NFS Underground +dinput log on wine-8.4
Hello,
So NFS Underground (and other NFS games from the same era) have keyboard input
issues since wine-8.5 (which rewrote a lot of dinput code)
When you first open the game in wine-8.5, you'll see that the mappings are
completely different (if you set ones previously)
Also there's a good chance when you set a mapping that it will disappear the
next time you load the game
Or the mappings that managed to be saved may not actually work in-game for some
weird reason
If you switch to wine-staging the problems get worse (the arrow keys just stop
working in the menu)
I haven't tried to bisect yet though (I'm a bit too lazy), but I'll provide
both wine-8.4 and 8.7 logs with WINEDEBUG=+dinput set
Note: The 8.7 log will be added in a comment (Bugzilla limitations?)

Summary: ImgBurn crash at startup when Wine's 'Windows Version'
is set to 'Vista' (or newer)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.22
Platform: x86
URL: http://www.imgburn.com/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lightning_uk(a)imgburn.com
I've had a bunch of crash logs sent to me over the past year where ImgBurn
crashes unrecoverably on startup when users are running it under Wine but was
never able to reproduce the error until today.
It turns out that if Wine's 'Windows Version' is set to 'XP' (default and what
I'd always been using) everything works fine. The second it's changed to
'Vista' (or newer), the app crashes at startup.
I've managed to get a crash call stack via madExcept / Eurekalog and have now
traced the problem back to the 'Explorer' style component it uses in the 'Disc
Layout Editor' window ('TVirtualExplorerTree' by MustangPeak). It looks like
it's related to namespace stuff and therefore the shell?
I've made/attached a Delphi demo app with a single form and single instance of
'TVirtualExplorerTree' to hopefully make testing and debugging this issue a
little easier.
Without fail, it'll crash when Wine's 'Windows Version' is set to 'Vista' but
it's fine as 'XP'. I'm using Wine in Ubuntu 11.04 for testing.
The programs (ImgBurn and demo app) work fine on a real Windows XP, Vista or 7
installation.

Wine terminal output after a crash
I'm running Arch Linux with Wine 8.4 from the Arch repository on an AMD Ryzen 7
5800X with an AMD ATI Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card.
The Lord of the Rings Online game client randomly closes/crashes during
gameplay with the following message as the last output from Wine:
01b8:fixme:faultrep:ReportFault 000000000011E500 0x0 stub
I've been using this install of LotRO for over a year with no issues. However,
I tried creating a new Wine prefix and reinstalling the game from scratch.
I run the following winetricks to get all of the game client's functionality to
work:
winetricks d3dcompiler_43 d3dx11_42 d3dx11_43 winhttp corefonts
I'm also using dxvk 2.1
Nothing else is changed from the defaults.
Everything worked fine up through Wine 8.0. However, those were TKG builds of
Wine. I switched to the Arch build of Wine to test if the issue was the TKG
build of Wine.

When the user attempts to compose character while the cursor is in the middle
of the text box, Rich Edit moves the caret to the _end_ of the text before
inserting the the newly composed character(s), instead of keeping the current
cursor position.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Activate fcitx5 (Hangul).
2. Enter the following text: "ABCXYZ"
3. Move the cursor (caret) to the middle of the string: "ABC|XYZ"
4. Compose a character.
Expected behaviour:
The composed character should be inserted between "ABC" and "XYZ"
Actual behaviour:
The composed character is inserted after "XYZ" and the caret moves to the end

Log file of the game crashing/hanging
--The game
The popular version of this game is a community edition that includes mods :
https://soku.delthas.fr/
--Launch the game(with mods)
The right executable file is th123e.exe.
In order to launch the game correctly with the mods, it is needed to either use
DXVK or either add a d3d9 lib with winecfg and use WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d9=n,b",
as mods are injected through the d3d9.dll file inside the game folder.
You can check that mods are injected correctly by going in the "Vs NETWORK"
menu, if mods are injected correctly there will be a hostlist menu, if not it
is a IP and port connecting menu without hostlist.
--The dpad mod and expected behavior
https://hisouten.koumakan.jp/wiki/Mods#DPad_Fix
This mod is enabled by default and can be disabled by placing a ; in front of
the line DPadFix= inside SWRSToys.ini, the mod config file.
Without this mod, only joystick are usable, with it, dpad and joystick are both
usable, you can test that in the game main menu.
--Current behavior
The game crash because of this mod, other mods don't.
This was seemingly fixed around wine 7, but supposedly since wine 8 it crash
again.
Recently tested with wine and wine-staging 8.7. The mod still works with
lutris-fshack-7.2 and recent wine-ge based on proton 7, but not proton 8.
The file attached is a log file of the game crashing/hanging.

BrokenClient
I provided code for 3 different programs as attachment which represent
extremely scaled down code of a bug I tried to find in a proprietary program:
BrokenServer and BrokenClient are both C# programs created for .netCore 3.1
(x86).
BrokenServer creates a socket, tries to bind it to port 41811 and ends up
accepting all incoming connections on this port inside an infinite loop.
Broken Client tries to connect to the socked opened by BrokenServer and ends up
in an infinite loop(seems important!?).
TestCode is to test what is actually broken in Wine: It runs a BrokenServer and
3 BrokenClients using CreateProcessA() and waits for getchar(). After that it
stops all 4 processes using TerminateProcess() and immediately restarts the
BrokenServer using CreateProcessA(). The server tries to bind to port 41811 but
unlike on Windows it (almost) always fails to do so, showing a MessageBox with
the information that the port is already in use.
As mentioned before, the infinite loop in BrokenClient seems to make a
difference because I never encountered this issue without it.
I wasn't able to recreate this problem with native code.
Everything was tested in a clean prefix with .netCore x86 desktop
("windowsdesktop-runtime-3.1.10-win-x86") installed.

Summary: Unreadable CDROM disk freezes wine

I'm trying to recover data from an almost unreadable CDROM disk. I have been
running ddrescue non-stop for a few days now and data is slowly being
recovered. This means the CDROM drive is permanently busy at all times with a
disk that is unreadable and unmountable under normal circumstances (this is
important).
When I try to launch a wine application via Wine I find that Wine attempts to
access the CDROM drive, I can hear the CDROM drive making noises as if
starting/stopping but nothing ever happens, can hear the drive clicking as in
starting and stopping, the wine application I'm trying to run never start, I
can see some wine .exe processes in D state, I guess waiting for the CDROM
drive to become available.
I can see this in the console:
0058:err:sync:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 000000006CDCB040
"dlls/mountmgr.sys/device.c: device_section" wait timed out in thread 0058,
blocked by 0064, retrying (60 sec)
It seems that when a drive is unreadable or inaccessible wine freezes and
continually re-tries access to the drive.
This also means that Wine interferes with ddrescue when trying to access the
CDROM drive, because the disk is unreadable and both applications try to access
no Wine application ever starts, and if it does (winecfg) it freezes, so I end
in a situation Wine doesn't work and it bothers ddrescue.
Is there a way to start Wine applications making them ignore the CDROM Drive?
In the Wine control panel I can get rid of the Z drive for example but not the
CDROM drive...
I also tried to go into the Wine prefix under "dosdevices" and removed: d:: ->
/dev/sr0
Then tried to link d:: to /dev/null but wine recreates the link to the drive as
e:: -> /dev/sr0 and tries to access the CDROM again.
Is there a way to tell WINE not to use a device? as in ignore /dev/sdr?

Hello folks,
as it says. I know this information can be retrieved tracing processes with
Wine 'gdi' debug channel.
https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/56e7cd12ce0ce3bb331a8595b25aedb…
Currently investigating bug 23221 where the application massively leaks GDI
handles. App bug, most likely unrelated to the actual problem of the ticket.
I wanted to see the leakage in a realtime-view with absolute values, leak rate
per second, changes when doing certain UI actions. It's possible to extract
that from Wine trace logs as well using timestamps and filtering for specific
messages but it takes way more effort to associate the leak rate with certain
UI actions (controls).
Multiple tools provide that information in a convenient way. Unfortunately they
rely on the shared handle table being exposed.

Summary: SNES9x DirectDraw display not refreshed correctly when
menus shown
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.23
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://files.ipherswipsite.com/snes9x/snes9x-1.53-win3
2.zip
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown

ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 43440
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=43440
Showing refresh problem #1
I'm testing with Wine 1.5.23, SNES9x 1.53, Lubuntu 11.10 x86-64, Nvidia driver
304.64.
There is a small issue with the way the SNES9x DirectDraw display is refreshed.
When you browse the menus, as you move from menu to menu the previous menu area
is cleared to black, instead of showing the emulated game.
There was a change at some point between Wine 1.5.18 and 1.5.23. With 1.5.18
all "old" menus remained onscreen (see
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=42660), so the current behaviour is
better but not perfect.
To reproduce
- Download and unzip SNES9x.
- Download a SNES ROM, e.g. from
http://pdroms.de/files/supernintendoentertainmentsystem/skipp-and-friends-p…
- Run SNES9x. Select File->Load Game... and select SAF.smc
- Currently the default Direct3D output gives an empty/black window (bug
32319). So change to DirectDraw output: select Video->Display Configuration...,
change Output Method to DirectDraw and click OK.
- Click on the menu bar to browse the menus. As you move from menu to menu,
notice that the region which was occupied by the previously-shown menu is
black.

Currently, wine uses a slightly outdated version of d3d12.idl header. The main

vkd3d. I created it because it's kind of a blocker for:

terminal output of mentioned commands
On Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with Kernel 6.1.14 I have encountered the problem that no
matter what application I run through wine with or without prefix wine creates
dbus connections until none are available and no further application can be
run. This happens over multiple hours of runtime (2 - 12).
I have attempted reinstailling system and looking for the issue on the internet
but the former did not help and I couldn't find any mentions of the same issue
on the latter.
My motherboard is MPG X670E CARBON WIFI (MS-7D70) with AMD Ryzen 9 7950X CPU.
The issue seems to be with explorer.exe as it is the thing creating dbus
connections. I can kill it and run applications after; it disables shared
clipboard but otherwise seems stable.
Output of "busctl | grep explorer" is attached in "busctl-grep explorer.txt."
Output of "wine winefile" on clean wine folder I tested is attached in "wine
winefile.txt"
Please mention if I should or can provide any other information as the issue
makes it difficult to properly utilize wine.

That is probably my patch,
https://www.winehq.org/mailman3/hyperkitty/list/wine-devel@winehq.org/threa…
.
Unfortunately, the patch was broken due to PE conversion.
I'm still working on this issue and MPEG Video Decoder filter. Because, in most
cases, movies aren't played back without the decoder.
Hopefully, the fix will be ready for Wine 9.0.

the problem was first sighted on wine-7.15-staging, but still happens on later
versions using wine-staging. the games i have tested(as this error appears with
some games and not others) will load on a clean wine, but errors out when using
wine-staging. This after testing some patches appears to be caused by
ntdll-Junction_Points, and removing/disabling that patchset will allow the
games to run(after also disabling some patchsets that require
ntdll-Junction_Point to be enabled).

ME3Tweaks Mod Manager, the mod manager for the Mass Effect game saga, doesn't
launch on version 7.0.7.125, the latest at the time of writing. All previous
versions launch as expected.
Reproducing the issue is simple: download the program (links below), install
it, and attempt to launch it.
An interesting difference in the logs is in the second line. I don't know if
it's relevant.
On 7.0.6 (the working version), it's:
0310:fixme:seh:WerRegisterRuntimeExceptionModule
(L"C:\\users\\user\\Temp\\.net\\ME3TweaksModManager\\LyZyGpfEln90Fkxp5ZGXmnrlwemKAtA=\\mscordaccore.dll",
0000000180000000) stub
And if you look in that path, mscordaccore.dll is there.
However, in 7.0.7 (the broken version):
010c:fixme:seh:WerRegisterRuntimeExceptionModule
(L"Z:\\home\\user\\ME3-7.0.7\\drive_c\\users\\user\\Documents\\ME3TweaksModManager\\mscordaccore.dll",
0000000140000000) stub
And mscordaccore.dll is not in that path, nor in that Temp folder from before.

To preface this, Wine cannot normally run the Roblox Player unless a tool, like
Grapejuice (https://gitlab.com/brinkervii/grapejuice), is installed so Wine can
launch the application from the Roblox website.
Whenever the Roblox Player connects to a game, there is a ~5 second window
where the application will work properly until the client is forced to
disconnect by the server. When this happens, a box with the text "Disconnected
| You have been kicked due to unexpected client behavior (Error Code: 268)"
appears. This error code only appears when the application detects that an
external application is modifying the application(Ex: Running Cheat Engine's
debugger triggers this error). Wine in this case is being treated as a sort of
exploit in the case that it's trying to modify the application somehow.

All backgrounds fail to render, replaced by plain blackness instead.
The terminal doesn't seem to provide much helpful out, but I've attached it
regardless.
According to the terminal, this may be a duplicate of 9127, but the normal work
around steps (winetricks quartz, wmp10, allcodecs) removed the quartz fixme
messages but not the problem.
Would love to put up a more helpful output, if I knew which WINEDEBUG flags to
use.

Bug ID: 54941
Summary: Invalid symlinks when building --with-wine64 in a
container
Product: Wine
Version: 8.8
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: build-env
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: fcasas(a)codeweavers.com
Distribution: ---
When building Shared WoW64 wine within a container (e.g. using podman), using
the 3 steps listed in the wiki:
1. Enter your 32-bit chroot or container (see above about setting a chroot or
container up)
2. Do a completely normal 32-bit build of wine
3. Do a second 32-bit build, still in the chroot, with both your 64-bit build
and the tools from your first 32-bit build
The 64-bit version of Wine fails to detect the injected 32-bit libraries when
run from the host system. Because the injected symlinks point to absolute paths
that only make sense within the container and not in the host.
wine64$ ll loader/
...
lrwxrwxrwx 1 fcasas fcasas 35 May 15 09:54 wine -> /root/Builds/fxc/wine32
lrwxrwxrwx 1 fcasas fcasas 45 May 15 09:54 wine-preloader ->
/root/Builds/fxc/wine32/loader/wine-preloader
Since the 32-bit libraries are not detected, the current version of wine falls
back to "starting in experimental wow64 mode".
This triggers errors such as:
0154:err:environ:init_peb starting L"Z:\\home\\fcasas\\my_exe.exe" in
experimental wow64 mode
0154:err:module:load_wow64_ntdll failed to load

0154:err:seh:NtRaiseException Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr

when running a 32-bit executable.

Axis 5 (Rz) is always disabled on Sony PS3 controllers and third party PS4
controllers.
Confirmed with Microsoft DirectX SDK (June
2010)\Samples\C++\DirectInput\Joystick.
Rz is always enabled on Joystick.exe (DXSDK2010) on Win8.1, jstest-gtk on
Debian and evdev-joystick on Debian.
On dinput on wine, Rz is always disabled.
In many games that use dinput8, the right stick moves funny on its own.
If I'm missing something, please let me know in the comments.

I just built both 32 and 64-bit wine-8.7 and I am not getting any sound in-game
without directmusic-override. Are you getting sound in-game (not just in the
installer) without using winetricks or any other overrides for directmusic
(clean Libraries-tab in winecfg)?

Mini-game with clickable bubbles
In one of the mini-games you are supposed to click bubbles with numbers in them
falling from the top of the screen. The bubbles appears as expected, but when I
click on them nothing happens (they are supposed to pop but they just keep
falling).
The cursor is visible and works everywhere else in the game, but not in this
particular mini-game.
I have no idea of what type of logs might be relevant but I'll happily supply
them.
This is an old game (1996) for Windows 3.1->Windows 98 (and Macintosh), but I
am not certain about what engine it uses.
The game is installed in a clean 64-bit prefix with Windows version set to 10.
The game is played in fullscreen 600x480 (native).
No winetricks nor other overrides.
My setup:
Kernel 6.1.26-1-MANJARO
i9-10900K
RTX 3070 with driver 530.41.03
Budgie desktop

I'm using wine-staging 1.9.20.
When you set Hover! to fullscreen, it sets the display resolution and fills up
most of the screen as it should, but it's set under top bar in GNOME, resulting
in several rows of pixels from the bottom of the application also being outside
of the display.
I confirmed that Hover! does cover the task bar in a Windows VM.
There's nothing really in the logs, except for a weird
"fixme:process:LoadModule Strange error set by CreateProcess: 193", but that
shows up before setting fullscreen.

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance (the latest version from GOG.com) works
pretty well (just without dual monitor support) with Wine up to 5.18 (tested
with 5.4, 5.8 and 5.17). Unfortunately after upgrade wine-staging 5.18
(wine-5.18-2.fc32.x86_64) there is no sound at all. No sounds in game, no
music, even a cinematic intro has no sound.
I tried with some other games with 5.18 and sound works fine.
I don't see anything special regarding sound in a default Wine logs. How could
I debug that problem to make it easier to find a reason?

I guess, it would work. First you need to make sureyou have a 32bit wine prefix
(https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#How_do_I_create_a_32_bit_wineprefix_on_a_64_bit…)
which most of you probably have. I got the windows installation to run in win98
mode.
After it is installed wine tries to run the programm using dosbox.
Most likely it would work, but currently in my case it's terminating since it
wants a CD Drive.... I will try a bit more, whether I can motivate dosbox to
fake a CD drive....

This is specific to the 32-bit tests and impacts all Windows 8+ versions.
However the failures don't happen when the test is run on its own so they are
probably caused by interference from another test.

Patched winedbg attempt
Winedbg loads the wrong debugging info for dlls where a native dll exists in
the prefix and the native dll is replaced with the built-in version.
For instance the lpImageName in the DEBUG_EVENT struct contains the path to the
C:\Windows\System32\somedll.dll but it is replaced with the built-in version
from the build directory (in my case) that is actually mapped in to memory. So
in this case winedbg loads the debug symbols from from the system directory and
not the one that is in the build directory.
However it looks like if calling NtQueryInformationFile with the file handle we
get the correct name to the loaded dll. See the attached patch how I solved the
issue.

Wine-1.6-rc4 build warnings excluding missing glyph warnings
I have added an attachment consisting of the warning messages generated by
configure, make, and make install for my recent build of Wine-1.6-rc4 using gcc
(Debian 4.7.2-5) 4.7.2. This list of warnings was created as follows:
./configure .... >& configure.out
make >& make.out
make install >& make_install.out
grep -i warn *.out |grep -v "missing glyph" > wine_build_warnings
I have excluded the 1665 (!) glyph related warnings from
this list, e.g.,
make.out:warning: Courier 13: missing glyph for char f8925
because I assume those have something to do with missing system fonts on my own
system and nothing to do with Wine. The remaining 110 warnings consist of
76 "may be used uninitialized" warnings which should probably be looked at but
are likely not too serious and 25 "array subscript is above array bounds"
warning which sound more serious. There are also 9 miscellaneous warnings.

I'm not sure whether this is an issue in winelib or nvcuda, but the the file

strange to me, so I report this here. Let me know if this is not suitable.

Since upgrading my Pop!_OS 22.04 system from Wine-8.0 stable to Wine-8.0.1
stable, in the classic flightsim IL-2 1946 version 4.13.4, none of my game
controllers (CH Pro Pedals, HOTAS Warthog dual throttle & VKBSim MCG_Gladiator
joystick) are detected by IL-2's controller GUI. Previous to this upgrade under
Pop!_OS, they had all been detected & were working fine. I also run Wine 8.0-1
under Linux Mint 21.1; & so far it has not exhibited this problem with the same
game & version; but I am concerned at some future point it may also.

Unfortunately the trial does not contain the OP movie, so you need the full
version to test this yourself.
The OP plays after Chapter II. You could just hold left-ctrl for a few minutes
[the last scene of chapter II is set at an art gallery, so one you hit that,
you know you’re close], or I can attach a savegame from right before if you
prefer.
According to VLC, which plays the video perfectly, it’s in Windows Media Video
9 (WMV3) + Windows Media Audio Lossless (WMAL) format (please suggest a tool
that can extract more detailed info about the video if you think that might be
useful).
In-game, the video plays, actually, but there’s no audio during video playback.
The bigger problem is that when the video ends, the game gets stuck at a white
screen that doesn’t seem to accept any input; the in-game audio resumes just
fine.
Transcoding the video fixes the audio, but not the hang on video exit.
Moving the video file [movie/oe45xltvh.dat] out of the way will allow you to
progress at least.
The mfplat component is a mere guess based on the log. Sorry.

BuddyLauncher is a Japanese online activation DRM "solution" required for some
commercial games, the client is available from

I know DRM is tricky, and I'm not holding my breath, but considering the last
update was in 2011 and it supports everything back to 98SE(!) I thought it
might be simple enough to at least report it.
The installation completes without a GUI error message, but it's obviously not

Regression SHA1: 81cd178ae1baea33212acf7d7e8e65d354e50492

This is about a bug in the original Homeworld, can be reproduced in the demo
and the patched v1.05 game version as well.
When changing screen resolution or selecting a different renderer in the video
options menu the game hangs with 100% CPU usage after clicking the <accept>
button to apply the change.
Bug #23714 describes a problem when changing resolution, the difference is that
I can't reproduce the problem in Wine 1.2/1.4, the problem appeared in Wine
1.5.8 for me.
The first commit that broke the game (so that it crashes when changing
resolution):
commit 81cd178ae1baea33212acf7d7e8e65d354e50492
Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org>
Date: Mon Jun 25 21:51:16 2012 +0200
winex11: Move ChoosePixelFormat implementation to opengl32 and base it on
DescribePixelFormat.
Then came (Wine 1.5.17)
commit 449deda62fea5f18676e3e109e7f4c4f455b6b40
Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org>
Date: Thu Nov 8 11:56:06 2012 +0100
wined3d: Link directly to opengl32.
and the game hangs since then.
To reproduce the problem in the demo:
1. install the demo and start the game with homeworld.exe
2. in the main menu go to <Options> -> <Video> menu and choose a different
screen resolution/renderer and click the <Accept!> button.

terminal output for 8.3 without/with DXVK
The given URL links to the free trial version / demo of the game; the full
version behaves identically.
Use unzip -I shift-jis -O shift-jis to extract the ZIP, to avoid garbling the
filenames.
Run サクラノ刻第I章体験版.exe; you'll probably want to set LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8.
1. Start game.
2. Wait until you get the regular UI [it's just a few seconds, but you can
press left-ctrl to speed it up a bit].
3. Save the game.
4. Note that the thumbnail doesn't show the screen you're on but is all-black.
If you examine the "savedata" directory, you'll notice that there's an
all-black PNG alongside the save file; in other words, it seems to be the
capture that fails.
Installing DXVK into the prefix "fixes" the issue.
That's why I chose the d3d component, by the way. I hope that was the right
thing to do; if not please accept my apologies and reassign.
[Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS, official wine-devel packages from the WineHQ repo,
pristine separate prefix]
