After installing Black & White 2, patch v.1.1 and 1.2 and copying d3dx9_25.dll
to system32 I get the same error as Ryan.
I use nvidia graphic driver and wine 0.9.58
Can't even get to the menu, can just see the inital B&W 2 Splashscreen, then it
will crash.

I am also getting this error:
fixme:mpeg3:MPEG3_StreamSize misses the block header overhead
in Goldwave audio editor (ver 5.23, see goldwave.com ) when attempting to load
mp3 files. Once loaded (assuming that it loads completely, which does not
always occur -- try loading very large >100 Meg mp3's), then the data is
corrupt and will have various sections of square wave ( max +/- ) distortions.

Well, well, well, at last the game started!
The error i wrote about before was due to SecuROM protection (it was easy to
gather this information over the net) and the game was using the included
cms32_nt.dll because the emulated windows was winXP. I just tried setting wine
to emulate win98, HoD used a different library for protection (cms32_95.dll)
and now the game starts!
Yeahhhhhh, thank you all!

Ok, i've now installed HoD via a CD image, the image is still mounted and the
old error with midimap is now fixed. Thank you!
But still the game doesn't start and wine tells me:
fixme:mountmgr:harddisk_ioctl unsupported ioctl 2d4800
fixme:mountmgr:harddisk_ioctl unsupported ioctl 2d4800
... (always the same)
What does this message mean?
Does anyone know?

If that's a DOS app then have a look at the bug 9178.

Well, when I try to run the demo, the following happens:
> wine WC3DEMO.EXE
Warning: unprotecting memory to allow real-mode calls.
NULL pointer accesses will no longer be caught.
...and then absolutely nothing, it just stays like that until I kill it with
Ctrl+C; no game appears and there are no further outputs to the command line.

Sure, once you describe what the problem is.
