You need (amongst others) to modify /etc/hosts to play multiplayer with
DirectPlay. You need to set your hostname to your local ip adress instead of
the loopback address. You should come up with a good solution to this that
doesn't require people changing their /etc/hosts file. It should work
"out-of-the-box". Please!

http://www.neoaxisgroup.com/wiki/Tutorials/NeoAxisUbuntu
says that the NeoAxis 0.57 demos run on Wine-1.1.5.
However, when I tried
http://www.neoaxisgroup.com/downloads/NeoAxisEngineNonCommercialSDK-0.57.exe
or
http://www.neoaxisgroup.com/downloads/NeoAxisEngineNonCommercialSDK-0.58.exe
with wine-1.1.9, installation hung with the following output:
Compiling 1 assembly:
Compiling assembly C:\Program Files\NeoAxis Engine Non-Commercial SDK

Error compiling C:\Program Files\NeoAxis Engine Non-Commercial SDK
0.58\Game\Bin\Renderer.dll: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070004
This failure happened regardless of whether I installed lots of
packages first with winetricks (as they recommend) or just dotnet20.
It also happens when I try the wine-1.1.5 packages from winehq.
You can reproduce the hang with the command
wine C:\\windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v2.0.50727\\ngen.exe install
"C:\\Program Files\\NeoAxis Engine Non-Commercial SDK
0.58\\Game\\Bin\\Renderer.dll"
There's a +relay log of that latter command at http://kegel.com/wine/log1.rz

Please retest with wine-1.4rc4. My patch
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commitdiff/21e47e905e2d1f1206344a83e3…
allows midiStreamClose to be called from within DriverCallback, which may help
HoMM too. waveOutClose or midiOutClose are still unsupported.
Damjan, is your analysis in comment #7 complete? Is it really wail.32 which
calls SuspendThread or would wail32 call midiStreamStop which used to call
SuspendThread prior to my patch?

I have been trying out both Miditzer and Hauptwerk programs using wine and they
seemed to generally run ok. But now I have upgraded to the latest version of
wine 1.142 they both can't find the audio driver device, and produce no audio
at all.. I have tried enabling both alsa and oss drivers in the wine
configurator panel and this doesn't help. I'm using Mandriva 2010.
I have also tried to re install both programs but this hasn't helped.
Miditzer is program to allow the simulation of a Wurlitzer pipe organ and
Hauptwerk is a program to allow a simulation of a Church Organ.

Summary: Ventrilo 2.1.4 is unable to to open codec stream
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.0
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ivan88(a)centrum.cz
Ventrilo 2.1.4 cpomplains about not being able to open codec stream (msg610)
even though msgsm32.acm is in /system (/system32) and system.ini has correct
line for it.
Wine 1.3 (and 1.1.44) seems to come whith codec installed and .ini set, but
Ventrilo cannot find it or open it. Replacing pre-installed msgsm32.acm with
original Windows XP file (which has different checksum) does not make it work
either, it is still unable to open codec stream (error 8).
I have compiled and checked Wine 1.1.25. This version does not have neither its
own msgsm32.acm file nor line for it in system.ini, but works when these are
supplied manually.
So, what I report is basically that known trick to run Ventrilo does not work
anymore with newer Wine versions.

Nvidia gfx card with the proprietary driver 290.10.
Attachment #38872 (in bug #28404) fixes the problem for me.

Summary: Serious Sam can't find install CD
Product: Wine

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tethys(a)gmail.com
I've been running Serious Sam under an ancient version of Wine (0.9.46)
for quite a while. To avoid having to dig out the CD every time I wanted
to play it, I copied the install CD to disk, and configured Wine to treat
that as a CD-ROM drive. This all worked perfectly, and at startup, Serious
Sam found the install CD present, and ran as expected.
However, I recently upgraded to Fedora 11, complete with a shiny new Wine
version. However, Serious Sam now can't find the install CD at startup.
I've checked in winecfg, and it's still there, mapped as drive D, and
marked as being a CD-ROM.
My home directory is NFS mounted, and hence identical between the version
of Wine that works and the one that doesn't.
It may or may not be relevant, but I've gone from a 32-bit OS (albeit on a
64-bit machine) to a 64-bit one.

On attempting to run Dustforce, I get the following messages:

Note that there is a d3dx9_43.dll present in the same directory as
dustforce.exe, and that dll is for 64-bit (while the .exe 32-bit). I've
checked, and the dll is also present on a Windows machine where the game runs
correctly.
This used to work, but it appears the problem was introduced by a game update,
not a Wind update.

Hello everyone,
Wine can't open the program after it has installed it correctly..
In fact, when opening it via GUI method (meaning: using the application menu,
graphically ), it doesn't open at all..it just seems to be loading something,
but then stops and nothing is shown on the screen.
Therefore, I had to open it via a terminal by typing:
wine /...path.../app.exe
(at first it didn't open because of a DLL file missing, called MFC42.dll, but
then I found it and resolved that error)
when starting it this way (via command-line), the first image of the program
appears....but it fails to start, and two error boxes appear:
-one big box on top, titled "Program Error" (which is very very similar to a
Windows XP well-known error message), and says: "The program Q5.exe has
encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience."
-another box titled "Application Error", which says:
"Exception EExternalException in module ntdll.dll at 0002D7B2.
External exception C0000025."

Note: to reproduce this bug you need a (sadly non-free) Metaboli account!
First download and install the Windows version of Firefox. Open it and log in
at the Metaboli homepage (I use the German one but the steps should be similar
for the French and English versions). You will be asked to install the Metaboli
Player. Installation works fine in wine-1.2-rc7. After restarting Firefox you
will be notified that a new add-on has been installed.
Log in again at the Metaboli homepage. Choose any game and push the "Download"
button. Click on "My Games". The game will indeed appear in the download
section but the download itself never starts. It justs sits there forever. On
Windows the download usually starts immediately.
After the second log in the following four lines are repeated every few

Bloodrayne2 after patch (misplaced text in the menus)
Still present in Wine-1.4-rc4.
Attachment #38872 (in bug #28404) fixes the problem almost completely: text is
now visible both in the menus and during gameplay. The loading screens, which
were black previously, is now showing an image and text.
The only remaining problem is that menu options are misplaced. Whether this is
due to the patch or a different issue I don't know. This doesn't affect
gameplay: as far as I can tell, text in mid-game looks good and positioned
correctly.

Glad to know you could solve it. And yes, I can also confirm the problem with
loading/saving.
Saving works fine most of the time (it has crashed a few times) but loading
*never* works. It crashes with an unhandled exception.
This is the only thing keeping me from playing STEINS;GATE as everything else
works perfectly; but having to start from the beginning in such a long
text-based game makes it useless.
I hope someone has been able to find a workaround for this problem.

Thanks for your solution. Unfortunately it did not resolved problem with wine
1.3 and 1.4, but it had suddenly worked perfectly with 1.2. Anyways I still
can't overcome inevitable crash on save loading (though Q, W hotkeys usage
resolve this problem... well, partly... sometimes).

Summary: 4Story stopped working due to a new cheat/hack

Since the patch on the 22.07.2009 for the German 4Story, the game no longer
starts. After clicking "Start" in the launcher, the game just displays a small
dialog box containing the text "###" and an Ok button.
Presumably, this is due to a new cheat/hack detection system that the new
version of 4Story comes with.
If anyone can suggest what to do to give more insight into the situation (like
tracing function calls etc.), I'm open to suggestions.

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bogstad(a)pobox.com
With the 1.3.20 release, after the first time you click on something in
the game; the mouse pointer goes wacky or disappears entirely. The program
uses its own mouse pointer image. I did a "git bisect" between 1.3.19 and
1.3.20 and this commit is "responsible" for the problem:
commit a59c7cc8596b658d3c0854a737528cf60947ac1f
Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org>
Date: Wed May 11 12:30:03 2011 +0200
winex11: Automatically clip the pointer when the foreground window is
full-screen.
The game automatically goes to full-screen when it starts so it sounds
relevant.
Pointers to what kind of logs (and how to generate) which would help with
debugging this would be appreciated.
I don't think it should matter, but I'm using Xephyr as the X server to work
around a 24bit color issue with this program. Everything worked fine with the
wine 1.3.19 release.

Winmm now deadlocks at exit when it failed to play a sound concurrently.
Use my MCI shell from bug #20232, comment #10:
wine wintest.exe mcishell
open z:\usr\share\sounds\ekiga\newmessage.wav alias nm
open z:\usr\share\sounds\ekiga\ring.wav alias ri
set nm output 1
set ri output 1
play ri from 0 notify
This will use "plughw:0" instead of "default" on ALSA. Now copy&paste these 2
lines at once:
play nm from 0
play ri from 0 wait
The first sound will play while the second one gets:
err:winmm:WINMM_OpenDevice Activate failed: 80004005
mci.c:1326: Test failed: mci play ri from 0 wait error: 265(9

Everything seems normal until you try and exit the shell with ^Z or ^D.
mci.c:1332: GetLastError: 1
mcishell: 12 tests executed (0 marked as todo, 1 failure), 0 skipped.
But the program does not exit. Hitting ^C leads to:

Cannot get info on module while no process is loaded
No process loaded, cannot execute 'echo Threads:'
Bug #28042 too is about loader.c deadlocks. But here it's at exit, not DllMain

Note that for the bug to trigger it seems essential to "play ri from 0 notify"
once successfully.

In MS Paint, the right-click drawing function seems to be a little bit buggy.
Holding down the right mouse button and drawing works as it should, producing a
line in the alternate color. However, when the button is released, this drawing
continues as if it was still being held down. It only stops when the left mouse
button is clicked.
The version of MS Paint I used is the one from Windows 98 (not SE, if there's a
difference). AppDB test results suggest this also affects the XP version of
Paint, but I haven't tested it myself.
With a clean wineprefix, running paint, reproducing the bug, then closing the
program produces no terminal output whatsoever.

It really makes no sense to do this just because a surface happens to be

the surface between the CPU and the GPU when the application does e.g.
multiple colorkeyed blits to the current render target to draw a HUD.

Screenshot of the intro window
Hi,
This bug relates to ShutterFly SmartUpload 2.2 under wine.
Quick description of SHutterFly :
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=5595
The major problem is that all the images and icons are corrupted. It
looks that apart from that, the application is usable, but clicking blind on
icons is not very productive.
The first attachement is how the intro window looks like. The corruption
is quite obvious. The middle icon leads to the main upload window, the
screenshot in the second attachement also shows the corruption.
The third attachement is the start of log of running the app.
I got exactly the same results with 0.9.42 and 0.9.44.
The ShutterFly app is free, send me an e-mail and I'll send you a copy
(3MB).
Thanks...
Jean

In SigmaPlot 9, 10 and 11, the y-axis label is rotated 180 degrees and shifted
to the lower left of where is should be. This problem is not related to bug:
14527 90º rotated text not shown, as the problem still persists in the
current wine version 1.1.2. This problem has been present for the past 3-years
at least.
A demo version of the program can be found at
http://www.systat.com/downloads/?sec=d008
The demo version of SigmaPlot 11 will all install. I had the best success with
win version set to Win 98. However, in order to get the program to run, you
need to install DCOM98 and then the program functions properly. At this point
problems with ole errors are eliminated but the DEMO version will not work do
to a problem with the temporary license. To get around this you need to copy
the SigmaPlot folder (demo version) from a windows machine (huge pain I know)
and then everything works.

Bug #: 29667
Summary: Dragon Age: Origins DVD authenticity checks fail
(DVD_LAYER_DESCRIPTOR big endian values need to be
converted host endianness before being returned to
caller)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.37
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ntdll
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: focht(a)gmx.net
Classification: Unclassified
Hello,
continuation of bug 26459
After all DVD structures are correctly byte-padded, the DVD authenticity checks
still fail.
The loader checks various fields in the DVD_LAYER_DESCRIPTOR returned from
IOCTL_DVD_READ_STRUCTURE.
DVD_LAYER_DESCRIPTOR description (there are several similar online resources):
http://www.osronline.com/ddkx/storage/k306_3mia.htm
--- snip ---
typedef struct _DVD_LAYER_DESCRIPTOR {
UCHAR BookVersion : 4;
UCHAR BookType : 4;
UCHAR MinimumRate : 4;
UCHAR DiskSize : 4;
UCHAR LayerType : 4;
UCHAR TrackPath : 1;
UCHAR NumberOfLayers : 2;
UCHAR Reserved1 : 1;
UCHAR TrackDensity : 4;
UCHAR LinearDensity : 4;
ULONG StartingDataSector;
ULONG EndDataSector;
ULONG EndLayerZeroSector;
UCHAR Reserved5 : 7;
UCHAR BCAFlag : 1;
UCHAR Reserved6;
} DVD_LAYER_DESCRIPTOR, *PDVD_LAYER_DESCRIPTOR;
--- snip ---
The problematic part are the following fields:
--- snip ---
StartingDataSector
Specifies the first block that contains user data. This member can have one
of the following values:
Value Meaning
0x30000 An initial block value of 0x30000 indicates that the media type
is DVD-ROM or DVD-R/-RW
0x31000 An initial block value of 0x30000 indicates that the media type
is DVD-RAM or DVD+RW
EndDataSector
Specifies the last sector of the user data in the last layer of the media.
EndLayerZeroSector
Specifies the last sector of the user data in layer zero. If this media
does not use the opposite track path method and contains multiple layers, this
value is set to zero.
--- snip ---
"Text" version of SCSI Multi-Media Commands - 6 (MMC-6) PDF:
http://hackipedia.org/Hardware/SCSI/Multimedia/SCSI%20Multimedia%20Commands…
A bit hard to read due to formatting, I reformatted the relevant clause:
--- quote ---
3.8 Bit and byte ordering
This sub-clause describes the representation of fields in a table that defines
the format of a SCSI structure (e.g., the format of a CDB).
If a field consists of more than one bit and contains a single value (e.g., a
number), the least significant bit (LSB) is shown on the right and the most
significant bit (MSB) is shown on the left (e.g., in a byte, bit 7 is the MSB
and is shown on the left; and bit 0 is the LSB and is shown on the right).
The MSB and LSB are not labeled if the field consists of 8 or fewer bits.
If a field consists of more than one byte and contains a single value, the byte
containing the MSB is stored at the lowest address and the byte containing the
LSB is stored at the highest address (i.e., big-endian byte ordering).
...
--- quote ---
These ULONGs need to be byte-swapped (host endianness) before being returned to
caller.
The internal info string (containing formatted DVD_LAYER_DESCRIPTOR values):
"DVD-ROM, ReadOnly, OTP, 2, 0x30000, 0xfcffff, 0x22577f, silver media, ,"
The game loader code verifies the "StartingDataSector" value against 0x300 and
0x310 which fails because Wine doesn't do endianness conversion.
Code:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/f082eac97c3ec71de58eea85bb4de5a1…
Wine's "__APPLE__" code already does it right, using OSReadBigInt32() for big
endian to host endianness conversion.
Code:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/f082eac97c3ec71de58eea85bb4de5a1…
With that fix in place at least the DVD_LAYER_DESCRIPTOR data is now properly
verified.
The internal info string will now look like this:
"DVD-ROM, ReadOnly, OTP, 2, 0x300, 0xfffffc00, 0x7f572200, silver media, ,"
Though it still fails - another bug ;-)
Regards

1) Open a jpeg image
2) Create a new layer
(This forces Photoshop to default to saving as a PSD. You should be able to do
anything that can't be saved as a jpeg instead of creating a new layer instead)
3) File-->Save As...
4) Use the pulldown tab to select JPEG.
5) Click the Filename field.
6) Hit Home to unselect ".jpeg"
7) Type a filename
8) Hit enter to save the file.
At this point, Photoshop saves your file with the name ".jpg" (it starts with a
., so it's hidden, but it's there. You'll notice is more the second time you
try it in the same folder, and Photoshop asks you if you want to overwrite the
file named ".jpg"
Workaround:
If you stop at step 7, click the filename field and hit Home again, then hit
enter, Photoshop will save your image with the correct filename.

winealsa.drv patch to enumerate all software (slave) devices from .asoundrc
I found a similar bug report. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4438
But it was created for the old version, so I decided to create a new one.
I just was looking for a way to make possible play sound from WINE to ALSA
software (slave) device other than "default". I found the settings in the
registry, but it seems that for the new versions they are not used.
So, I wrote a patch that allows you to select the ALSA software (slave) device
from control panel, along with the hardware devices.
I'm not so good at programming. Perhaps the code is not so clear and beautiful,
but it works for me, and maybe someone wants to send it to the repository, or
to correct and send a corrected.

Hello, I had the same problem with STEINS;GATE: the game crashed when the OP
movie started. Luckily, I found a work around for recent Wine 1.3.4 installing
quartz and ffdshow (should work with earlier versions but I haven't tested
yet):
1. Use winetricks to install quartz; this should register the native quartz and
devenum DLL.
2. Use winetricks to install ffdshow. In ffdshow installation, *make sure you
select MPEG1 and MPEG2 in the list of formats to decode!*. I used libavcodec
but libmpeg2 should work too.
This fixes STEINS;GATE for me. It also fixes the crash in Ever17 opening, but I
get only audio. STEINS;GATE works fine.
It's weird though, as the rotating satellite in the title screen (which is also
a video) works fine without ffdshow. I don't know if it has to do with Wine not
being compiled against gstreamer, but it'd be nice if the videos could get
decoded by the native libavcodec.
Let me know if it works.

The Problem for the patch is not related to this bug IIRC:
--- snip ---
- todo_wine okChildPath("longPath", path);
+ /* strip the .so extension for comparison */
+ if ((extpos = strstr(path, libext))) *extpos = 0;
+ okChildPath("longPath", path);
--- snip ---
is needed because we get the path with ".exe.so" ending in wine.
I can remember that i tried to write a patch that lets wine execute winelib
apps if a native one isn't found, but that is quite hard it seemed.
e.g. if you want to run test.exe and in your path is only test.exe.so it isn't
executed atm, fixing that would make my test happy...

ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com

Tried working around bug 29509 by using a commandline build of wine.
Sadly, Visual Studio 2005 and later no longer have an Export Makefile option,
so you have to use devenv's /Build option.
I found a buglet in msvcmaker and posted a patch,
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2012-January/110405.html
I then tried a non-gui build as follows:
1) tools/winapi/msvcmaker
2) wine ~/.wine/drive_c/"Program Files/Microsoft Visual Studio
8/Common7/IDE"/devenv wine.sln
3) File / Save All (to export the .dsp's in the new format)
4) wine ~/.wine/drive_c/"Program Files/Microsoft Visual Studio
8/Common7/IDE"/devenv wine.sln "Win32 Debug" /Build
This created about 103 .obj's (for static libraries), plus
dlls/*/Output/Win32_Debug/BuildLog.htm
indicating that it tried to run winebuild.exe.
Since this file doesn't exist, every .dll build failed.
devenv did eventually complete, though it seemed to be sitting doing nothing
for a couple minutes at the end.
Workaround: build winebuild.exe with mingw, then copy it down into an
Output/Win32_Debug directory.
See http://kegel.com/wine/wow.html for notes on how to do the mingw build.

Title screen of Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor
This bug prevents Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor from being playable.
>From my AppDB report:
What works
Game seems to start, smoething that looks like a failed attempt at displaying
the title screen shows. Mouse seems to work, Alt+F4 to quit works.
What does not
Display is completely broken. Everything is squeezed into the bottom-right
triangular half of the screen, and the squeeze is "perspective correct" so to
say. It looks like a projective transformation of the original screen rectangle
into a degenerate quadrilateral with left edge collapsed at the bottom left
corner. That hints strongly at a borked projection matrix somewhere.
The problem started occuring probably somewhere during the 1.2 release
candidate phase, and is still present as of 1.3.5.

3. Launch AOE2 Trial
4. Start a Single Player game, for example: Single Player -> Random Map ->
Trial Costal Map
It's a good idea to set the difficulty level to "Easiest" if you are not
familiar with the game (so that you won't be defeated by computers before the
screen freezes ;-))
5. (OPTIONAL) Press F11 to enable game clock (the clock will show up at the
top
left corner)
6. Wait for the screen to freeze. (Screen will freeze at around 6:XX to 18:XX
if game speed is set to "fast")

Using Noteapd++ 5.9.3 (doubt it matters though) as my dogfood text editor.
Noticed this today with several files open. To reproduce, open notepad++, and
make several files. Close the first one in the list. The other entries shift to
the left, but the artifacting from the last in the list isn't cleared, causing
a ghost effect.
Native comctl32 works around it. Not sure what logs would be useful, nothing
shows in terminal.
It's a pretty small download, around 8 MB, so shouldn't be hard to test. But if
you'd prefer logs, let me know.

Patch to make dinput effects support INFINITE.
According to the DirectX reference, IDirectInputEffect::Start accepts INFINITE
(aka -1) for the number of iterations. Some games actually use this. However,
passing -1 to Linux via input_event results in no effect being played at all
(at least for me).
I've made a simple patch that sets the number of iterations to the maximum
signed value allowed when INFINITE is passed. I think this should work in
practically every case.
Tested to work with Metal Gear Solid 2.

SR3D Builder (see in the AppDB here:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=11802 ) is an
LDraw based advanced 3D virtual LEGO construction and testing environment,
currently still under development (this bug is valid as of version 0.5.5.2).
This bug pertains to the fact that SR3D Builder will currently only install
(and even then, questionably) when DotNet2.0 is installed via Winetricks, and
that trying to run it results in a Directx-d3d related Unhandled Exception, the
cause of which is most likely to do with SR3D's apparent dependence (according
to its website) on the update at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2da…
, which itself does not install on WINE 1.3.1
I'd much prefer to be able to use this as the only LDraw app that is
functionality-wise and user-friendliness-wise a viable alternative to Lego
Digital Designer. I need to use LDraw-based apps from start to finish for the
best and most efficient output on my models, complete with LPub instructions.
However, I'd rather not have to purchase MS Window for the privilege.

Bug #: 29808
Summary: mingw32-g++ random crash compiling a wxWidgets app
since git change
764b85511c72ab9e4b4ab456c98e0e71b4aa4009
Product: Wine
Version: 1.4-rc2
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msvcrt
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: zaskar_84(a)yahoo.com.ar
Classification: Unclassified
I usually build Windows' binary and installer for my projects from my linux
laptop with wine. I've just found that since some change between wine-1.3.32
and wine-1.3.33 it gives random errors when compiling zinjai.exe. The problem
still persist in 1.4rc2 and current git version (tested a few minutes ago).
mingw32-g++ output is the following:
mingw32-g++ -O 2 -I"../MinGW"/wx/include -c mxFlowCanvas.cpp -o
../release.w32/mxFlowCanvas.o
mxFlowCanvas.cpp:823: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See <http://gcc.gnu.org/bugs.html> for instructions.
there's no other wine message in the output.
The step where the error appears (for wich source file it crash) is not always
the same, it changes if I reboot the system.
I've made a binary search in git tree and I found that the change that
introduces the problem seems to be:
764b85511c72ab9e4b4ab456c98e0e71b4aa4009: mscvrt: Don't use fputc in flsbuf
implementation.
To reproduce it you can download zinjai for windows (this is the project I'm
trying to compile) from http://zinjai.sourceforge.net, install it (full
installation, with wxWidgets and fuentes checked) and try to compile it again
with a Makefile.wine that you can find in zinjai/src. I use mingw32-4.4.0 and
wxWidgets-2.8.3, both included in zinjai's installer, so you only need to
create a "mingw32-g++" script that calls ming32-g++.exe with wine (or modify
the makefile to set the correct command to call mingw32-g++.exe from zinjai's
mingw installation through wine), an run "make -f Makefile.wine" in a linux
terminal from zinjai/src.
In case it help, I'm running wine on a multilib slackware64 13.0 based system,
with kernel version 3.2.0-rc7.

I am using Wine 1.1.15 from Ritchie's Ubuntu repository on Ubuntu-amd64.
I cannot get Adobe Photoshop CS2 to install. It get stuck on the setup screen
where it asks for the user's name and serial number:
"The following information must be entered before installation ..."
If I fill in the name and organization fields and choose "Install 30-day trial
version", the next screen tells me that "0 This is not a valid serial
number..."
If I actually type in a serial number, it will tell me that "#########
This is not a valid serial number..."
So, I cannot install with a serial number, and I cannot install the trial
either. I downgraded to ubuntu~1.0.1 and still had this problem.

Two applications in particular have been affected thus far:

- Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
but thus far I have not had an issue with any other.

Hello friends. I appologize for disturbing you, I hope I'm not doing anything
wrong by posting this thing here, but, I decided to try.
I've been using Debian for about a year, and I've got a bit of a problem with
an electronic dictionary which is very dear to me, since I work with texts...
It's the Houaiss Portuguese Dictionary, made for Windows.
All the other dictionaries I use run perfectly well in Wine, but this one has
got some kind of strange bug. Sometimes, when I open it, it appears as a
minimized window at the panel below. If you then click on it to maximize it,
instead of a full screen window what you get is only a very narrow strip of
window. If you click on its right-hand upper corner in order do maximize it,
nothing happens. All you can do is close it. Then, if you run the programm
again, the same thing will happen, no matter how many times you try. If you
uninstall the software and re-install it completely, usually the same thing
happens!
A friend of mine wrote a script for me which has helped, since with it I
usually can make it work again, but it's always a little bit annoying, since it
doesn't work immediately, and you have to run the scrip a thousand times before
the moody dictionary decides to work.
The scrip I've been using to fix the problem runs as follows:
#!/bin/sh
cp -a ~/.wine_working/* ~/.wine
echo "old good wine restored..."
I'm no expert al all, as you can see, so if you could help me (and probably
other portuguese speakers who use this dictionary) to definetely solve this
problem I'd really appreciate!
I thank you very much for your attention and help!
Zac

This might be a bug in "LineTo".
Any call to "LineTo" or "Rectangle" or "PolyLine" should force a refresh.
Currently a call to LineTo on its own does not update the screen in WINE but
does in Windows.

Hate to add more noise, but I fixed my own issue. Not sure if this will cause
issues again with crashing, but the HUD mod needs a fairly large section added
to make the scoreboard visible.
See: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1329454
Not sure how to make this consistent with the one already added as an
attachment here. Perhaps someone that knows what they're supposed to be looking
at can tell us. So far it seems to work fine with the additions from the link
above.

Unfortunately this bug seems to exist still, at least as of wine-1.4-rc2. It
basically makes the game unplayable for me because the crashing is so random
and frequent.
I tried the HUD modification as a possible work around but it causes the fonts
on the scoreboard (when you press tab in-game) to be invisible. Perhaps it
relies on a font I don't have? I did install the MS core fonts, so not sure
what's going on there.

I'm pretty sure this is not a pulseaudio issue as it's been occurring for
years, though I haven't reported it until now.
In Full Tilt Poker you can hear a few sounds - a slight ding when it's your
turn, the sound of cards being delt, and chips stacking. In Wine, however,
they stop completely after about 4 or 5 hands have been played.

That is probably a different bug due to recent sound changes with PA. I
experience crackling in wow pretty regularly now too, but it's a pain to do a

Bug #: 29744
Summary: STALKER-SoC/CoP hangs at splash screen due to OpenAL32
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.37
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: openal32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: roland(a)rptd.ch
CC: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Classification: Unclassified
Starting STALKER-SoC using wine 1.3.37 results in the splash screen shown and
then the game hangs. Testing shows that if openal32 is overwritten to be
"native" and an OpenAL32.dll from the Internet is used (overwriting
OpenAL32.dll in bin directory) the game runs and can be played albeit there is
no sound output.
So there are two bugs:
1) "openal32" set to "builtin" => game hangs at splash screen
2) "openal32" set to "native" + replace OpenAL32.dll => game playable but no
sound
Could not get further information about the problem. Debug output of wine shows
nothing helpful. Looks like the builtin OpenAL is broken and causes the hang
most probably on initializing the sound system somehow.
Testing system is GenToo amd64. Installed system openal is
media-libs/openal-1.13 . No Pulsed-Audio is installed. Sound output with ALSA
works. Sound output with DSound works (tested on various other games). Only
OpenAL32 seems to be affected by this bug.
STALKER-CoP does not run no matter with or without setting "openal32" to
"native" so most probably a special OpenAL32 would be required to get at last
in-game.

To reproduce:
1. Deselect Outlook when installing to get around bug 25476.
2. Start Excel. When the activation wizard comes up, click cancel (bug 25478)
3. Install urlmon with winetricks to get around bug 25492.
4. Try to open an xlsx file. Excel will throw up an error message that it found
unreadable content in the file and ask if you want to recover the contents. If
you click yes, it will tell you that the workbook cannot be opened or repaired.
Word and Powerpoint behave similarly, though the wording of their error
messages is slightly different.
I don't have a workaround for this one. I tried winetricks msxml3, msxml4, and
msxml6, but they did not help.

To reproduce this start the console with 'wine wineconsole cmd' and then type
'winepath c:' in the wine console.
The usage will be displayed in the terminal in which you started the
wineconsole instead of in wineconsole itself. This is because winepath uses
regular Unix stdio functions like printf() instead of WriteConsole().
See the XCOPY_wprintf() function in programs/xcopy/xcopy.c or the output_*()
functions in programs/net/net.c for a model on how to fix this.
After fixing this, verify that running 'winepath c:' still works fine in a
regular xterm or equivalent.

pol.exe refresh problem when in windowed mode
In windowed mode, when you move app's window that only part is visible, then in
this partially visible state is not correctly updated.
1) Probably nobody can explain that better than Henri
I think what happens is that the blit is rejected because it's partially
outside
the screen. While moving the window to the outside that isn't very noticeable,
but as soon as you move it back you see the now cleared parts of the window
that don't get updated until the window is fully inside the screen again.
2) Another test scenario:
When app's window is only partly visible and then resized, it becomes black.
Attachment shows the 1st test scenario (they are probably related, thus in one
bug report).

The winmm player is kept busy for several seconds after audible rendering ends.
This is easily reproduced using my MCI shell from bug #20232, comment #10.
Issue these commands to the MCI:
open 8k8bitpcm.wav alias 8 ; any sample with at least 2 seconds of data
play 8 from 1000 to 2000 notify ; play sample from position 1s to 2s
play 8 from 1000 to 2000 WAIT
status 8 mode
I recommend to use a multi-line copy&paste to the console instead of typing.
The MCIWAVE player will correctly play 1 second worth of data. After that
however, a random amount of upto 4 messages about ALSA pcm underrun are sent to
the console, approx. 1 per second. It's only after those that the player
eventually stops, i.e. execution of the synchronous command ends.
The command "status 8 mode" serves to show when execution of the previous
command ends.
I suspect the cause is the way mmdevapi handles silence and/or feeds too much
data into the "default" ALSA device. I have no idea where that 1s log message
spacing comes from.
Expected behaviour (as in 1.3.24): the synchronous (WAIT flag) player is kept
busy for 1 second, after which the MCI shell processes the next command. Upto
one ALSA pcm underrun log message is the norm, since indeed WINMM is closed
only after all buffers (headers in waveOut* speak) have been returned to the
app, i.e. there's a tiny gap between "played last header => Set Event" and
waveOutClose. I.e. one underrun is designed into the WINMM API, after playing
ends.

As I mentioned before. I did clean install of wine, at ubuntu 11.10, then
installed Fallout 2, and everything worked out of box like a charm. Even cursor
who had some issues in the past.
I've tested it with NVIDIA 9600GT with 275 driver (quite recent).
I would recommend to close this ticket.

If that's depth readback, I think that makes sense. I wouldn't expect that to
be terribly fast on Windows either though.

just a clarification regarding the performance - I've foud who kills it. It's
the "Z Read" option at the very bottom of the graphic options (you have to set
the Graphic detail to "Custom" in order to see it).
With the option enabled I get average 10 fps. When it's off, I get 86 fps with
all options set to max and in 1366x768 screen res.
Have a nice play

Fixed in 1.4-rc1 (was still present in 1.3.37).
Now it's possible to run the game in hardware accelerated mode.
The performance of WineD3D is terribly poor, however - the game runs smoothly
in SW mode, even with highest gfx settings. In order for it to be playable in
HW mode, one has to turn off almost all gfx options and play in the lowest
screen resolution. But this is not related to this bug report.
As for me, the bug can be finally closed.

Bug #: 29496
Summary: Mouse doesn't release when moving/resizing Steam
window
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.36
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine(a)placesthroughtime.com
Classification: Unclassified
The Steam window, when resized or moved shortly after changing tabs, ex. from
Store to Library or visa versa, will act as though the mouse has not been
released after it has been and will remain in its state of resize/move window.
Possibly also related to this, shortly after starting steam and attempting to
move the window occasionally the mouse will stick but the cursor will move
itself to above the Steam window and any attempt to move back within the window
will force it away from the cursor.

Bug #: 29122
Summary: Sonic R has rendering (color keying) issues in
Direct3D mode
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.32
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://www2.sega.co.jp/download/pc/sonicr/sonicr.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor

ReportedBy: RandomAccountName(a)mail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Regression SHA1: c8901d6f6253f6c97610eb1068ac4ff89758ed0a
When Sonic R is run with the Direct3D renderer, it has some rendering issues
(various objects have a green background instead of transparent) as seen in
this screenshot: http://appdb.winehq.org/appimage.php?iId=9421
The DirectDraw renderer works without this problem. According to bug 21878,
comment 5, it's a regression caused by:
commit c8901d6f6253f6c97610eb1068ac4ff89758ed0a
Author: Stefan Dösinger <stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at>
Date: Fri Jun 9 19:36:12 2006 +0200
ddraw: Rewrite most of ddraw using WineD3D.
Attachment 36962 from that bug fixes the issue.
The demo has the same problem. It will most likely crash on startup due to a
game bug unless the CPU power available to it is limited somehow, e.g. by
running a program with high CPU usage while starting it.
