console output when trying to open a docx file in Word 2003
Microsoft's FileFormatConverter.exe gives Office 2003 the ability to open
Office 2007 files. I tried installing it to my working Office 2003 wine
installation. The installer ran fine, ending with a message that installation
was complete. However, when I tried to open a docx file in Word 2003, it
aborted with the message "There was an error opening the file." I've attached
the console output. Getting this program to work would be very useful to those
of us who have to deal with documents from people using Office 2007.

Console logs
Actually, warhammer is playable at decent speed.
The troubleshooting is starting the game, or charging a map (mission, campaign,
etc.)
It requires arround 10min to have the first game menu...
And it requires other 10minutes if you want to play.
The game is unplayble since it requires 20minutes to start gaming.
But the game itself even with highest options work very well.
The problem is the same with older wine versions.
And apparently the Warhammer mark of chaos (whitout battle march addon
installed)
Have the same loading problem.

Steps to reproduce:
1- Open Photoshop
2- Create a new document or open one
3- Pick a selection tool or clone or any of the tool making use of an alternate
function using alt
4- Try to use this alt-click option and instead of for instance for the select
tool, deselecting, it will move the window.
This action is very important because there is no other way to use certain of
Photoshop's tool, making tools like clone and healing useless.

An app I'm looking at is doing
TRACKMOUSEEVENT tme;
tme.cbSize = sizeof(TRACKMOUSEEVENT);
tme.dwFlags = TME_LEAVE;
tme.hwndTrack = my_hWnd;
TrackMouseEvent(&tme);
which causes the following valgrind complaint:
Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s)
at TrackMouseEvent (input.c:1043)
by MyTrackMouseLeave (in app)
...
Uninitialised value was created by a stack allocation
at MyTrackMouseLeave (in app)
Looking at git blame user32/input.c, I see line 1043 is the if:
hover_time = ptme->dwHoverTime;
if (hover_time == HOVER_DEFAULT || hover_time == 0 ||
!(ptme->dwHoverTime&TME_HOVER))
Squinting at that a bit, it get the feeling the bitmask check is a typo;
shouldn't that be dwFlags, not dwHoverTime?
Also, if TME_HOVER is not set, we probably shouldn't
be looking at dwHoverTime, right?
FWIW, that bitmask check was added by
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-October/031794.html
Incidentally, while playing around, I noticed that the test
crashes if you get too many events. I'll attach a little patch to
fail more gracefully.

Surprisingly, cygwin seems to work nowadays,
as long as you do everything inside a wineconsole
running cygwin.bat. (Perhaps cygwin apps should
work outside wineconsole; that would be a separate
bug report.)
However, cygwin's gcc doesn't work unless you
replace certain cygwin symlinks with unix ones, e.g.
$ cd .wine/drive_c/cygwin/usr/i686-pc-cygwin/bin
$ for a in *; do ln -sf ../../../bin/$a; done
Likewise, /bin/vi doesn't work, as it's a symlink to vim.exe.
In fact, cygwin's ls -l doesn't even recognize cygwin's symlinks as such:
$ ls -l vi
-rw-r--r-- 1 dank mkpasswd 18 Oct 19 05:53 vi
$ cat vi
!<symlink>vim.exe
So either they're not being created right, or they're
not being recognized properly by cygwin for some reason,
or both.

I am not sure if thats due wintab32,because im not a developer.
Applications like SAI that are wonderfully small ,full featured and even better
than photoshop for CG coloring (better brushes, other key features) work almost
perfectly fine on wine, but their practically useless when tablet pressure
doesnt work..
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=11044
another application that is a freeware and a fine substitute for painter is
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7425&iTestingI…
tablet pressure works on photoshop and artrage, but not on many other key
applications in the graphic world that crucially depend on it. This feature is
very important, since there are absolutely no alternatives to these applications
on linux (if you study their key features you'll see there arent any on windows
too at the moment, especially Sai). The applications work almost perfectly on
wine, but that lack of this feature stops people from taking advantage of that.
Another application is Open Canvas...
But especially Sai- If there is any hack or workaround to get pressure
sensitivity working on sai, even a patch..i would gladly test it and report any
progress on Sai on wine.

Hi!
The builtin wnaspi32.dll seems to number SCSI Port IDs 0,1,2,4,8,0x10,....
(like the native linux controller IDs), instead of 0,1,2,3,4,5..... (as
required by ASPI as far as I was told). So every device connected to a SCSI
Port ID larger then 2 is not visible to applications.
At least on my machine I see this numbering in the
HKLM/Hardware/DEVICEMAP/Scsi/
tree. "Scsi Port x" where x=0,1,2,4,8,.....
I tried to run "Easy CD-CA Extractor" and my DVD-Drive is connected to
controller id 4 (which should be 3 in ASPI aspects). Copying the whole tree
from "Scsi Target 4" to "Scsi Target 3" worked.
The developer of "Easy CD-DA Extractor" told me that ASPI requires a
0,1,2,3,4,5,... numbering.

Hi,
First bug report for Wine-hope I tell you enough. First, thanks for all the
work.
I'm trying to run a demo version of an interesting program called Universal
Mechanism. It's developed by a university and is able to solve and simulate
physical systems quite accurately. It's used by companies and researchers, and
is reasonably affordable:
http://umlab.ru/index.htm
The program works, but large parts of the display vanish except when the mouse
pointer is moved over them. Could be used, but tedious. I'd guess it might be
an interesting program for some users, quite a rare type of program, and
useful. Since it runs OK, except UI I wondered if you might be able to
investigate? I don't know which part of wine might be responsible, but I'd
guess one of the accelerated graphics libraries. I'm using Debian Etch, with
your package: 0.9.44~winehq0~debian~4.0-1
I have an nvidia graphics card, and opengl works fine for other apps, via
nvidia driver, again debian package.
If you need more info please ask,
Thanks in advance,
Arthur

Hi,
I believe this bug relates to DirectDraw. (Apologies for my lack of detailed
knowledge about Windows.)
In some cases, moving a window whose contents are updated by DirectX calls
causes trash/garbage to appear when the window is drawn in its new position,
My theory is that WINE remembers the window contents at the moment the user
begins dragging the title bar, and simply copies that to the new window
position. If the program continues to update the DirectX buffer while the user
is moving the window frame, WINE puts the old/stale buffer contents in the
moved window. This happens in both normal and virtual desktop modes.
For applications like video players, this effect may not be very noticeable if
the player redraws the whole window every frame. But for applications which
don't do that, the effect can be quite ugly.
One program I have found which shows this problem is WinUAE. To reproduce:
- Download and install WinUAE from http://www.winuae.net/
- Download an example disk image for testing, e.g.
ftp://ftp.coresystems.de/pub/uae/rsi1.adf.gz
- Start WinUAE and select the rsi1.adf.gz file for emulated drive DF0:, and
start the emulation.
- Once the demo graphics appear, repeatedly move the main WinUAE window and
notice the problem.

Mouse input in NOLF is generally a bit "inprecise", but one thing is broken for
sure.
Some weapons feature a zoom mode, but when this zoom mode is switched on it's
almost impossible to accurately use it since the mouse input becomes very
sluggish then. Turn zoom off again and mouse input stabilizes again.
I suppose that's a dinput problem, but I'm not sure about that.
The wine-0.9.46 testresult here
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=305&iTestingId…)
mentions a "weird mouse problem", but I'm not sure if that's what I'm
encountering.
Haven't tried any native DLLs though.

It seems like CompareStringW does not work correctly, when using wide/unicode
strings. I first discovered this when I saw that listbox controls sorted
swedish characters (say, LATIN SMALL LETTER A WITH RING ABOVE) side by side
with the base character (LATIN SMALL LETTER A). An example is
http://www.cendio.se/~astrand/wine/40-listbox-sort/list.exe.
The cause seems to be that CompareStringW gives the wrong result. I've created
the small test example
http://www.cendio.se/~astrand/wine/40-listbox-sort/comparestring.exe, with
source available in the same directory. On Windows, the result is that the
string "äpple" is greater than "orange", which is correct. With the latest
Wine CVS version, the result is that "äpple" is lesser than "orange", which is
wrong.

In XP, STM_SETIMAGE makes a copy of bitmaps with alpha, which allows
applications to delete the bitmaps they passed in. Many programmers expect this
as the default behavior, since they don't test on older Windows platforms.
Our STM_SETIMAGE implementation still follows the pre-XP behavior, which may
cause rendering problems for apps that use STM_SETIMAGE extensively.
I don't have a minimal test case just yet...

Nexus TK (download from http://nexustk.com/, AppDB entry is
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=926) crashes
when editing a board post.
It is possible to type the post without problems. As far as I can tell, the
problem occurs when doing something other than continuing to type, or pasting
-- most recently, I attempted to hilight some text, and crash.
By "crash", I mean the game (running in a 1024x768 desktop window) stops
responding entirely, and the log seems to indicate that some process died.
Note: Nexus works flawlessly with version 0.9.40 -- it has no bugs that Nexus
itself doesn't when running under Windows, and, in fact, is often more stable
than on Windows. I'll add regression tests and logs soon...
The game is otherwise usable, as far as I can tell. For now, I will compose in
a separate window, and paste into Nexus.
Every version I have tried since 0.9.40 has had problems. I believe the game
would not even run until 0.9.62, and this bug does happen in 1.0-rc1. Stock
Ubuntu install from a repository.

I've submitted a patch to wine-patches that fixes this problem (and afaik,
doesn't introduce any new ones), though I'm not sure if it's really "neat"
enough.

it :)

Proposed fix
Recent wine versions abort on startup if the config directory isn't owned by
the user running wine.
This breaks setups where several users share a common wine prefix (e.g. to make
applications that make heavy use of the registry available to several users
without installing them several times) and they have the right access to the
configs through group permissions.
Unless I'm overlooking a better way to do this, it would make more sense to
check proper permissions than to check ownership. I'm attaching a patch that
does that.

Output when trying to run the program under Wine
I am trying to install Davka Judaic Classics IIc, a bookshelf kind of software
with Hebrew books. It is a win32 program that was designed for running also on
win3.11, hence the installer is, I believe, win16. I have used this software on
Win95 and Win98. The program happily runs off emulated cdroms.
I have now tried to install this program under wine, but can't even get the
installer to run. Attached you will find the output when running "wine
installa.exe" (the installer for installs from floppy drive a:). For the
record, I am using Fedora 10 for x86_64, with wine i386, version 1.1.7. The
kernel is 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64.
Can someone make sense out of the error message? How do I get around this?

Summary: Netbeans 6 installer hangs or exits silently
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: Other

netbeans-6.0-javase-windows.exe
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, Installer
Severity: normal

Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
[Yeah, yeah, I know, one should usually run netbeans with
the native JRE, but running it with the windows one makes
for a splendid test of wine, one that we should at least
not fall over immediately on.]
Install the latest JDK first.
wine netbeans-6.0-javase-windows.exe
either hangs or exits silently.
Sometimes it's after printing
> Create new process:
> command : "c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\java.exe" -Djava.io.tmpdir=C:\windows\temp\ -Xmx256m -Xms64m -classpath C:\windows\temp\\NBI67217.tmp\bundle.jar org.netbeans.installer.Installer
Sometimes it gets a bit further and hangs or exits silently after printing
fixme:shell:UnixFolder_IShellFolder2_GetDefaultColumnState stub
Out of paranoia, I copied the installer to c:\ and turned off the z:\
drive to see if the hang was it pawing through all my files, but that didn't
change much.

Summary: Siemens SIMATIC STEP 7: can't use Next or Cancel when
installing
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.6
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: refic(a)psimerion.org
When I try to install SIMATIC STEP 7 everything goes fine until a window pops
up where I have to click Next to begin with the actual installation (or Cancel
to abort it). Clicking Next does nothing, nor does clicking Cancel.
This is what I see in terminal when I click Next:
fixme:rpc:RpcImpersonateClient (0x2fdf450): stub
err:ole:ClientRpcChannelBuffer_SendReceive called from wrong apartment, should
have been 0x470000000b
err:ole:xCall RpcChannelBuffer SendReceive failed, 8001010e
Attached is a full log. I had to manually kill the installer because I couldn't
just abort it.
