As far as I see it, this is not a Wine bug, but a WM one. As was
suggested in previous comments at least an opinion of WM developers
should be asked about that (before adding a workaround to Wine to
not use _NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_DIALOG style at all).

I have opened this Ubuntu bug, please find details there
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/202456
With Gnome, Wine applications may run in a most ugly way.
They have no minimize button.
Setting Wine Config|Graphics|Allow WM control off alleviates.
But Wine windows minimize to desktop, stay on top and keyboard input may go to
the underlying windows instead, plus tanking weid screenshots and more
I found that System|Preferences|Appearance|Visual Effects being turned off is
the condition for the problem to occur.
Hence, it's unavoidable on unaccelerated video, old and cheaper hardware.
Ubuntu assigned this bug to Metacity (because it's the one used w/o V Effects).
But Ubuntu sounds more like wanting to close this ugly bug than fix it.
This lasted 1 year.
And now, do I find the needed patch dormant for 2 years here?
I would like to know :
- if the problem I described is a Wine or Metacity problem
- If it's a Wine problem, whether the fix in here fixes it.
Thanks.

Just to confirm my point, in Fedora 10 I've reinstalled
"wine-core-0.9.58-1.fc9.i386" which succeeded in running c-evo application,
despite the following console output :
fixme:mci:MCI_LoadMciDriver Couldn't load driver for type L"MPEGVIDEO".

you perhaps forgot to create a [mci] section in system.ini

just equivalent to what dave has posted. This output is very likely to be
linked to mpg issue ...
Nevertheless application works fine under wine ver 0.9.58 (on Fedora at

playing them, whatever version was used.
For a better display of graphics please download a add to your local c-evo tree
the content of the following download :
http://c-evo.org/files/download.php?vinegar.vinegar.zip
which contains nothing but png and txt files.
The adress reported in the modal window seems to be bind to the selected tribe
(Cf Screenshot of dialog box arising from access violation attachment). It
seems to be a different constant for each tribe.
What a pitty this nice open source application does not work any more since
wine ver 1.x.x ...
I've got no idea whether CrossOver from CodeWeavers behave any better ... run
the application with or without playing mp3 sound files.
Regards
