NOTE: The game requires steps in
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40450#c9 to work. The instructions
apply to Wine 2.8 Staging Git but not maybe to newer Wine versions.
-----------------------------------------------
After successfully launching ROTTR on 64-bit Windows Steam client and using
lowest graphics settings (http://i.imgur.com/58mRqUz.jpg) the gameplay looks
like this (you have just started a new game):
Case A:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/j4a4j2wwtuhg05b/rottr-full-log-wine-staging-git-2…)
Case B:
However, if you
1) Start a new game
2) quit to the desktop
3) keep the graphics settings as they are (you don't even touch them)
4) re-launch the game and resume your existing gameplay
5) the gameplay looks like this:
http://i.imgur.com/PO2XARH.png (Output log file, 26.5 MB:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/l99h84vlh23w2ft/rottr-log-after-resuming-the-game…)
-----------------------------------------------
Linked log files include the following events:
1) Starting 64-bit Windows Steam client
2) Starting ROTTR launcher
3) Launching ROTTR in the launcher
4) Opening the main menu (which includes DX11 graphics)
5)
Case A: Starting a new game in ROTTR main menu + watching an intro movie (file
which plays right after starting a new game) + Gameplay for some 5-10 minutes
(DX11 graphics)
Case B: Continuing an existing game + Gameplay for some 30 seconds (DX11
graphics)
6) Quitting the game & Steam (Steam throws some unexpected crashes which are
also in the log files, just ignore them for now)
-----------------------------------------------
P.S. Sorry I didn't use any attachments, as I thought it would be practically
better to use links for multiple images/txt files instead.

ROTTR.exe log (no additional debugging parameters)
The game can't be launched, neither using Steam or ROTTR.exe.
The game uses Denuvo anti-tamper/protection technology + DirectX11. I dedubbed
the game using a clean Wine 1.9.7 64-bit installation without additional
winetricks stuff.
For Steam client, Windows version was set to XP, otherwise the prefix used
Windows 7 version (for ROTTR.exe, for example).

Summary: old apps don't run because of too much memory
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jb999(a)gmx.de
Old programs like the write.exe from Windows 3.1 do not run if there is too
much memory available - see http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;253912
for a detailed description. The method to limit memory mentioned there doesn't
work with wine. What's missing is a possibilty to give an application less
memory to work with.

Downwell's main screen when the game is first launched
When Downwell is first launched either via Steam or via terminal, the game
always launches off center. Fortunately enough, the game's options menu is
visible enough so that I can get the gem to go into windowed mode, set it to
full screen and play the game.
I've attached a screenshot of what this looks like.

In ABBYY Lingvo 12 the menubar is smaller than it should be. This causes the
letters to be not completely visible. Also see the attached screenshot.
I have the Windows version set to Windows XP.

Backtrace provided by the Wine error message.
Bug appears after logging into the "Blizzard App".
("Blizzard App" is currently only working in Wine-Staging - see
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=28855 for
details)
After logging into the "Blizzard App", suddenly a Wine error message pops up,
telling me that "Battle.net Helper.exe" has crashed. I'm attaching the
backtrace.
Nevertheless I can use the "Blizzard App" to start StarCraft 2 and it runs
well.
I guess this isn't #32342, because I got fetchmsttfonts-11.4-23.1.noarch
installed via Linux package management and I also did:
env WINEPREFIX="${HOME}"/wines/starcraft2_x64/ winetricks_2017-12-22.sh
corefonts
