Are there any current drivers without GLSL support, if anything to confirm that
this bug is still an issue with them?

I'd like to add that this only affects the GLSL path - drivers without GLSL
support will still have the problem.

Interesting! Looking through the changelogs I think it was wine ver. 1.1.38
that fixed the issue (if it really is fixed).
Probably one of Henri's commits, e.g. this one:
wined3d: Handle a zero source value for WINED3DSIH_RCP.

Created an attachment (id=27646)

screenshot - comparison between 1.1.37 & 1.1.43
This issue seems to be fixed, somewhere between 1.1.37 and 1.1.39 (i have no
compiled version for 1.1.38). In 1.1.37 characters are still overbrighted,
1.1.39 renders characters properly.
Tried with the demo and the retail version of the game, clean wine install,
in-game details were set to 'High' (including 'Pixel shaders for skin')
Fedora 12 x86
Wine-1.1.43
Nvidia 7xxx series card with driver 195.36.24

Summary: World of Warcraft: Forward walk animation not
displaying properly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.43
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: eg.galano(a)gmail.com
CC: dank(a)kegel.com
When holding down [w] to walk forward in World of Warcraft, the animation
freezes and though the character continues moving forward, it makes it look
like he is skating. Pressing [a] or [d] to begin moving in any other direction
fixes the animation until you let go of [w] and then hold it down again at
which point the animation freezes again.
