Sid Meier's Pirates! (patched to the latest 1.0.2 version) performs badly in
Wine. This issue is described in several test results on the Appdb page of the
game, too.
I can observe the following symptoms:
- After the intro video played, it takes almost 2 minutes to get into the main
menu (without noticeable hdd activity).
- When I get into the game and visit any places in the port (Governor,
Merchant, Tavern etc.) it usually takes the game 15-20 seconds to display the
next screen (although music plays continuously).
- While sailing, the game frequently "freezes" for 2-3 seconds without no
apparent reasons.
When those hiccups occur all animations freeze on the current screen until the
next screen is loaded but music plays fluently.
Reducing the screen resolution, graphical details or disable audio doesn't
help.
I remember playing this game several years ago in a native Win XP without this
issues.
No demo available.

A binary crash report generated by Visual Cadd 6.0
When trying to do a normal file save (with thumbnail written into the file) in
Visual Cadd 6.0 the program crashes. The crash only occurs when running under
wine, as opposed to running in Windows.
I found a workaround that seems to point to the problem. I found that if I
clear the check-box for "Show Preview" in the file save dialog box, the file
saves normally. Tri-tools.com has been very cooperative in offering help,
rather than simply saying "We don't support Linux" as so many developers do
when asked for help. Here is a paste of their latest response to information
that I had given them:

The next step to improve Arabic support in Wine after fixing bug 24608 is
fixing writing Arabic. Let me explain more, Now when you open Arabic text,
Notepad will display it good enough to read it although it doesn't support full
RTL. The problem is when you try to write something in Arabic. The new text
will not be displayed correctly. It is displayed like that wine doesn't support
Arabic at all. The interesting thing is when you select the text, the text will
be displayed right.

When selecting a library using the mouse and clicking on the Library Bar, at
the bottom, it is above the Status Bar, the user has to hold the mouse and move
off the Library Bar then release the mouse button, for it to change to the
selected library.
If this procedure is not followed, it closes the clip book, usually on the left
of the screen, but can be put on the right.
This has been an issue with the past several versions of Wine.
This issue also occurs on NoteTab Light and Standard.

Need for Speed II, a multithreaded game works on single cpu machines, does not
work on SMP machine.
wine-0.9.53, Ubuntu 7.04, nVidia 8800GTS, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.4GHz
the point at which things go wrong isn't always the same, sometimes part of the
intro video clip display other times it will hang before, if you adjust the
priority of the process it may get a little further but still goes pearshaped.

loader_section" wait timed out in thread 001a, blocked by 0018, retrying (60
sec)

works flawlessly.
I can't test on a SMP windows machine.

For some reason Wine no Longer Run's Pylotro DDO Laucher and Wine Freezes up on
DDO on Sayin it "Installing Pre-Req's" or "initializing" or "downloading

Incorrect face culling causes major graphical glitches.
Final Fantasy XI is suffering major graphical glitches because triangles are
culled incorrectly.
Disabling the two calls to glEnable(GL_CULL_FACE) in
"wine/dlls/wined3d/state.c" makes the glitches disappear and the game is
rendered perfectly.
I first observed this in the Debian/testing build (1.8.5-1) and also found this
to be the case when building 1.9.22 from source.
I used the Debian Linux kernel linux-image-4.7.0-1-amd64, as well as a
self-compiled 4.9.0-rc3 with Mesa 12.0.3.
GPU: "Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller"
The graphics flicker a lot when moving the camera even slightly, i.e. suddenly
other triangles get culled.
I'm not using any library overrides.

Mozart is a music notation and score editing program.
The latest version of the App, Mozart10, uses calls to the
Windows functions for handling image files and is mostly
broken. Its previous version, Mozart9, used a third party
library to process image files, and that worked with no
incident in WINE, but now that Windows functions are used,
there's no joy in this area. My WINE version is wine-1.1.33
with a clean install.
Attempting to save image files of a score in Mozart10, fails
with an error message "Failed to save file..." for file
extensions *.gif, *.jpg, *.tiff . There are no wine console
messages.
For files with extension *.png and *.bmp, Mozart10 saves a file,
but with no image in it. Files with extension *.emf
(Windows encapsulated meta file <i.e.,paint>) are saved with only
part of the image correctly displayed.
To sum up: file types with extensions: *.gif, *.jpg, *.tif,
*.png, *.bmp, *.emf are saved with images of the music score
in Windows XP, Vista, and Win7, but this does not work in
wine-1.1.33/Mozart10.

is a cute little game that works well if you do
winetricks-alpha vd=640x480 dinput
and run it with
wine c:\\UbiSoft\\Rayman2Demo\\Rayman2Demo.exe
but it fails if you use the freedesktop.org icon placed
on the desktop or in the system menus. The icon target is
env WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.local/share/wineprefixes/rayman2_demo" wine
C:\\windows\\UbiSoft\\SetupUbi.exe -play\ Rayman2
That command in a terminal reproduces the error.
Removing the backslash between 'play' and 'Rayman2'
works around the problem, and lets you start the game from the menus.
And commenting out the line
case ' ':
in winemenubuilder.c in escape() also works around the bug.
Are there programs that rely on spaces being escaped in fdo desktop entries?

Press F5 to copy a large file (200MB), notice the progress bar looks empty and
it shows "0 %" all the time; after a while, if you keep staring at it, right at
the end it is updated and looks full.
I guess whatever library is doing the copying does not report back the
progress, except at the end..

I have this bug with both games from the Air Conflicts series when running
under Wine. The native Linux version of AC:Pacific Carriers (running under the
Linux version of Steam) doesn't have the problem. Also, running the Windows
version in Virtualbox doesn't have the problem.
The problem: the game starts fine and mouse/keyboard work as expected in the
menus, but when I start a mission the game is stuck in the loading screen. The
game is not completely dead because game tips are cycling through on the screen
and the text 'Press any key to continue' is flashing, but the game doesn't
accept mouse or keyboard input any more so I can't get in the game.
The ACPC.exe process is consuming 30-40% cpu, but nothing happens, I have to
kill the process to exit.

Windows messages).
When it is set to values > 0 (SC_TECHNOLOGY_DIRECTWRITE,
SC_TECHNOLOGY_DIRECTWRITERETAIN, or SC_TECHNOLOGY_DIRECTWRITEDC), Scintilla
uses DirectDraw accelerated via Direct2D for rendering instead of an own
surrogate.
In Windows >7 everything works fine.
In Wine performance is damn bad - single screen update takes several seconds.

Output of TERA with a play time of about 10 minutes
Hi! As described above TERA performs really bad under wine. This is confirmed
by many players I have talked to about this who played it via Wine before.
My system is a Gentoo x86_64 using an Intel i5-3570k with a Geforce GTX 660 and
I'm playing the EU Version: http://en.tera.gameforge.com/
I already tried a lot of possible solutions i found here, on the forums, on
other forums and across the internet but nothing really helped so far. (For
example: several registry keys, 32 and 64 bit prefix, using native/builtin dx3d
libraries, enabling the virtual window mode in wine, disabling the winedebug
output, ...)
Since none of that helped i want to ask here for help.
If anyone could install it on his machine and help me troubleshooting this i
would really appreciate it. Also if anyone has a dualboot system feel free to
compare the game between wine and native windows.
See attachment for an output log of TERA when i open the Launcher, log in and
play a little bit (about 10 minutes). As you can see it spams a load of
'fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.' errors which i
think are the reason for the bad performance which leads to extremely low FPS.

wine gives error while installing a file
When I try to install Battle.net-Setup.exe, gives me this error. This error
massage appeared a few weeks ago and I tried a lot of work-arounds but
nothing's changed. In playonlinux the installation goes to the login panel but
there's another error: Battle.net Helper.exe encountered a serious problem.

So, I notice any game that uses EasyAntiCheat tries to download some updated
info
such as:

Except, EasyAntiCheat ignores Wine's "Hide Wine version from applications" in
staging options.
If I switch the URL to 'win64' it downloads, could we have a way to override
wine64 == win64 checks?
While EasyAntiCheat does acknowledge they can support wine specific data, we
shouldn't be treating this as 'wine64' but win64.
I assume wine 2.20 and wine 3.x builds all have this issue.

I used to be able to save highlights perfectly, until a few months ago a bug
appeared that caused OW to crash or freeze during rendering.
This bug is supposedly fixed, see: bug 45622
However while it doesn't crash, it fails to save now, before it even starts
rendering it.
I wasn't sure if I should re-open that bug, as the fix is partial, or file a
new, but I guess it doesn't crash anymore so I filed a new.

It started after an update a few versions ago (4.xx branch, currently running
4.19).
When launching an application, wineconfig will initially run, prompting to
update Mono. Then it will prompt an error (see trace).
The Win application runs normally, so I guess it might not be a severe bug.

Stack trace as appears on cli
WhatsApp for Windows Desktop was released and I tried to install it.
Apparently it requires Windows 8 and greater, I've set it correctly in Winecfg.
Trying to run the WhatsApp installation (ver 0.2.684) renders the error in the
attached file.

Terminal output
Right-clicking in an empty section of the file browser causes CDBurnerXP to
become unresponsive. On Windows, this brings up a context menu.
Steps to reproduce:
1. winetricks dotnet20
2. Install and run CDBurnerXP
3. Choose "data disc" from the main menu
4. Right-click in some empty space within the file browser (top-right section)
The problem is also present in 1.2.

After the crash occurs there is a window with an error message.
It looks for a file C:\D.MIS. The game is installed in C:\Demo\.
If it is installed in C:\APPS\ then the error message says that it looks for a
file C:\A.MIS.

When user32-rawinput-mouse is being used, it's problematic to click onto other
X11 windows while a "Elite Dangerous" is running.
In detail:
1. configure "virtual desktop" mode via winecfg
2. Start EliteDangerous in Wine
3. Open a view inside EliteDangerous where every mouseclick (independent of
cursor position) will have an effect (e.g. cockpit mode -> mouse-1 fires
weapon)
4. switch to another X11 window (e.g. Firefox)
5. click onto something
When clicking in Firefox, the click also get send into the game. So e.g. the
primary weapon gets fired in the game.
Alternatively, the cursor can also positioned over an ingame button (e.g. in
the main menu). Then get another window into foreground without moving the
mouse (e.g. alt-tab) and then click. This will trigger the ingame button over
which the cursor lasted before switching windows.
Workaround:
./patches/patchinstall.sh DESTDIR=../wine-5.14 --all -W user32-rawinput-mouse
-W user32-rawinput-mouse-experimental -W user32-rawinput-hid
(user32-rawinput-mouse-experimental and user32-rawinput-hid depend on

Stronghold 2 works perfectly when placing a native d3dx9_27.dll in
$WINEPREFIX/dosdevices/c:/windows/syswow64
or by running `winetricks d3dx9_27` (the override done by winetricks is not
needed).
However when starting the game without the library present it will show many
dialog box with shader compilation errors, before crashing (see attachment 2
for a selection).
A few examples:
* Error: Unable to open include file ../PhongShader.fx
Warning: Unmatched #if/#endif at end of file
Error: Unexpected end of file during preprocessing
Error: syntax error
* Error: Unable to open include file ../PhongShader.fx
* Error: Unable to open include file ../LifeStudioHeadLighting.fx
Error: Unable to open include file ../TransformState.fx
Finally the error message “Failed to load shared effects parameter file.
Rendering may appear incorrect.” is displayed and the game segfaults.
Meanwhile a bunch of fixmes will be logged to the console (see attachement 1).

Terminal output with a crash
A few locations seem to be exempt from this bug (like My Computer), but it can
be seen in the root of the Z:\ drive. Right-clicking in an empty area of the
main listview gives a basically-correct menu the first time (compared to
Windows, the only difference is the lack of a "new" submenu).
However, right-clicking in the blank area again produces a menu with fewer
items - the topmost two items have disappeared. Each subsequent right click
removes two more items (including separators) from the top of the menu until
they all disappear and the menu doesn't pop up anymore. Occasionally, the app
will crash when trying to exit or switch to another folder afterward.
Native comctl32 doesn't help.

What about making a Wine GUI to behave more like emulators like VirtualBox.
It's extremely hard right now to get Wine in desktop mode. It would be nice if
you could start Wine as an application, which opens up a window like this:

And if you start one of those prefixes, it by default opens a Wine Desktop with
a simple Taskbar & Start-menu. Somewhere in the Start-menu could be the option
to switch to desktop integration mode. There could also be an option to run the
Wine Desktop full-screen. Like this:

I believe this would be very good for usability. Desktop mode is more stable
than seamless mode, yet it's hidden in winecfg. This kind of UI also exposes

Visio 2003 does not read the complete list of fonts present in the system.
This leads to drawings losing their fonts and forces unwanted changes in the
drawing.

The venerable AutoCAD 2000 works almost perfectly in recent Wine except for a
single issue, the properties window/panel can't be clicked on.
The preferences panel works if one clicks on it and then uses the cursor keys
to hi-light the options and then the mouse works and you can click on what you
need.
It is a bit of a shame as the program is 100% usable and works like a dream in
Wine.
(Funnily enough it is impossible to run it on a modern Windows version)
I can share a bottle with a running trial of the software if someone could have
a look at this issue.

Backtrace of the crash
When clicking on mini bridge's thumbnails bridge.exe crashes, but only does so
with JPG files.
How to reproduce:
Start Photoshop CS6, go to File->Browse in mini bridge.
Then click on "Launch Bridge"
Select a folder where you have pictures in several formats, for example PNG's
and JPGs.
Double click on the PNG files to open them in photoshop.
Repeat the operation with any JPG file and bridge will crash.
I am Running Wine 2.16 under Ubuntu 16.04.3

About everything seems to work properly except anything that needs dragging:
moving an element, drawing etc.

Heroes of Might and Magic V Map Editor is unusable due to the rendered editing
pane continually refreshing at smaller and smaller sizes until it disappears.
The editor shown in the picture attachments is the one for Tribes of the East,
but all three map editors (original, Hammers of Fate) behave similarly.
It is also notable that the map editor application takes an inordinately long
time to appear, and uses 100% of the CPU until it does. Once it does finally
appear, menus are navigatable, and the application appears to function normally
other than the constant refreshing of the editing pane. Every time the editor
pane refreshes (and shrinks), the following warning message appears on the
console:

Terminal Output with backtrace of crash.
When using Ashita with FFXI the game crashes shortly after accepting the EULA.
I've confirmed this with all the versions of wine starting from version 3.0
stable, all the way up to 3.21 staging. The only way I've been able to get the
game to launch is to compile wine myself with the following patch:

Its very easy to recreate, use all the standard AppDB info to get FFXI setup.
Download ashita from the website:

Patch to avoid GPU synchronization
One performance gap with Overwatch on Wine + AMD + Mesa is GPU synchronization
due to transfers from GPU texture to CPU texture. By using PBOs and
glReadPixels with GL_PIXEL_PACK_BUFFER, we can avoid this synchronization
leading to improved performance.
The attached patch is one approach to resolve the performance issue, but I am
not sure that it is the best way. Feedback is appreciated.
Also attached is before and after screenshots with Mesa's HUD. You can observe
that the buffer wait time decreases with the patched version. Both the before
and after screenshots are on wine-staging master plus my patch for 45723.

test program
Hi, I have a test case here that works on WinXP but not Wine. I deliberately
wrote a standalone test case because I'm not sure which unit test to put it in.
It's in fact based off of dlls/kernel32/tests/virtual.c where the other
WriteProcessMemory() test is.
In this test case, we call CreateDIBSection() which returns a HBITMAP (hbitmap)
and some memory (mem). Next, we call SetDIBits() with hbitmap. We get into
X11DRV_SetDIBits(), where it calls X11DRV_DIB_Lock( physBitmap,
DIB_Status_GdiMod );.
This marks the memory (mem) as PAGE_NOACCESS, and leaves it in that state as
SetDIBts() returns. Normally if the process tries to access it, we get a page
fault that's handled by X11DRV_DIB_FaultHandler(), and everything works.
However, when the test code calls WriteProcessMemory(), we talk to wineserver
in NtWriteVirtualMemory(). In wine_server_call(), we do send_request(), where
writev() tries to read 'mem' and fails with EFAULT. This doesn't trigger
X11DRV_DIB_FaultHandler(), and WriteProcessMemory() fails.

Junction points are one of Microsoft's answers to symlinks.
Unix symlinks could be mapped into junction points.
This would allow applications (e.g. Picasa) avoid following
symlinks if they wanted to.
Also, the .net 2 installer would be happier in winxp mode if wine supported
junction points (see bug 10601):
"The .NET 2.0 Framework installer checks if the target volume is NTFS
filesystem
type and then uses the FSCTL_SET_REPARSE_POINT ioctl (used for mount points and
junctions) to create junction points for each registered assembly in Windows
SxS directory to GAC assembly directory (link target).

I try to start FFXIV_TexTools, and then try to copy the text from the error
dialog.
FFXIV Textools, a modding tool for Final Fantasy XIV, will not launch in Wine.

It brings up an error window, and when I try to copy the text from it, the
window disappears due to a crash. If I click 'yes', I get another error window.
Clicking yes on this brings another, and then another. After the fourth, the
program closes.

dlopen() however this now causes component in question to no longer load
embedded dylibs into /lib(64)

Any commit doing “ Use standard dlopen() instead of the libwine wrappers.” will
now experience this.
Previous behavior was the ability to simply embed dylibs into /lib(64) and
wine(64) would load them as needed, now rpath is required.
Winehq packages will also experience this issue worse once the current embedded
libraries swap to using dlopen()

Program only works with wine-staging, and you need CSMT enabled to avoid severe
graphical glitches.
I'm using mesa drivers on Linux 4.14.2.
I made an apitrace of the Direct3D calls(1.4GB, 543MB compressed), linked it in
the URL field.
It used to work, but even if I downgrade everything (wine, mesa, linux) I still
can't get it to work. Might be a driver issue, but I'm not sure.
Since I don't have another Linux system I can't really test it, I'd really
appreciate if someone tried to reproduce the issue.
You need to get the windows binaries for apitrace, and then just run "wine
apitrace.exe *.trace"

I am trying to work around this bug

On Windows (10, 1607) I serialize a certificate to a buffer with
CertSerializeCertificateStoreElement, and write this buffer into a file.
On Linux (Ubuntu 16.10, PlayOnLinux, Wine 1.9.10) I read the buffer from the
file and I import it with CertAddSerializedElementToStore.
-> It fails and GetLastError returns STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION.
I had a look at the code: in crypt32/serialize.c (1.9.21),
CRYPT_ReadSerializedElement, you can read
__EXCEPT_PAGE_FAULT

So there is really an access violation.

Install VLC media player.
Start some movie/video file.
Works fine as long as vlc is running on the monitor it was started on.
If you drag VLC with a running video to another monitor, the video freezes
(sound continues).

Creatures 2 console output when starting applet
The Creatures 2 game uses special applets (executables) that connect to the
main game.
This does not work, however:

The part starting with fixme:atl:AtlModuleInit SEMI-STUB (0x40eb40 0x40c040
0x400000) at the end was on my console as I sent the rest to a text file.
May be related or not to bug 12930 (and the failure of the service to
initialize).
Both do not happen at the same time but they appeared in the same version.
I added mscoree as component because on another log (installation/repair of the
same problem) I saw that mscoree was loaded when mscorlib crashes.

Hi,
I have recently tried Al Unser, Jr. Arcade Racing with Wine, the game itself is
from 1995 so its is quite old. I was just curious. I have managed to get the
game working, but the colors is not right. The game requires an 8 bit display,
otherwise it refuses to start.
I followed the recommendations and used the following commands:
$ Xephyr :1 -screen 800x600x8 -cc 3 &
$ DISPLAY=:1 wine alunser.exe
The game starts, but the colors are wrong. As displayed in my attached image.

The distance fog effect isn't rendered properly and almost everything is white
in the game. Only the HUD, character names and the chat window is visible.
The same problem with Wine 1.4, 1.6 etc. Native d3dx9* libraries don't change
the picture at all. Disabling GLSL doesn't help either.

I just had a timeout on mshtml/events.ok.
http://test.winehq.org/data/tests/mshtml:events.html shows a number of
timeouts on at least two windows machines, so I may not be alone.

game launch from patcher
Kritika Online MMO freezes at startup. Game patces succesfully in 32-bit prefix
with ie7 installed. When I click "Game Start" empty game window opens and after

Incorrect shadow rendering
Shadows do not render correctly in "The Secret World," an MMORPG that is
getting a relaunch later this year, using Staging (CSMT) or not. There are not
settings (in the game) that change the outcome of the shadows not rendering
correctly. In addition, this was checked using several different GPUs and CPUs
to rule-out possible hardware (AMD CPU vs Intel CPU and AMD 7970/AMD R270m).
This game uses the Dreamworld engine which is also used in "Age of Conan."
The attachment shows an in-game screenshot of the shadow rendering. This is my
first bug report here.

Distorted player outlines: UseGLSL=enabled, shader detail level = very high
In Left 4 Dead, with the shader detail level set to high/very high, and
UseGLSL=enabled, there is some distortion in the outlines of characters through
walls.
At medium/low shader detail, the outlines appear as they should. Likewise,
setting UseGLSL=disabled corrects the image, so this may be a bug in Wine's
GLSL generator.

Hi,
I'm trying to get Theme Park World to start with Wine. I've set the Windows
version to Windows 2000 (as stated in bug 37802), and the game is updated to
version 2.0.
The copy protection seems to work, but after the initial splash screen is gone
I immediately get the following exception:

Background Music and Background Sounds cannot be played with Wine.
It is possible to play them in your own media player and such, and then just
choose to use the preferred file to be played when playing. It will play on
Windows machines, only it won't under Wine.
No errors occur, the sound simply does not play.
Sound Effects (SE) and Music Effects (ME) do work.
It might have something to do with the file type and media codec.

The game contains configuration options in ~/My

If I set the option 'ClothMapOnly=1' then the map is rendered properly.
The same problem with Wine 1.4/1.6.

Patch to add support for dvorak programmer's layout.
There currently is no support for the dvorak programmer's layout in wine. The
layout can be found here:

The symptom of this problem is:
In Guild Wars, if I try to bind the key with the ampersand on it (where the 1
would usually be on a standard US-Keyboard) to an action, it just does nothing,
as if i hadn't pressed any key.
The same goes for Diablo III. If I try to bind this key, it says
"!!!MISSING!!!".
Writing in these apps currently works as expected (i.e. in Chats or Messages).
I have altered the File dlls/winex11.drv/keyboard.c, and it kind of works. (see
the attached Patch)
When I press the ampersand-key in the patched version, it registers, but shows
up as "1" in the options dialog. This is no problem for gameplay, it just looks
weird.

Backtrace of a crash
I noticed that Dragon Age Origins crashes in some parts of the game. See the
backtrace attached. Its always in the same locations or sequences.
I also noticed that lowering the graphical settings can help and i can pass
beyond this crashes.
I mostly happens when many textures need to be loaded.
This was tested on AMD (radeon driver 7.5.0), nvidia ( proprietary 340.46) and
intel ( 2.21.15 ).
There are also other graphics related issues in the game like video sequences
displaying just a black screen and sometimes glitches like black textures.
I'll test it against current 1.7 release of wine if i find some time to compile
it and wipe my ~/.wine.

this bug is about one older game named "Polda".it is edited to works OK on
Windows XP and it works on real Windows XP.
But when i run it on Linux (Fedora 14, 32-bit, wine ver:1.3.11) game hangs and

Save user mode accessible device in HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices "\DosDevices\X:"
Having a CD in the drive and that one mounted it is accessible through e.g.
cmd.
But Blindwrite (7.0.0.0) does not show any drive in its user interface.
When looking into a "WINEDEBUG=+reg,+file,+debugstr" an access to
HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
appears.
There is for any device an entry e.g. "\DosDevices\E:".
This entry holds in my case the mount point of the CD as ASCII.
Blindwrite tries now to access the drive by opening this interpreted as
unicode string, which fails.

game freeze forever with a

Tried it both in 64bit and 32bit prefixes in windows 7, XP, 2000 and 98 modes

To reproduce:
1. Add yourself to the dialout (Ubuntu) or uucp (Arch) user group.
2. Log out and log back in.
3. In Starcraft, click Multiplayer, Direct Cable Connection, Ok.
The problem is that Starcraft attempts to detect which serial port is connected
by sending a burst of data on all ports COM1 through COM8. On Linux, COM1
through COM4 default to ttyS0 through ttyS3, but even though the device files
exist, rarely do all of them correspond to actual physical devices. So,
Starcraft hangs forever waiting for the write to complete successfully.

Example image of dr brain running in xephyr
Dr Brain 3 is a 16bit Windows program that requires 8bit colors. So to get it
running we have to use one of these methods

I tried every last one of those methods and every method leads to the same
result you can see in the image attached to this bug.
No error message is printed out by wine. I encountered this bug a few years ago
for the first time, but didn't open a bug report for it, since I thought this
could be a problem with the virtual X.
However when viewing images in the Xephyr session all colors are displayed
correctly.
Right now the only way for me to run this game is using dosbox with win3.1 or
another form of emulation.

I implemented the program so it waits for ReadFile to return FALSE, that's when
the input is supposed to be over:

Now that's not right anyways, but it exposes a slight difference in Wine cmd:
1) Following input hangs on Wine, but not on Windows: "echo test | find test"
It works on Wine when using "winetricks -q cmd"
2) Following input hangs on both Windows and Wine: "find test < test.txt"
Wine's implementation of the pipe | uses the redirect operator < internally.
This leads to the pipe working differently on Wine, i.e. blocking ReadFile when
it's not supposed to.
I'm not aware of a real program being affected by that, just noting.

The basic log while running wine on a copied installation of Spellforce
While trying to install Spellforce - the Order of the Dawn v1.01 a window pops
up notifying "Incompatible system configuration", followed by "Please insert
the original Spellforce CD1 into your CD/DVD-drive.".
After this, install immediately aborts and thus leaves the game uninstallable.
Copying it from a windows installation and running it generates the same error
message.
Wine produces this fixme which I think is the cause:
fixme:ntdll:server_ioctl_file Unsupported ioctl 2d1400 (device=2d access=0
func=500 method=0)
I ran Protection ID v0.6.4.0 July and it detects SecuROM 4.88.00
This is why I did not add my comment to bug #21448, since that one is clearly
about SecuROM 5.x.
I added the log as attachement, please let me know if I can run additional
DEBUG logs for more information.

Note: This is about the new Bioshock 2 version on Steam (1.5.0.019) which has
GFWL and SecuROM officially removed - no cracks have been used!
When playing single player in Bioshock 2 on highest settings, the game runs out
of memory with this message: "err:d3d:resource_init Failed to allocate system
memory."
I'm sure that I got this message as well a lot of times, but for some reason,
the message is now different:
"err:d3d_surface:surface_allocate_surface >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY"
I've set my video RAM amount in the registry to 1024 MB which is correct for my
GPU. If i decrease it to e.g. 768 MB, the game crashes a lot sooner.
See console output attached.
I tried those wine versions: 1.5.12, 1.6, 1.7.3
Tested on openSUSE 12.2 x86
NVidia GeForce GTX 460 (1024 MB RAM) using driver version 319.49

Two of my games obtained via Gamersgate digital distribution service are damned
with Securom 8.03.xxxx protection (online activation). The games are
Tomb Raider: Legend
GTA San Andreas
After installation the Securom activation dialog kicked in, requesting the
serial number. Activation was successful and the games started fine.
Much to my surprise, next time I launched these games, Securom required a new
activation. This happens on each game start (I didn't alter the wineprefix
where the games are installed in any way).
I installed one of the games in Win XP SP3 (running under Vbox): Securom works
there, requiring activation only on the first launch.
Here I'm attaching a +relay,+tid,+file,+reg debug log, hopefully someone will
find some clues in it. The log was created by getting through the activation
process (the game wasn't started at the end of activation).
I'm totally dumb at reading such logs but here's what I found:
1. Securom tries to open certain files under 'C:\users\<username>\Application
Data\DSS\Product Activation\ User Data\<very long sequence\'
The files named dss_v8_01.dat and dss_v8_01.bak. These files as well as the
whole directory structure are missing in both Wine and Windows so this can't be
the problem.
2. The corresponding Securom registry entry is located under HKCU/Software/DSS.
This contains several subkeys, most of them contain binary data, but one of
them (Meta Data\Information) contains strange things. Although this subkey can
be exported via Wine regedit, it cannot be re-imported correctly.
Here is an excerpt what this sub key contains (obtained via Process Monitor
under Windows):

Thank you for you amazing work here.
I have a bug when I try to play GTA V. This bug is related to the keyboard.
*How to reproduce it*
1. Install wine 2.9 with following components:
- d3dcompiler_43
- d3dx11
2. Run winecfg and set the windows version to Windows XP
3. Install steam
4. Install GTA V
5. Run GTA V (login to the social club)
6. Once the game has started do the ALT+TAB trick

7. Press any key of the keyboard (it works flawlessly)
8. Select the Story Mode
9. Once in game, press any key from the keyboard. Now the game is freezing for
a 2 second and it will work again. This issue is related to the keyboard,
because if you are using a controller (xbox for example) it works without any
stutter. But press a key of the keyboard and the freeze is coming (sorry for
this one).
*Observation*
- The sound is still playing
- Only the rendering is frozen

Simply run IconsExtract in Wine, search for icons somewhere, select a found
icon, and try to open the file properties for that icon. This is done either by
pressing F8 or clicking "File" in the upper-right, and then under the "File"
menu press "File Properties".
The sole terminal output is this:
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x0000000c
This is true for IconsExtract version 1.46 and version 1.47. Have not seen any
Wine version succeed in displaying the file properties.
In Windows, "File Properties" brings up the same exact dialogue as
right-clicking the file that contains the icon and clicking "properties."

It arranges the component palettes in the same order in which it read the
values from the registry (even if MSDN exlicitly says not to rely on the order
in which the values are read). We store the values in the alphabetical order to
binsearch them so the palettes under Wine are in alphabetical order instead of
the configured order.
I attach a small test showing that under Windows the values are read in the
same order as they were written.

Hello everyone,
I used to give this game Platinum ranking in the AppDB but eventually
discovered something which caused the game to crash.
I played a mission in this MMORPG and tried to contact the support team which
consists of Gamemasters which are called Advisers of Rubi-Ka. Rubi-Ka is the
planet on which the game is set.
When issuing "/petition message" through the chat window a browser is started,
the game crashes and throws a backtrace which I am attaching.

The linked demo version is in Polish, but speech is in English. Installation of
the demo is straightforward. In the main menu click on the topmost button to
start a new game.

generated debug log was 65 MB. I couldn't compress the log below 1 MB, so I

DMM Game Player is a downloader for online games (download-type) and a launcher
for browser games. It has similar functions to Steam Client.
After the install, DMMGamePlayer.exe shows the loading window and complains

AVP Gold (Retail) Installer checks for a valid CD2 (audio cdrom) by attempting
to read track information using CreateFileW against where it expects .cda files
to exist

normally in a windows environment, the root of a cdrom drive will have an .cda
file for each track which contains data about the track
since these don't exist when running the installer in wine it fails.

"make test" should usually run well.
Right now, it usually fails badly.
Right now, on my machine, it:
put up a modal dialog once (requiring a mouse click),
hung once (requiring a 'wineserver -k'),
dropped me into the debugger once (requiring a 'wineserver -k'),
screwed up my screen resolution once,
and had 22 package failures and 169 individual test failures.

When running lastest stable version 3.9 of stepmania, wine doesnt recognize
well usb events. Sometimes not at all, sometimes when i remove leg from
softpad, game detect its still there.softpad is HID device, i guess it is sure
problem for other HID devices as well.
I checked my computer, it handle HID well.
I couldnt send 2> it has almost 2 GB :) In > nothing interesting.

Hello together,
The TERA Client randomly crashes. It happens especially in crowded areas (areas
with many online players).
My System:
Linux gen2 5.1.20-gentoo #6 SMP Sun Aug 4 16:39:56 CEST 2019 x86_64 AMD Ryzen 7
1800X Eight-Core Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

When the game crashes, the launcher opens various dialogue boxes stating things
like e.g. "Insufficient RAM", "DirectX could not be found or is corrupted" or
"The client was closed abnormally". Since those error messages are rather
random, they seem to be kind of inaccurate.
Right now I'm using a fresh 32bit prefix, tried 64bit before but didn't work
either. I also use Wine-Staging.
I installed Gallium Nine Standalone and have Esync enabled, the problem occurs,
without both of them enabled, as well, though.

Patch to provide csrss heap and fake win10 heaps
Follow up to bug 45646.
Starting with win10, the chromium sandbox tries to find a certain heap that's
shared with csrss.exe. It does this by enumerating all process heaps, looking
in the internal structure for the right flags. For that it assumes the internal
structure behind the opaque handle...
We need to do 2 things here.
1) Provide a csrss heap in the first place
2) Return handles that have a heap structure similar to win10 heap behind them

A minimal test case
I am trying to use pywin32 to wait on an external process using its PID. I used
winetricks WMI. I am using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with Wine 3.5. I have attached a
minimal example of the Python script. I expect it to wait for the other process

wine terminal output running Hard Reset Redux
No videos between levels, nor starting video with developer logo etc.
In Hard reset redux, if i open Extras - Movies in main menu and select any
movie - nothing happens.
In Shadow Warrior 2, if i open Extras - Movies and select movie, screen blanks

Standalone demonstration of the issue similar to what Origin does.
When starting a game from Origin a crash dialog for BF3WebHelper.exe is shown.
Shift+right click - "Debug" seems to get another thread further, so it can
successfully then still execute Firefox.exe.
Used a self built wine-2.20 with the whole staging patch set applied.
Tried to get an idea of what happens:
- Origin calculates the entry point for LoadLibrary using the kernel32 fake dll
and the base address of its own process.
- CreateProcess with suspended flag is called for BF3WebHelper.exe
- Memory for the to be loaded dll is reserved and filled in
the new process ("...\\igo32.dll").
- A second thread in the new process is created by CreateRemoteThread using
the calculated entry point for kernel32.fake.LoadLibrary above.
- This thread crashes because it looks like in the in memory kernel32 module
is something different/uninitialized at the used entry point.
With +BF3WebHelper.exe:all crash does not happen.
(But is still not executing LoadLibrary and seems not to crash by "accident".)

Some DirectX 3 games such as MechWarrior 2, Soul Trap. etc display badly or
crash. MechWarrior 2 loads the Intro Cinematic at most and then crashes at the

After the intro movies on a new windows 32 bits prefix, there is no sound. I
tried some things (the game has a openal32.dll in the dir):
export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=d" (game refuses to load from missing dll)
export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=b" (normal no sound besides the intro movies)
export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=n" (game complained that 'Sfx error'
'Couldn't create Video Stream Sound object,, OpenAL invalid ID'.
I also tried to install a recent version of oalinst.exe into the prefix with no
appreciable difference with these combinations. Disabled still fell over,
builtin still had no sound and native still found something fishy in the
interface.

New Star Soccer 2010 crashes when you try to start a new career. You can
customize your profile correctly, but when you confirm your choices, and the
database is created for you, halfway though the process Wine crashes.
Everything else (main menu, game engine itself) works correctly. It has been
verified (not by me) that loading an already saved game (e.g. saved in Windows)
works fine, so the problem is in generating the savegame database.
The game has a debug mode, which shows that the last operation printed on
console (be it completed or still ongoing) is a 'DoLeagueElimination' (you can
choose, in the customization process, which leagues you want to be accessible
during the game). I'll attach a back trace.

wine output, up until the game shows its loading screen
The Steam version of Yotsubane's shooting game "Crimzon Clover WORLD IGNITION"
doesn't play any background music, misses most of its sound effects and the few
effects it does play are not mixed properly (most of the time they are too
loud).
I believe this bug to be OpenAL-related due to this specific line in the log:
err:winediag:IXAudio2Impl_CreateSourceVoice OpenAL ran out of sources, consider
increasing its source limit.
This bug still prevails in 1.9.23, but it has been present for roughly 2 or 3
earlier releases in the winehq-repository.

One on the "installation options" on Gentoo is 'splitdebug'.
It allows to keep debug symbols in separate files (and potentially keep them
compressed). gdb supports it (AFAICT) seamlessly. While addr2line doesn't seem
to supports it, the one from elfutils does.
I don't know where Gentoo got the idea, but given gdb and elfutils, it's likely
more wide-spread than Gentoo family.
So, would you consider adding support for it in winedbg ?

Since 081d25d4b989c732d301b786311c034132c8d7a3, "msvcrt: Use correct code page
in _write when outputing to console.", a test app (that prints a lot to stdout)
had an around 10-20x slowdown.
Before, "time wine64 ihateeh-x86_64.exe > /dev/null 2>&1" ran in around 1
second, after that commit it takes 15 seconds. (At some later point, it has
regressed further to 25 seconds. The corresponding testcase on aarch64 used to
run in 3 seconds, after the commit it takes 60, and with current master takes
around 120 seconds.)

It's something that's bugging me for a good while, and is also being mentioned
in the AppDB article for the game. As I said there it can be "worked around" by
using the commercial cedega software, which has other minor problems too, but
nothing compared to the slowness under wine.
1. download the free client using bittorrent:

2. register a free account: http://register.funcom.com/
3. Start the game, talk to the neutral recruiter at the island and take the
Wompah (teleporter) to Borealis, which will leave you in complete graphical
laggyness.
You can also notice the laggyness at the Unicorn Outpost (needs paid expansion
content), playershops in the guild cities (paid content too), and a few more
places. All of these places are frequently used by the players and visiting
them is a major pain of course, but as they're the central places in game, you
can't really get around on the long run.
It's not my system causing the lag though, as it works fine with the cedega
software.

Far Cry configuration tool allows to tweak certain game settings. When I open
any of the comboboxes, the drop-down list shows only 2 items. It should display
more items as it is the case after reverting commit
3d0be0bad8eca72e67199ebfb451150d58494ba3. See attached screenshot for
comparison.
Plain terminal output yields nothing and the free demo doesn't include the
configurator tool. Please let me know if you need debug logs.
Tested in Wine 4.2 with the GOG.com version of the game.

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04, installed winehq-staging 5.10 from WINE PPA. I'm trying to
play Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, the game was installed without any issue.
Unfortunately, every attempt at running pandora.exe fails with an old Windows
window and the following text:

There is a HXAudio.dll file in the game's root directory, and when running a

There is virtually no information about anything called "HXAudio" apart from
two old forum entries [1] [2] basically stating that there is a problem,
without any hint for a solution.

It says that "yywrap" is an undefined reference.
This probably happens because the macro.lex.l is not aware of the fact that is
can be also cross compiled, which is the thing you have to do when you want to
run wine natively on Windows, for example.
At the end of the file there is an #ifndef yywrap ... #endif: I replaced it
with an #if 1 and the program has been compiled correctly. But I guess it has
to be fixed correctly.

When installing the demo of Star Trek Armada there are bink videos installed in
the "animations" subfolder. Now when trying to play these videos with the bink
player from RAD Game Tools they show graphic issues like wrong colours and
flickering.

I'm using OpenSUSE 42.3. I start winedbg as follows:
winedbg --gdb --no-start path/to/smth.exe
Then I use Eclipse to connect to the remote port that is shown.
This results in:
- ../../gdb/infrun.c:5585: internal-error: int
finish_step_over(execution_control_state*): Assertion
`ecs->event_thread->control.trap_expected' failed.
A problem internal to GDB has been detected, further debugging may prove
unreliable.
- Text I enter in the Debugger Console (in Eclipse) is invisible
- Things crash
When I revert back to 77d65c39486ffc2b4c17aec958e361b180a029a1 these problems
disappear.
Please let me know if I should do more analysis.

Wine 1.3.20 terminal ouput of issue when typing
To join the server in Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst the user must first
register their UserID at the main screen by typing their username and password.
(typing at this point works) Once entered the user can either select an
existing character or create a new one.
When creating a new character - the last step is to give the character a name.
At this point typing suddenly stops working - no text appears and the console
is filled with this line with every keypress:

This is problem - if only for the fact that once started you can't really exit
out of the character creation process without forceably terminating the
application. We really need to be able to type the name to exit this point in
the game.
If new users can't create a character they won't be able to help in
troubleshooting bug (#12964) which is needed to get in-game.

vbsp.exe is a utility used to compile VMF map files, and is distributed as part
of the Source SDK by Valve Software through Steam.
The utility is being invoked from a command line, in the following manner:
wine 'S:\Steam\steamapps\bhspitmonkey\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vbsp.exe'
-game 'S:\Steam\steamapps\bhspitmonkey\Team Fortress 2\tf' ./outdoor
Context/output/backtrace is attached. I'm probably doing something wrong;

SORCERY JOKERS (Trial) is a demo version of Japanese visual novel game. It
doesn't run due to lack of virtual memory.
When I start the application, it shows "DirectDraw Error".
Console output shows:
wgl:init_opengl Failed to load libGL: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory
Of course, I have libGL.so.1 in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa.
strace(1) give me a hint:
open("/etc/ld.so.cache", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 16
fstat64(16, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=151363, ...}) = 0
mmap2(NULL, 151363, PROT_READ, MAP_PRIVATE, 16, 0) = -1 ENOMEM (Cannot allocate
memory)
Therefore, the process can't find out libGL.so.1.

Fresh wine compiled with gcc 4.8.0 is quite unusable. Likely, gcc is a culprit.
But nevertheless it might indicate to some very sophisticated hidden bug in
wine64, so I post a bug here.
Compilation:
$ cd wine
$ mkdir build64
$ cd build64
$ ../configure --enable-win64 --prefix=/opt/wine64 --without-xinput2
--disable-tests
$ sudo make install
$ wine64 notepad
Bus error
Further investigation has led to the following:
$ WINEDEBUG=file,ntdll,heap wine64 notepad
...
err:heap:HEAP_ValidateInUseArena Heap 0x10000: block 0x106c0 tail overwritten
at 0x106e8 (byte 0/32 == 0x5c)
.....
wine64: ../../../dlls/ntdll/heap.c:455: HEAP_GetPtr: Assertion `0' failed.

but then wine segfaults :/. Additionally, using a simple implementation:

fails in the same way.
This is the only failure with llvm-gcc-4.5 (aka dragonegg), after that, at
