Summary: Portable Apps Thunderbird loses ability to display
text
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.39
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: marc(a)marcchamberlin.com
I am running Portable Apps Version 1.6 of Thunderbird Version 3.0.3 Initially
upon launch it seems to work fine. But after I use it to read several emails,
the display of part of the email and/or the display of the text in menus or
buttons of Thunderbird begin to disappear and not be rendered properly. This
seems to affect only certain subsections of Thunderbird at a time. For example
when reading an email that has been forwarded, replied to, or part of a mail
list thread, then only the previous replies, or the new added content of the
email is affected and does not show up. For menus perhaps only the submenus may
not show up, leaving just the major headers.. or perhaps the tool bar buttons
text will disappear.
It seems odd that not all the text in an email, or menus/buttons will disappear
but that is what is happening and it is hard to describe.

to other programs:
- if I run wine using the fglrx driver wow works correctly
- if I use the radeon driver the texture got messed up (the card get reported
as baseline nvidia)
- if I force wine to report the same model as the one reported when using the
fglrx wow works again.

Summary: Texture corruption in guild war with fglrx 9.8

I have some problems running Guildwar with fglrx 9.8 under Arch 64.
Actually the game installs/startup perfectly.
But get some odd texture corruptions. The corruption is noticable if you stand
in a long distance from the texture.
I attached a screenshot, where you see the distortion within the red markings,
and the same kind of texture (closer), without distortion in the green marking.
Actually the first time i load the game, there aren't any distortion. But when
I jump to another place within the game, the distortion starts to appear. It
seems like memory problems?
I got these setting in my user.reg file:
[Software\\Wine\\Direct3D]
"DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl"
"MaxFragmentUniforms"="1024"
"MaxVaryings"="52"
"MaxVertexUniforms"="1024"
"OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo"
"PixelShaderMode"="enabled"
"UseGLSL"="disabled"
"VertexShaderMode"="hardware"
"VideoMemorySize"="1024"
I have tried with/without UseGLSL enabled, and backbuffer instead of fbo.
pbuffer crash the game. Every settings gave the same corruptions.
I am willing to patch wine for getting this to work proberly.
Thx for your help.

It bundles its own, but eventually Wine may want to implement it for other apps
that don't.
We've got a lot of the other msvc runtime dll's now, anyway :-).
To test, remove the native one from C:\Program
Files\Futuremark\3dmark06\msvcp71.dll.

Summary: TREPCAD St3: no 'close' window control (regression)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc3
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: andreas(a)braml.org
CC: dmitry(a)codeweavers.com
TREPCAD3 St3 doesn't have a 'close' window control (the small x) any more.
Alt-F4 works. The control used to be there until recently.
The app can be used in two ways: as a plugin to MegaCAD and as a standalone
app. When used standalone, it doesn't have a menu bar (so, no 'File->Quit').
But it always has the 'x' to close (on real Windows and on Wine before the
regression).
I ran a regression test and the bad commit is:
commit e35e75b4bf5db54cd6cda0c95dc8c9e14c1fccfb
(winex11.drv: Do not allow WM actions for windows with WS_DISABLED style set)
Ping me which logs you need to investigate. Plain console log isn't that
useful, I suppose.

Summary: Security: use CAP_SYS_RAWIO during start up to map the
memory below mmap_min_addr instead of permanently
lowering it at install time
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.21
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scott(a)open-vote.org
Background:
In order to work around the mmap_min_addr setting introduced a while back that
breaks Wine, many Wine packages now install conf files to /etc/sysctl.d/ that
disable mmap_min_addr entirely. This reduces security of the system, as any
kernel null pointer dereference bug can root the machine. One such bug was
found to be open for 8 years.
This launchpad bug gives hints at what we need to do to implement this within
Wine properly.
----
>From Launchpad:
I would like to see wine and dosemu using filesystem capabilties to temporarily
grant themselves CAP_SYS_RAWIO during start up to map the memory below
mmap_min_addr, instead of requiring that the entire running system have their
mmap_min_addr lowered.
Implementing this would involve two halves: setting up the filesystem
capabilities when the package installed (postinst most likely), and dropping
the capability once the program had allocated memory.
Here is a quick example of how to mark an executable with a capability:
http://www.friedhoff.org/posixfilecaps.html#Examples%20-%20Substitution%20o…
They use numeric values, but it may be more readable to use text version:
sudo setcap cap_sys_rawio=ep low-mmap
(setcap is in libcap2-bin)
Part 2 involves dropping the capability:
http://git.0pointer.de/?p=pulseaudio.git;a=blob;f=src/daemon/caps.c;hb=86de…
the pa_drop_caps and shows how to drop capabilities, and pa_have_caps shows how
to test for a specific capability. (In the example's case, CAP_SYS_NICE.)
(sorry, lost some context for my setcap paste: "low-mmap" is the program I was
setting capabilities on. "cap_sys_rawio" is the textual version of the
capabilities.)

It could be that the way the Enter Bug page is designed, this message is not
prominent enough for everyone to perceive its importance.
maybe it could be larger to place more emphasis on the message or alternatively
feature a stop sign graphic next to it saying something like "STOP, read this."

Summary: stepmania 3.9 locks up after a kde pop-up
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.29
Platform: x86
URL: http://www.stepmania.com
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P1
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: eur0maniac(a)yahoo.ca
I used Wine version 1.1.29 to launch the freeware Stepmania DDR game,
and I noticed that when a KDE based alert appears, it would usually never
disappear like it normally does when the wine program is not in use. Instead,
the alert stays on forever, and the game locks up. The only way out is to force
a power down of the computer and to turn it back on. Sometimes, this results in
the data loss on the FAT32 partition the game is on.
Such KDE alerts are as follows:
-- a large bubble identifying the program the arrow is pointing at in the
taskbar
-- a bubble in kopete messenger indicating the message the sender is sending
-- a box from kopete indicating one's online status.
I have tried this using "windows vista" and then using "windows xp" in
"application settings" of the wine control panel.
