate bug report.) However, cygwin's gcc doesn't work unless you replace certain cygwin symlinks with unix ones, e.g. $ cd .wine/drive_c/cygwin/usr/i686-pc-cygwin/bin $ for a in *; do ln -sf ../../../bin/$a; done Likewise, /bin/vi doesn't work, as it's a symlink to vim.exe. This feature is very important,since there are absolutely no alternatives to these applications on linux (if you study their key features you'll see there arent any on windows too at the moment,especially Sai). The applications work almost perfectly on wine,but that lack of this feature stops people from taking advantage of that. Another application is Open Canvas... So every device connected to a SCSI Port ID larger then 2 is not visible to applications. At least on my machine I see this numbering in the HKLM/Hardware/DEVICEMAP/Scsi/ tree. "Scsi Port x" where x=0,1,2,4,8,..... I tried to run "Easy CD-CA Extractor" and my DVD-Drive is connected to controller id 4 (which should be 3 in ASPI aspects). Copying the whole tree from "Scsi Target 4" to "Scsi Target 3" worked. The developer of "Easy CD-DA Extractor" told me that ASPI requires a 0,1,2,3,4,5,... numbering. Could be used, but tedious. I'd guess it might be an interesting program for some users, quite a rare type of program, and useful. Since it runs OK, except UI I wondered if you might be able to investigate? I don't know which part of wine might be responsible, but I'd guess one of the accelerated graphics libraries. (Apologies for my lack of detailed knowledge about Windows.) In some cases, moving a window whose contents are updated by DirectX calls causes trash/garbage to appear when the window is drawn in its new position, My theory is that WINE remembers the window contents at the moment the user begins dragging the title bar, and simply copies that to the new window position. If the program continues to update the DirectX buffer while the user is moving the window frame, WINE puts the old/stale buffer contents in the moved window. This happens in both normal and virtual desktop modes. For applications like video players, this effect may not be very noticeable if the player redraws the whole window every frame. But for applications which don't do that, the effect can be quite ugly. One program I have found which shows this problem is WinUAE. There is no in-game way of changing this resolution either. I have found that I can change the games resolution by alt-tab out of the game and set the desired resolution in nvidia x server configuration tool and then alt-tab back into the game. I use Kubuntu (Kde) and this way of fixing the problem has been reported by another user not to work with his gnome desktop. We are both at version 7.10 of (K)Ubuntu. Note: Nexus works flawlessly with version 0.9.40 -- it has no bugs that Nexus itself doesn't when running under Windows, and, in fact, is often more stable than on Windows. Further Picasa seems to need it too and their special Wine branch supports video overlay using Xv but in a hacky way. It is relatively easy to add a software implementation to DirectDraw/WineD3D but it would be slow. For best performance and less reinventing the wheel we need to implement overlay using Xv. The most tricky part would be on how to access Xv from within wined3d. I ran into this in the context of bug 5358 (Microsoft Dynamics GP Trial). That app comes with dotnetfx.exe, which fails to install. The problem is a heap corruption or something in our COM implementation, as it fails slightly faster and cleaner with WINEDEBUG=warn+heap, and succeeds with native dcom98. The problem can be reproduced with the .net 1.1 installer downloadable from Microsoft. This has the same md5 signature as the one on the cdrom. Oddly, when I first hit this it took ten seconds, the second time it took half an hour, no idea why the speed difference. I think it might be WINEDEBUG=warn+heap makes it run slow, that's another sign of an uninitialized variable. Here's the script I used to demonstrate the bug. It works *almost* perfectly but because of this bug it isn't actually usable: most of its WAV files do not work and this makes the program useless! As I have said FL Studio make use of WAV files. Some WAV files are in standard PCM uncompressed audio format and they plays fine. Others use non-standard WAV format and fails to play at all. Because of that a lot of effects and sounds cannot be used. If I run the program with WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,warn+all I get the following output when I try to play a "non-standard" WAV file: (see attachment). When I play standard PCM-encoded WAV file there is no such output. I think this output gives some useful clues but unfortunately I have almost no knowledge about Widnows sound API so I cannot fix this myself. Feel free to ask any additional questions. The program has a demo and it is almost fully functional (see the URL field). How to reproduce (instruction by Travis Forghani, with minor changes and comments for better readability): 1) Click on "Packs" to expand it. Then click on "Basses" to expand it. Next, click on the "BASS_EfEm_C2"; when you click on the BASS_EfEm_C2 effect, the sound that is supposed to be created is created. This works because "BASS_EfEm_C2" is standard PCM encoded WAV file. 2) Click on "RealDrumkits" to expand it. Next, click on "RD_Crash". When you click on the "RD_Crash" effect, the sound that is supposed to be created is not created and there is no output via the speakers. This doesn't work because "RD_Crash" is non-standard WAV. However, when upgrading to 0.9.51, iTunes 7.3 will no longer function. A fresh installation of Wine 0.9.51 was installed on my machine, and then itunes 7.3 installed. iTunes 7.3 still would not run. Reverting back to 0.9.50 would not solve the problem either. I was only able to solve the problem by reverting to 0.9.50 AND purging my .wine folder. In the case where there is no WHERE clause, this is the correct output, but if there is a WHERE clause, we still perform the Cartesian product and then filter on the WHERE clause. Though it's uncommon, there are a few installers (Visual Studio, Nero Express 7) that join tables with thousands of rows. For example, say we have tables A, B, and C s.t. colA colB colC ----- ----- ----- 1 1 1 2 2 2 ... ... ... 1000 1000 1000 and we have the query SELECT * FROM A, B, C WHERE `colA`=1 AND `colB`=1 AND `colC`=1 then the current implementation will create a new table with those columns containing 1000*1000*1000=1 billion rows. Then we check each of the 1 billion rows for any matches. There are several algorithms for optimizing joins: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Join_(SQL)#Join_algorithms The solution I'll be working on is the merge join. This solution parses the WHERE clause, starting with the two tables that the columns of the clause belong to (colA -> A, colB -> B, etc) and joins those together, making sure to eliminate rows based on the WHERE clause. Then the next table in the clause is merged into the previously created table, eliminating rows. This continues until there are no tables left. One optimization of this solution is to start with parts of the WHERE clause that compare against literals. For example, the query: SELECT * FROM A, B, C WHERE `colA` = `colB` AND `colB` = 1 AND `colC` = 1 We'd start with "`colB` = 1" since the comparison is against a literal. We perform 1000 comparisons on the rows of table B (count = 1000). The resulting table is: colB ---- 1 then we do the same for table C (count = 1000), and the merged table is: colB colC ---- ---- 1 1 next we merge this table with table A: colA colB colC ---- ---- ---- 1 1 1 2 1 1 ... ... ... 1000 1 1 and we search through this table for the condition `colA` = `colB` (count = 1000). So we've reduced billions of comparisons to 3000. Here's one problem where it happens: In the Celestia installer, on the initial page, it asks you to accept the GPL license. By default, the radio button has "do not accept" selected. On Windows, I can press "alt + a" to select the "accept" radio button.
