"WARNING: Trying to use ICMP (network ping) will fail unless running as root"
This message was raised by a legitimate application trying to reach a network
license server.
I'm guessing this was a design decision to limit windows DoS malware to use
wine as a platform.
Since users are told to never ever ever run wine as root, this message is quite
confusing.

Summary: Wine chooses Arial Black instead of Arial font

Excerpt from output with WINEDEBUG=font
I just updated Qimage (http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage) to version 2009.209
and the UI displays with the wrong font. For some reason the Wine font engine
thinks that Arial Black is a better match for the requested font than Arial,
which is what the app asks for and what it gets with Windows.
If I physically delete the ariblk.ttf file, it will use Arial as desired.
It did this with the 1.1.14 version in my distro (Fedora 9 64-bit) and also
with 1.1.18 freshly compiled from source.

Patch Crash Log
Trying to run the patch first results in a Windows error message and then a
Wine crash dialogue, the patch doesn't appear or open at any point.
.NET 2 (dotnet20) is installed.
Patch linked in the download box because it may be possible to run it (and see
the crash) without the game being installed) as it crashes before it appears to
have even checked for the game.

Thief 3: Deadly Shadows, FreeBSD cpuset (manually set suid bit), Wine 1.2
NOTE: the command from issue 2 solves the problem with issue 1, but produces
its own issue
Issue 1:
running wine with:

T3Main.exe
results in:
wineserver: /tmp/.wine-7628 is not owned by you

Issue 2:
running wine with:

make the game to *not write saves*, i.e. if you push quick-save key, no "game
saved" message, and after exiting or loading, the "slow"-save list reverts to
its initial state as it was before running the game

If the initial reporter can't reproduce this anymore, I'd suggest closing the
bug (seems to be gone since 1.1.29 and hasn't resurfaced for me with 1.3.0).
Only difference to the software mode is, that Tropico seems to use more CPU
resources in hardware mode.
