That bug report pretty much sums up the issue. It may be something kernel/OS/Share Library-specific, but it is only triggered by Wine (I've googled everywhere and Wine is the only app reporting this error). There was a previous bug report opened that was declared INVALID: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22331 The reason, as you can see, is the user of the unsupported Pulseaudio patch. Well, this error happens WITH or WITHOUT the said patch and it affects alsa. Even with OSS selected, something inside aoss affects it and randomly causes it to fail with the mmap() errors. Can it be Pulse? Can it be something else? Since it's Wine-specific, I decided to open a bug report here as well. This only happens in Ubuntu 9.10, AFAIK, and my biggest problem is that I do not know what prints the "mmap()" message. Resolution 1680x1050. Played until the first fight, killed a few enemies and then stopped because Bug 13046 happened. This is the case for the CineBench R10 installer which is in fact a 7-zip self-extracting archive. If you click on the [...] button you get a dialog where you get to select the destination directory. In this dialog you also have a 'Create New Folder' button (most likely IDS_NEWFOLDER from dlls/comdlg/cdlg_En.rc). However this button has no effect.
