When I try to run EstimateS version 9.1.0 via "wine drive_c/EstimateS\ 9\ Windows/EstimateSWin910/EstimateSWin910.exe" it crashes with "wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000024 at address 0xdf9149 (thread 0009), starting debugger..." I have these wine packages installed via the Ubuntu PPA: wine-gecko2.24:amd64 - 2.24-0ubuntu1~ppa1 wine-gecko2.24:i386 - 2.24-0ubuntu1~ppa1 wine-mono4.5.2 - 4.5.2-0ubuntu1~ppa1 wine1.7 - 1:1.7.25-0ubuntu1~ppa4 wine1.7-amd64 - 1:1.7.25-0ubuntu1~ppa4 wine1.7-i386 - 1:1.7.25-0ubuntu1~ppa4 winetricks - 0.0+20140302-0ubuntu2 The backtrace is attached. The application is freeware and can be downloaded from http://viceroy.eeb.uconn.edu/estimates/EstimateSDownload/EstimateS_910_Wind…. At the end the install, it tells you there was a problem starting the database. Looking at its log, I see: creating template1 database in C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/9.3/data/base/1 ... Execution of PostgreSQL by a user with administrative permissions is not permitted. The server must be started under an unprivileged user ID to prevent possible system security compromises. See the documentation for more information on how to properly start the server. child process exited with exit code 1 initdb: removing contents of data directory "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/9.3/data" Called Die(Failed to initialise the database cluster with initdb)... Failed to initialise the database cluster with initdb Vincent offered the user a suggestion on how to avoid it, I'll attach that patch.
