Bug ID: 57682
Summary: focus tracking somewhat broken wrt. desktop switches
Product: Wine
Version: 10.0-rc5
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: galtgendo(a)o2.pl
Distribution: ---
It seems that under certain circumstances wine doesn't respect parts of
focus-follows-mouse policy.
I'm not sure if this counts as a regression, given the amount of changes that
went recently (even during code freeze) into winex11.drv.
Anyway, it's easiest to observe (for example) with Unnamed Space Idle.
If I switch from the desktop with the game window and back again, the wine
window pops up on top regardless of its z-order before the switch and the
window's titlebar indicates it has focus...
...yet, as I move the mouse within the window, the tooltip windows don't show
up for its respective elements. This holds until I either click on the game
window or Alt-Tab within this desktop.
(this is likely a dupe of bug 43691 on some level, but so many changes went in
that it manifests differently)

Usually this black window (rectangle) appears at the same place as the
minimized window. When the app window is maximized again, it covers the black
window. After several minimize/unminimize attempts, though, the black rectangle
will appear elsewhere on the screen. After that the main window unminimizes at
this new place, with its window controls (close box, minimize box, etc.)
unresponsive to mouse clicks.
SimHub (https://www.simhubdash.com) is a WPF app and requires .NET 4.8 to
function properly.

trace - bad
I've upgraded a build environment with Wine/MSVC/LLCM from Debian Bullseye to
Bookworm and unfortunately it wasn't as easy as I expected. There is a problem
with rundll32.exe that I was finally able to isolate after lot of trial and
error.
The problem is on Debian Bookworm that the rundll32.exe process that is started
never reaches wWinMain (I put TRACE() at the beginning). I'm attaching the bad
trace log from Bookworm and the good trace from Bullseye.
A simple workaround for me now is to copy rundll32.exe from Bullseye.
Any ideas what to try next? Is this a hidden bug in Wine or Mingw compiler?
(setting component to unknown as rundll32 is missing in the list)

Current version of Line app is 9.0.0.3339. And here is two problems with the
app
1. The app by itself is working correct, but I can't open any modal windows.
When I press a button to open a window, the app crashes with error in log:
`elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module`.
2. The app window borders are always on top. I can't see contents of the app if
any other app is opened in front of it but window borders and border shadows
are visible anytime. Also it is possible to click borders and resize the window
by moving mouse cursor. I will attach image with Firefox browser's white
background covered by Line app borders.
These problems exists about 2~3 years on all my 4-5 PCs for all time I'm using
wine. I seen this bug at Gnome and KDE. All OSes I used are affected (Ubuntu,
Fedora, Debian). So It should be easily reproducible.

Only black screen and the mouse pointer can be seen when starting MoO 3 with
resolutions higher than 800x600 (that's the only resolution supported by the
game, and there is no way to change it via game option). This happens both in
full-screen and virtual desktop mode. Apart from that the game is running, you
can hear the sound of the intros and the sound effect when the mouse pointer
passes a menu option, but nothing can be seen.
Workaround: either set a virtual desktop sized to 800x600, or change your
desktop resolution to 800x600 before launching the game in Wine's full-screen
mode.
In the terminal:
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32ef94,0x00000000), stub!

fixme:d3d_surface:wined3d_surface_blt Blit clipping not implemented.

The last fixme is repeated over and over again, filling up the logfile until I
quit the game. That line is not present when the game is running @800x600.

After fixing bug 30559 there appeared another one: the connection window that
is displayed on startup of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2005 Express
is taller than it should be. See attached screenshots: one is taken from wine
1.5.4 and is stretched, the other one is taken from wine 1.5.2 and has correct
height. You may also google "sql management studio" for lots of screenshots
taken under different versions of Windows. Note that under Windows there is no
gray area between app logo and Title bar and between app logo and the red
strip.
I tested the application in wine 1.5.2 with native gdiplus installed and it
looked the same way as it looks now with wine 1.5.4, so the patches are not the
source of the problem, they merely exposed a problem located elsewhere.

Bug ID: 35424
Summary: tcc fails its libtest
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.11
Hardware: x86
URL: http://bellard.org/tcc/
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, source
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: austinenglish(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
I tried building tinycc and running its tests under wine. The first problem:
------------ libtest ------------
./libtcc_test.exe lib_path=..
C:/windows/system32/msvcrt.dll:1: error: unrecognized file type
tcc: error: cannot find library: msvcrt
tcc: error: undefined symbol 'printf'
make[1]: *** [libtest] Error 1
To reproduce:
#!/bin/bash
rm -rf $HOME/.wine
wineboot
wget "http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mingw/files/mingw-get-setup.exe"
wine mingw-get-setup.exe
cd $HOME/.wine/drive_c/
git clone git://repo.or.cz/tinycc.git
cd tinycc
# Known good commit (on windows7)
git reset --hard 32a4962593d6a2006cdd725480124717e7f5377d
cat > build.sh << _EOF
#!/bin/bash
set -e
set -x
export PATH="/c/MinGW/bin/:$PATH"
./configure
make
make test
_EOF
cd $HOME/.wine/drive_c/MinGW/msys/1.0
wine start msys.bat
####
run that script. During the mingw install, select the 'mingw-developer-toolkit'
and 'mingw32-base' packages. After install, when the msys prompt appears, do:
$ cd /c/tinycc
$ ./build.sh
the same procedure works fine on native windows 7.

So this bug report might make 54189 obsolete, but I'm not sure about this.

The SketchUp 8 viewport stops being updated after a File > Save or File >
Export operation. All other interactivity (menus, toolbars, cursor icon)
continues to work.
This has affected SketchUp8 for many releases; back to 3.x at least but I've
never been able to figure it out or determine the debugging steps to generate
clues... until today!
Seems to be cross-distro (well Debian and derivatives). Currently Debian 12
Bookworm amd64 with kernel v6.12.8. GPU is:

Subsystem: Dell Cape Verde GL [FirePro W4100] [1028:2b1e]
Kernel driver in use: radeon
Kernel modules: radeon, amdgpu
I /think/ this also affected hosts using nouveau but it is a long time since I
operated a host with Nvidia GPU so may be mistaken.
Now to the clue. Using:
$ env LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose WINEDEBUG=+timestamp,+opengl,+module
WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/wineprefixes/SketchUp8 wine ./SketchUp.exe |&
/usr/bin/tee /tmp/wine-opengl.log
and leaving long pauses between each operation so as to match timestamps and
annotate them later in the log-file I discovered that after a File > Save
operation (where the application creates several new Contexts then switches
back to the original, from then onwards all GL function calls result in:
function is no-op

This is currently triggered by wintrust tests from test_wintrust_digest(). The
issue is that GetParam returns TRUE when there is no attributes to return. That
leads to malloc(0) and then attempt to read attributes from that.
I don't know how to write a proper test for this at crypt32 side, so filing a

then wait until the links in the launcher appear which can take up to around 10
minutes even on windows and then click on them and see which browser they open
on
then close the launcher, open the start menu on kde, search uninstall wuthering
waves then click on it and uninstall wuthering waves
then repeat these steps several times around 5 and see which browsers the links
open on, sometimes they open on chrome and other times they open on firefox, on
windows they always open on the default browser which i have set to chrome

After using Fighter Factory 3 for some time, window graphics such as drop-down
menus stop displaying correctly. Closing and reopening the app fixes this. I am
using Linux Mint with an NVIDIA GPU and an Intel CPU. I also use a patched exe
to fix a programming bug on all OSes that prevents you from running multiple
Mugen test instances simultaneously, so I added it as a second download link.

Nikion NX Studio is crashing with errors like the following one since commit
5924ab4c515:
0024:fixme:uxtheme:BufferedPaintInit Stub ()
double free or corruption (out)
0024:err:seh:call_seh_handlers invalid frame 00007FFFFE0FECD0

0024:err:seh:NtRaiseException Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable
to dispatch exception.
By adding enough debug logs I see that:
- In function dibdrv_RoundRect from dlls/win32u/dibdrv/graphics.c max_points
becomes 30.
- Then top_points is allocated at size 15.
- The first call to get_arc_points returns 4: count = get_arc_points( dc,
AD_CLOCKWISE, &rect, start, end, top_points );
- The second call time it is called with top_points + counter which is
&top_points[4].
- Inside get_arc_points count becomes 8: count = generate_ellipse_top_half(
dc, width, height, points );
- Then the loop to calculate points starts with pos = count and it has 4
iterations.
- The last write is to points[8+3] = points[11] = top_points[11 + 4] =
top_points[15].
- top_points[15] is beyond the allocated array and it corrupts memory metadata.

When you move your character around the game screen there are frequent pauses
both in the character and the mouse pointer movement. This makes the game
extremely choppy.
There is nothing obvious in the terminal output.
Reverting commit b712d6c8464681ca82f11cf49051401b874814c6
fixes the problem for me and movement, animation become smooth again.
Can be reproduced with Geneforge 4 demo version.
Start a new game from the main menu, get past the character generation and
intro screens. Move your character around the screen to observe the problem.

On start of the program you get get a crash (bug 56885), ignore that.
To test:
- Install the program all with default options
- Create new catalog (just press save to put it in the default folder)
- Click "Folder" in the toolbar (5th from left), select a folder.
It gives the error "Cannot open catalog file /path/to/file writing"
For best results use a clean WINEPREFIX and AFAIK it must be 64bit for the
error to happen.

Hello
This is probably a duplicate of bug 56438 but I prefer to report the bug anyway
and let you judge.
Game: "Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit"
Version: 1.1.1 (2023-10-19 10:03 (e3a16d1b8-Windows))
I have the GOG.com version, but the game is also available on Steam.
OS: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS 64bit.
NVIDIA Driver Version (proprietary): 535.161.07
Wine: wine-9.5 development version.
Default Wine configuration, unmodified.
Clean Wine directory.
Description:
- The word "Loading" is displayed upside down on the texture of the characters
(like a watermark) when they are in the centre of the screen (see screenshot).
- In chapter 2 of the game (in the grandfather's house in Lithuania), the
wooden box puzzle is not displayed correctly: the whole screen is black, making
it impossible to solve the puzzle (see screenshot).

RSAENH error, which is repeated over and over
I have an application which uses an encryption key saved in a file. It appears
to require Window's RSAENH.DLL. While the application starts as expected
(visually OK and responsive), it won't progress. It's own log file reports
"encryption key not found". Attempting to debug Wine, I see that the correct
key file is found, but there are multiple EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
code=c0000005 entries (over and over and over) when looking for RSAENH.DLL.
I've attached a sample.

1. Launch any winecfg from 9.4 up until latest rc
2. Observe touchscreen input is offset above the touch point
3. Touch is also limited to the winecfg window being in the upper left. Moving
the window anywhere else, it is not intercepted.
I have successfully built 10.0-rc3 reverting that commit and observe touch
functionality being restored.

This is a regression: worked in 10.0rc1 but broken in 10.0rc2 and 10.0rc3.
I am attempting a git bisect, but currently my compiled versions work correctly
:-(
The problem: compare the two windows:
https://www.aitchison.me.uk/wine/bad_popup/wine-10.0rc1.pnghttps://www.aitchison.me.uk/wine/bad_popup/wine-10.0rc2.png
- with 10.0rc2 the right hand side of the popup is clipped.
Seen with X11 (at least TWM and LCDE window managers) but not Wayland.
[ Unfortunately I can no longer find the installer for this program on the
internet. I believe I have a copy, but doubt that copyright would let me
put it on the web ... ]
Since self-compiled versions of wine source work for me, what is the next step
in debugging the published binary (.deb) package ?

Patch to build a winejoy application to compare on Windows.
As described in the title, the circles are supposed to fit exactly in some
bounding rectangle and they are now cropped by 1 pixel on the bottom side. This
does not happen on windows with the same code.
This can be reproduced on Wine with `wine control joy.cpl` with a
XInput-compatible gamepad plugged in, or with the attached patch.
Because joy.cpl gets overridden on Windows, I'm attaching a patch that builds a
dedicated winejoy.exe program that does otherwise the same thing. Included is a
hack that fakes XInput gamepad to be plugged in.
The blamed commit is the same as bug 57306, but that commit seems to be about
crashes and memory corruption which doesn't look like the same problem.

A log from a run that crashed
A regression has appeared that causes the game Obduction to hang a bit more
than 50% of the time, usually on the opening screen, or during the loading
screen or in-game.
After two minutes, a message will pop up saying the GameThread timed out
waiting for RenderThread, and the game will exit.
There were already errors relating to textures and shaders covered by #52235,
but those errors didn't cause the game to hang. Since this commit, a fairly
large proportion of those preexisting errors have been replaced by these two
errors instead:

screencast demonstrating the problem
Tested with the Steam version, no demo available.
When the game launcher appears menu options are hidden underneath grey
rectangles.
As the mouse pointer passes over a button it becomes visible (see example
screencast).
Terminal output doesn't show anything related.
The problem is reproducible in the traditional fullscreen and virtual desktop
mode as well.
The bug is present since

Hack
Mostly for bookkeeping, I have it on my ToDo somewhere, although feel free to
take it. But please mention when you want to work on this.
The installer tries to use rundll32 to let a dll generate the config. The exact
commandline is
> trace:rundll32:wWinMain CmdLine=L"C:\\users\\fabian\\Temp\\GeForceNOWInstallerTemp\\GeforceNOW\\NvConfigGenerator.dll ,GenerateConfigs
Notice the space before the comma, that's what causes the problem. Wine doesn't
handle that properly.
Attaching a hack to work around the issue.
Warning:
It seems like you need to set that byte to 0 (see patch). Just skipping the
space lets it find the function, but it won't work due to being passed
unexpected parameters!
Also be aware, that the installer also tries to call system32/rundll32.exe
which is 64bit with a 32bit dll. So to test this, you need to take that into
account, else rundll32 will fail to load the dll, nevermind load the entry
point.

On Windows, 'shift' is an internal command, and 'shift.exe' is an
external command.
Wine's cmd mistakenly thinks 'shift.exe' is a synonym for 'shift'.
This makes it somewhat hard to play EA's Need For Speed: Shift.

On Windows, OUT: is the special device and doing:

On Wine, "OUT:" file is created.
This should work similar as for CON: (which works fine in Wine):

Summary: Winecfg DPI issue with games

I have an NVIDIA card and a 4k screen
To make my wine apps readable I use winecfg Graphics tab and set the DPI to
192, which works great for windowed desktop apps, but as soon as I run a game,
it only shows the top left of my game and crops the mouse area even smaller
than that. I changed the DPI back to 96 (default) and they work as
expected/intended.
This even occurs if I use a virtual desktop.
The other issue with 4k screens on NVIDIA is it can't mode set at all, I need
to preset the mode using xrandr and pass the new res to the virtual desktop. If
I leave it to change the mode itself, 8 get a black screen and it powers the
screen off. I can get the terminal back by pressing ctrl + alt + F2. Or get the
login screen with ctrl alt backspace. But nothing else I do can change the mode
back or turn the screen back on.
So to be clear, I need to sety wine DPI to 96dpi and preset my screen res to
run games (full screen). I do not get the same issue on my NVIDIA graphics
laptop and I don't on AMD graphics. Just my 3060to and a 4k screen.
I no longer have a 1080p screen to test if that works. But changing my desktop
to 1080p doesn't fix things except for games that are 1080p. 800x600 and
1024x768 will cause the black screen issue.
I noticed that wine v9.0 (mint v22 default) doesn't have the doi glitch 9ny 4k
screen. It does still have the black screen bug if I don't pre modest.

Summary: Siemens Solid Edge 2025: Not drawing SVG ribbon UI
icons, software unusable

Log from launching of Edge.exe to exit
I am on Fedora 41, latest stable at the time of this report(Dec 18, 2024).
Running Siemens Solid Edge 2025, everything launches and the software works,
aside from the occasional crash, but the UI seems to be using SVG icons which
do not render at all, making the software completely unusable.
Steps to reproduce:
1 - Obtain an installer for Solid Edge 2025. Unfortunately I can't provide a
direct link as Siemens does not, but you can obtain the installer online
relatively easily. Piracy is NOT needed, and you do NOT need a license. Just
the original, legitimate installer is all that's required. The Community
Edition version is based on 2023/2024, which does not have this problem, and
therefore is not suitable for reproduction. You need specifically the latest
2025!
2 - Disable wbemprox.dll, or the installer gets hung up on something(bug,
trivial/minor, not important).
3 - Run setup.exe, follow the installation process.
4 - When setup is done, remove the wbemprox.dll disablement.
5 - Run /Program/SELicWiz.exe, select the Free 2D Drafting mode.
6 - It will execute a Powershell script (stub?) to modify the registry. Change
the following key to what it tells you it wants to be set as:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Environment\SE_LICENSE_SERVER
7 - Run /Program/Edge.exe once or twice. It will complain about not having a
license once(bug), then on the next launch it will pick up the free 2D drafting
mode and launch in that.
8 - Create a new draft, that's the only option you'll see.
9 - Observe the ribbon menu not having any icons visible. The buttons light up
on hover, but there are no icons, and as they're icon-only, it makes the
software unusable.
I believe this is the important bit in the log:
0024:fixme:dxgi:DXGID3D10CreateDevice Ignoring flags 0x20.
0024:fixme:d2d:d2d_device_context_CreateSvgDocument iface 00000000097EBEE0,
input_xml_stream 0000000009CDDE00, svg_document 0000000000A1C460 stub!
0024:fixme:wincodecs:FormatConverter_CanConvert Unsupported source format
{6fddc324-4e03-4bfe-b185-3d77768dc900}
The problem lies somewhere in wincodecs and/or d2d1, which appear to have stubs
for SVG rendering.
Installing DXVK via winetricks changes nothing.
Swapping binaries around from 2023/2024 breaks the software.
The icons it's trying to load are located in
/Program/ResDLLs/0009/RibbonImage.drx - there are SVG and PNG versions, but
cutting out SVG ones doesn't seem to change anything. It's an empty resource
DLL.

terminal output
After starting a new game from the menu, the game seems to be stuck in an
infinite loop at the 'Building the town...' stage.
Can be reproduced with the demo (non-Steam).
The game needs .net2.0, xaudio2, native d3dx9_43 and d3dcompiler_43.
Native gdiplus used to be a workaround (now the game crashes with native
gdiplus, see bug #41926).

Debugger output with multiple threads stuck in spinlocks.
SUMMARY
Under the wrong circumstances, a program doing many memory allocations from
multiple threads can
experience more than 100x performance degradation.
I'm seeing this in my own Rust program, which has 16 sometimes-compute-bound
threads on a 12 CPU machine. This works fine on Microsoft Windows and when
compiled for Linux. Under Wine, it can be over 100x slower.
Multiple threads are banging on a spinlock at
_InterlockedCompareExchange
[Z:\usr\src\packages\BUILD\include\winnt.h:6630] in ntdll
spin_lock
[Z:\usr\src\packages\BUILD\dlls\ntdll\sync.c:937] in ntdll
This is the spin lock around the queue for pausing threads.
DISCUSSION
This looks like futex congestion. That's a known kind of problem, but doesn't
seem to have
been seen in Wine before. It may be that some programs just run really slow
under Wine,
and nobody knows why.
The code in NTDLL is clearly intended to handle the fast case without doing an
OS-level lock. Under light load, that's O(1). But under heavy load, with
multiple threads pounding on spinlocks, each spinlock waits longer, and there
are multiple threads, so it becomes O(N^2). Which means huge slowdowns.
See discussion at https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=37688 which has
snippets of the code that's causing the problem. I can copy all that info over
here if necessary. Let me know.
