Summary: Starting a wine app causes Xorg to reprobe video outputs
(which is visually distracting for some types of
displays)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.54.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vanvugt(a)gmail.com
Reproduced in 0.9.54 but this has been a problem for me for a very long time.
OS is Ubuntu 7.10 i386
Hardware is an IBM ThinkPad T60 (intel graphics driver)
Starting virtually any wine app causes Xorg to reprobe it's outputs (proof is
in /var/log/Xorg.0.log), which on my laptop is the same as running "xrandr".
This results in the VGA signal being interrupted and my (main) external display
flashing uncontrollably.
This only happens in wine apps, and with the xrandr command (which is meant to
do it).

Steve,
Can you please upgrade to wine-0.9.55, see http://winehq.org/download and test
this again? The demo works fine.

It appears that OLE support in riched20 broke the patch. Work continues.

Messages while application starting
Starting with version 0.9.53 Magic Maps' main window fails to display
correctly, icons and menus keep working as before. The main window uses OpenGL.
Only a small rectangle in the top left corner is displayed, the rest of the
window shows garbage and remainders of redraw events. In case it's related to
this bug I attached the output of the application being started from a
terminal.

The patch seems to work well. But there is a minor issue with the format of the
title. It is better to use standard $CUSTOM_TEXT - $PROGRAM_NAME pattern for
the title. For example:
Photoshop - Wine desktop
Default - Wine desktop
...an so on. In fact this is the standard used by almost all applications
(including Firefox, Konqueror, Kontact, kpdf, Konsole, kwrite and many others)
so it is good idea to obey it. And this standard is very convenient when
switching between applications.
So you need to use " - " (without quotes) as a separator, place "Wine desktop"
after this separator, and place desktop name at the leftmost side of the title.
When you write final version of the patch, please send it to wine-patches.
Thanks.

Resolving FIXED. A patch went in to Git today for this function (Should be in
Wine 0.9.56 when it comes out). Please open another bug if Supreme Commander
still has other problems.

I tried the ddraw hack mentioned in bug 2082, but it didn't appear to change
anything.
