Summary: Soulbringer: crash in D3D Hardware mode
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.5
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: emanuele.emalele(a)gmail.com
As stated in bug 11616 the game SEEMS to work but only in Software low detailed
mode: when speaking about 'mode' I'm referring to an internal game mode
selection.
The game has four execution mode they can be chosen by a menu during launch.
Please note that I do not know the truly meaning of the mode itself but I
reported them as the game name themselves.
Here follows the Wine report:
Wine 1.2 report ->
Exec game mode: DirectDraw6 HAL -> not working, black screen and return to
desktop
Exec game mode: D3D7 HAL -> not working, black screen and return to desktop
Exec game mode: D3D7 T&L HAL -> not working, black screen and return to
desktop
Exec game mode: D3D7 RGB -> not working, black screen and return to desktop
Exec game mode: Software -> not working, black screen and return to desktop
Wine 1.3.5 report ->
Exec game mode: DirectDraw6 HAL -> black screen, return to desktop but music
in background so it seems that the game has launched
Exec game mode: D3D7 HAL -> not working, black screen and return to desktop
Exec game mode: D3D7 T&L HAL -> not working, black screen and return to
desktop
Exec game mode: D3D7 RGB -> not working, black screen and return to desktop
Exec game mode: Software -> IF I install native DCOM98 with winetricks -> the
game works perfectly
Exec game mode: Software -> IF I DO NOT install native DCOM98 with winetricks
-> the game has a similar behaviour as DirectDraw6 HAL but in this case I have
music and only a part of the first game menu's screen instead of black screen
I opened an issue to you as per point 6.6 of the Wiki Wine FAQ about DCOM;
anyway the best solution of course it's a fix of the hardware D3D mode. Please
note that I've tried D3D mode both with Vertex Shader hardware On and Off.
Thank you and please ask me anything you may need to solve the problem.

Verbose log (not very useful...)
Hi, when attempting to run Roblox games in Wine, it crashes. I've attached a
log, but it does not reveal anything useful. I also attempted to start a
debugger when the crash dialog appeared, but it did not load any information
for me to save. I would run this in +relay, but my computer does not play well
with heavy load... Any help would be appreciated!

Hello,
this is a long-standing issue for this game (but as far as I can see it has
been never reported): the in-game shop (not the store) crashes.
There's one patch that workarounds the issue but doesn't fix it:

Latest wine updates are causing constant crashes in VirtualDub; these happens
with several file types since wine-1.3.28 and I've been able to load back those
files after disabling directx usage.
Running wine from console (when using directx, as I used to do) gives me a
single error report (among several fixme messages, as usual) when VD has loaded
the file and is about to show it:
err:d3d:context_create wglSwapIntervalEXT failed to set swap interval 1 for
context 0x20b1c8, last error 0x591
then the application crashes and shows a dialog box with an alert "An integer
division by zero occurred in module 'VirtualDub'" which I believe is not really
related to the crash.
The error message (d3d error) points me to a video issue which, in fact,
disappears when disabling directx for display panes.
These crashes appeared when upgrading from 1.3.26 to 1.3.28 (there was no
1.3.27 wine binary for my lucid lynx) and still happen with 1.3.29.

This bug is about the cursor which displays the position,
where text will appear in an text editor.
In a text editor like notepad with enough content for scrollbars it is possible
to scroll so long, until the cursor gets displayed oudside the actual text
editor.
If you scroll to much the cursor gets captured outside the editor and doesn't
come back if you scroll back.
I can reproduce the bug with notepad, however if you scroll the cursor so much,
that it stays outside it will be actually out of the window.
To see that the cursor gets actually displayed, if there is still window at the
position you try the Application Warcraft III: World Editor, which suffers from
the same bug.

To reproduce:
- install Visual Web Developer Express 2008 (test result contains quite good
instructions:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=11210&iTesting…)
- run application, select File->New Web Site...
- click Browse.
Most of the time the application will crash due to heap corruption. Using
native comctl32 from winetricks lets the application work just fine.
If I'm interpreting the attached log correctly, the application copies its own
contents into the structure passed in lParam:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/2c8ea6ebff21428dc407d85af3f51608…
The data copied by application is 0x14c bytes in size, the buffer allocated by
comctl is 0x124 bytes.
Hardcoding a larger buffer size is sufficient to let the application work.

Hi,
I've tested 0.9.56, 0.9.48, 0.9.21(!) and noticed that there is a bug with
horizontal scrolling with winefile.
After clicking the right half of the horizontal scrollbar, so that the view
scrolls to the right, click to the left. The view should scroll back to the
left, but this does not happen.
The same happens in both displays of winefile (the file list and directory
tree). In the tree, the visual effect when scrolling back is "interesting".
OTOH, regedit scrolls perfectly fine.
Same when clicking the horizontal arrows instead of the bar.
I'm using Ubuntu Dapper and Gutsy, compiling wine snapshots myself, running
wine in a 800x600 virtual desktop.
Regards,
Jörg Höhle

I believe this one is different from the recently opened bug #31217.
The problem: the game crashes when I try to change screen resolution in the
game options menu. I can reproduce the crash both with the demo version and the
full (Steam) version of the game. The same crash happens in full screen as well
as in virtual desktop mode.
According to my testing, this is a regression from Wine 1.3.20 and the problem
is still present as of wine-1.5.8-160-g8613d5e.

This requires a couple of winsta function stubs for bug 34317.
It seems the program sends TB_GETBUTTONINFO to a toolbar with
TBIF_TEXT set, but pszText and cchText set to 0. This causes a crash when we
attempt to write to pszText.
One would think that the solution is to respect cchText even when there is no
text to return, but I got a crash when I tried to write a test that does this
on Windows. It seems Windows always crashes given NULL/0 for pszText/cchText
except when a string pointer is set for the button text.
>From the application source code
http://sourceforge.net/p/processhacker/code/5441/tree//2.x/trunk/plugins/To…
it looks to me like NULL/0 and the TBIF_TEXT flag will always be used, and I
can't find a way that the text would be set to a string pointer without reading
it in this way first. So I haven't been able to figure out how Process Hacker
could work on windows when my test did not.
I don't think this happened in 2.30.
This could easily be worked around in Process Hacker, but it appears to be a
Wine bug.

In EverQuest Next Landmark (Alpha) the mouse (scroll) wheel is not recognised
at all. It dose not work for any purpose it is intended for.
This is only inside the game itself. In the Launcher the mouse wheel work fine
to scroll in the list of news for example. But not in similar once inside game.
Mouse wheel works fine in all other games and applications I run in Wine.
As one has to pay to get in to the alpha I understand if no dev can reproduce
this.
But maybe you have some ideas on what I can try to get it to work?
The mouse wheel is used heavily in this game so it is quite a major
inconvenience that it doesn't work.

Summary: perfect world international errors out on startup
after Sirens of War expansion
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.17
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: andrewfulrich(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 42555
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=42555
the line from the debug output containing character codes for what I'm assuming
are Chinese characters
This was running fine until I was forced to update to the Sirens of War
expansion. Now, when I try to start it up, it immediately gives me a scrambled
error message box. I tried running wine with WINEDEBUG=+relay,+msgbox, but got
a 1.9 GB output file. After searching through it, I found the messagebox
output before it's incorrectly parsed for display (see attached
"messageBoxLine.txt). I assume these characters are supposed to be parsed as
Chinese characters, so maybe someone can do that and figure out what the
message is?

Summary: Regression: NoX game crashes when trying inputting
anything in any textbox
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.35
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: evengard(a)trioptimum.com
The NoX game
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4324) is crashing
when inputting in any textbox ingame (setting the player name, chatting,
inputting in game console) with the following error:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffff0027 at address 0xffff0027
(thread 0009), starting debugger...
I did a regression testing of the bug and found that the
0e270bbd226c34bd2831673c1c546f8db76b0487 commit is the bad one.
If needed, I can post here any backtraces needed (just say what is needed to
perform a test).
NOTE: the game works perfectly well in Win98, WinXP, WinVista and Win7

VHD Attach is an application to mount .vhd files as hard disks.
It depends on virtdisk.dll but wine doesn't include it.
I think we can implement it easily by using libvirt?
It support VHD file type.

Superfluous third
I am using KDE 4 and run PowerPoint 2007 via wine 1.2rc2 (however, the problem
I will describe exists for me since the time I first started using wine more
intensively)
How to reproduce:
1. Use KDE 4 (a friend tested with another window manager and could not
reproduce it)
2. Open a PowerPoint file. Everything is fine so far, works great. As usual, I
can switch between different windows without any problems
3. Open another PowerPoint file. Now things get strange! Instead of two
PowerPoint windows, I can see three windows: the two opened files and a third
window without any content but the title. (see attached screenshot)
In that state, I cannot simply change between the instances of PowerPoint but
always have to maximize the window I would like to choose.
When closing the second PowerPoint file, the superfluous small window stays.
As far as I have tested, this behaviour does not occur with multiple instances
of Word, for instance.

Summary: Environment variable to disable wineserver persistence
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wineserver
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: josh(a)joshtriplett.org
Normally, when wine runs a Windows program, and the Windows program exits,
wineserver persists for a couple of seconds to improve the performance of
subsequent programs. When running a testsuite that waits for all child
processes to exit, this delays each test completion for a couple of seconds.
Thus, I'd like to have an environment variable that tells wineserver to exit
the instant the Windows program does.

On the Windows console, if I try to read input events with ReadConsoleInputW()
and pass in NULL as the pointer to the lpNumberOfEventsRead field, wine
completes successfully where Windows XP fails and returns an error code.

Summary: LookupAccountName cannot retrieve a 'groups' SID
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.36
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: advapi32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: us(a)edmeades.me.uk
Debugging an application I found the cause of the first failure is that the
software installs a 'group' (which fails with a fixme). Post install, I created
a group (addgroup) but the application calls LookupAccountName to retrieve the
SID of that created group.
You can hack around this (if LookupAccountName fails, query the current user
and re-call the function to get it's sid) but looking at the function there is
complete support missing for anything other than the current user.
Ideally it should call (something like getgrent?) and if it finds a group, map
it to a SID somehow (perhaps end the SID with the gid?). It could handle
querying other users as well in a similar way (getpwnam?)

basic output on the command line
It used to run ok (although both Origin and SimCity were a nightmare to
install).
After a recent update, though when starting SimCity it never shows the splash
screen and spews this until you kill the process:
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_sm4_read_src_param Unhandled swizzle type 0.
I let it run for about 10 seconds and it spit out 11 million errors (log
attached).
If you want a more detailed log, let me know what options you'd like.

Log of StudioTax2012 installer
StudioTax 2012 installer stops with error 67108864 (presented in a dialog, see
screenshot). Clicking 'OK' brings up another similar error dialog with a
different error number, clicking on that dialog brings up another and so on.
Prerequisite: 'winetricks dotnet40' and the installer must be run from the C:
drive (or at least it doesn't like being run from Z:) or the installer fails
earlier with an 'Invalid command line' error dialog.
Website suggests that .NET 2.0 SP2 is required but installing dotnet20sp2 via
winetricks causes the installer to fail much earlier complaining about lack of
space.
Attached +msi,+msidb as it appears to be MSI related.

crash log
Call of Duty Ghosts uses 'PE32+' EXE to start up in 32-bit, but ultimately
requires a 64-bit set up to run. It would seem like it probably does this so it
can at least tell the user of a 32-bit system that they need to have a 64-bit
set up to run.
It calls this function at start. I replaced psapi.dll with one from my Windows
7 installation (because PSAPI.EnumProcessModulesEx is not implemented in
64-bit), but after that the call is forwarded to kernel32
K32EnumProcessModulesEx.

Shows readable licence and unreadable labels etc.
1: Go to http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/download/ and click on
"SkeedReceiverインストールはこちら" to download the program.
2: Run the program. Use a Japanese locale just in case: "LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine
SKEE~OQ5.EXE"
3: Start the installation process. The installer will now download the whole
Skeedreceiver program. Download starts automatically. The only button available
says "cancel" (キャンセル), so there is no need to do anything. Japanese characters
are displayed properly at this step.
4: After the program has been downloaded, you will see more information where
many Japanese characters are turned into square boxes. Only the licence
agreement is readable: everything else consists of boxes.
Attached image shows a screenshot of the licence agreement. The character
display problem occurs elsewhere in the program too.

Summary: Xara Designer Pro 6 demo crashes when you select
'continue trial'
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.1
Platform: x86
URL: http://www.xara.com/us/downloads/designer/

Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Install the free demo, then use 'winetricks msxml4' to get past bug 24111,
and the app presents a dialog asking whether you want to buy the app
or continue the trial. The buttons are poorly rendered.
If you continue the trial, it crashes with
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000004 in 32-bit code
(0x00d691bf).
(I later accidentally ran the app with wine-1.2; it complained about msxml4
again,
but after that, in wine-1.3.1, the buttons were ok, and I even started the
app once all the way into its main interface.)

And when we run
$ wine MiroVideoConverter_Setup.exe
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading
configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
fixme:shell:DoEnvironmentSubstW (L"%TEMP%", 260): stub
a small dialog with "disk full" erorr appears.
other apps like format factory etc are installing fine.
Installed on Fedora 18 x86_64, with "WINEARCH=win32 winecfg"
The disk has like many Gigs free. Why is it giving disk full error? any
workaround?
thanks.

Console output when the crash occured
Page fault happens in DOSVM_AllocCodeUMB of krnl386.exe16. The apparent cause
is that the DOS upper memory block was never actually allocated before being
used.
I don't know how to attach multiple attachments, so this is a patch I made that
appeared to fix the problem. I don't know much about the internals of Wine so
I'm not sure if this is a good patch or not.

Summary: Metal Fatigue crashes when I attempt to change
skirmish map
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.29
Platform: PC

Backtrace from Wine 1.0.1
In newer Wine versions I can't get back traces, because Wine hags with a system
error dialog(the send or don't send error report one if under Windows). I can't
click anywhere so I have to kill the process and I won't get the back trace.
However, I know this issue is very old so I installed a Wine (1.0.1) which
didn't have that error dialog yet. Now it simply crashes, but I get back
trace...
Clicking to change the map will immediately make an unhandled exception and the
debugger will start.
The Demo do not have any skirmish maps.
