Wine then changes the screen resolution to 1280x1024 because WC3 doesn't support the native resolution. If compiz is enabled, the gnome-panel reappears and remains behind. If I manually change the screen resolution to 1280x1024 with xrandr and then run WC3, the gnome-panel remains hidden as expected.
