Dan, are you sure that worked at some point? Using:
today's git
wine firefox - 2.0.0.13
wine openoffice (writer) - 2.3.1
linux firefox - 2.0.0.13
linux openoffice (writer) - 2.2.0
I can copy/paste:
linux firefox -> wine firefox (works fine)
linux firefox -> wine openoffice (fails)
linux firefox -> wine notepad (works fine)
wine firefox -> linux firefox (works fine)
wine firefox -> wine openoffice (fails)
wine firefox -> wine notepad (works fine)
wine firefox -> linux openoffice (fails, bug 5061)
wine openoffice -> linux firefox (works fine)
wine openoffice -> wine firefox (works fine)
wine openoffice -> wine notepad (works fine)
wine openoffice -> linux openoffice (fails...looks similar to 5061)

Still present in today's git. Seems Alexandre's fix for bug 11844 didn't fix
this.

There is any advance in this bug?? It affects several versions of Age of
empires, and also other games. It would be nice to fix it for Wine 1.0.

Found it. http://www.edwinxp.com/Files/EDWinXP150.zip
With current wine, the dcom98 workaround doesn't work anymore;
both 150 and 161 just beep and don't start up, regardless
of whether dcom98 is installed.

Ok im having the exact same problem, where it freezes etc, but the thing is i
am not as good at computing as you guys and i don't understand this "wine"
thing etc. So if you could please help me to install wine 0.9.17 or replace
something in 0.9.45 or whatever im supposed to do that would be really helpful.
Also i don't know how to download wine or open it or get into all that
writing... I might find it if its in my computer/Local Disk (C:)/Program
files/Warcraft III but other than that i don't know :s. so could some1 please
explain what i should do in detail and in newb friendly so i can play warcraft
3 battle.net again.
Thank you in advance.
Respect,
(*$malli$*)

I don't know if 1.50 is available; I can't find my copy.
(For the record, 1.61 is
EDWinXP161.zip 118798257 sha1sum 29c39fc4c932cb72c8b5eb6f120c7a576f1fd2a9
1.61 seems to want mfc40 during install.
It also says
err:module:import_dll Library ntvdm.exe (which is needed by
L"C:\\EDWinXP\\haspvdd.DLL") not found
and it hangs on startup after beeping,
which makes me think it might be hard to get 1.61 running...)

Now using 0.9.57 and still no problem. Are you using "allow window manager to
control the windows"? (I am) Are you using the updated openGL renderer from
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/ ? (get the one for Deus Ex instead
of Unreal Tournament of course) The one I use is attached to this bugreport.
I'm not using xgl or compiz or anything like that. nVidia geforce 7900 card.

There is no reply in an year, most likely the offending patch should be
reverted.
