in wine 1.0 it is still not working...
someone should change the priority of the bug to "Major"
many people could migrate to linux if the would have a fully working winamp
version (includes video,visualization)
thx a lot

I'm not implying that this is a proper fix either, but I don't see it mentioned
here in the bug and I feel like its related to the bug.
BennyP had created an updated fix to an older 3dmark patch
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=10811) which also originally fixed
COD4 up until version 0.9.59.
I've used BennyP's update since 0.9.59 and through some of the 1.0rcX releases
without issue. http://www.bennyp.org/wine/wine-0.9.59-3dmark.patch. I believe
COD4 still gives "Error during initialization: Video card or driver doesn't
support enough textures for the DirectX 9 code path." when the patch isn't
applied.

Everything displayes correctly for the time being and havn't met anything
"strange yet"
I m on ArchLinux 64bit with opensuse version of wine
Core 2 Quad 4 giga and 9600GT with 173x(latest) drivers

Summary: AvP1 Demo (Alien): vertical line and flicker artifacts
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.61.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.fileplanet.com/10556/10000/fileinfo/Aliens-
vs.-Predator-(Alien-Demo)
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net
Created an attachment (id=12678)

screenshot from the intro sequence, notice the vertical lines
Hi there,
I've set the component to d3d because that's most likely the thing where the
problem originates problem. I'm not completly sure about it, so if someone can
identify a different component then please switch it.
The problems are visual errors in the old DirectX game AvP1 (the alien demo).
Both vertical lines of different color appear and flickering artifacts. See the
screenshots for a better explanation.
The problem does not only appear with AvP1 but also with the System Shock 2
demo, but there we have some more problems.
The demo is free to download from FilePlanet (you just need a (free) account).
I didn't try finding other mirrors.
I also want to point out that the number of lines on the screen seems to be
related to the overall brightness of the screen content. During the startup
sequence of the AvP1 demo a movie is played, producing a sort of lightning
effect which illuminates the screen and therefore increases brightness a lot.
During this lightning the number of lines explodes.
I'm still trying to capture this, but I'm having a hard time finding the right
moment to take a screenshot.
Tests were done on a i915 with:
mesa-7.0.3
xf86-video-intel-2.3.0

> Is this still an issue in current (1.0-rc5 or newer) wine?
Yes (with 1.0). I should clarify, however, that segfault only happens when you
click on the "Install" label, not inmediately when running Autoplay.exe. My
initial report wasn't clear about this.

Before hanging Civ4 shows the following stub functions
fixme:msxml:schema_cache_add (0x133a30)->(L"x-schema:CIV4GameInfoSchema.xml",
var(vt 9)): stub
fixme:msxml:domdoc_putref_schemas (0x133a48): semi-stub
fixme:msxml:domdoc_putref_schemas (0x133a48): semi-stub
Maybe with an implementation of the first the bug could be solved.
