Application crashes (something to do with OLE 16/32 split)

I'm using the app Powersim (a Win 3.1 app). It loads fine but when I open an app it crashes. Mike Hearn said it may have got something to do with the OLE 16/32 split. Windows version handling

Hi, I reported a crash some days ago, triggered when WritePrivateProfileString is called with a NULL lpFileName. I was advised to test windows' behaviour, which I did. The call behaves differently on Win9x/Me and WinNT/2K/XP. Should I model the patch after this ? If yes, is there an internal Wine mechanism to deal with windows versions, or should I just call GetVersionEx ? Thomas

I think we should keep the sidebar links internal to the site. I don't want those links to take you off site. Its better to have the download.template, as not ALL of our downloads will be hosted there. Ie, I want to keep the links to CodeWeavers and Trasgaming as alternate versions of wine. JACK is a sound server, like aRts or esound. It's good for low latency work but is Linux specific. I think Wine supports aRts as well, perhaps that should be on the list. At some point, somebody needs to merge in the improvements TransGaming made to wininet (their copy of the dll is based on lgpld code) at which point we'll have a dep (hard? soft?) on OpenSSL too. Hi Andrew, I was warned at the time that the return code of this class of functions had particularly crack-like properties, however a test case on Win98 and WinXP appeared to show that this was the right code. Clearly however it caused a regression, as a few days ago I also saw a problem with 16 bit file open dialogs no longer showing directory lists. Can you confirm that ChessBase Light is a 16 bit app? The file open dialog should look like an old win3.1 dialog if so, rather than a 9x/NT4 style dialog. DCOM/DCE/RPC

Dear all, in issue 170 of your weekly newsleeter, I read about your difficulties to get at the specifications for DCOM/DCE/RPC wire protocol. I think that the following information might be of some interest to you: 1. There is project named FreeDCE on sourceforge. As far as I saw most recent CVS entries are about 21 months of age. 2. I found the following article which describes how to build a DCOM client on Linux using FreeDCE: http://www.idevresource.com/com/library/articles/comonlinux.asp This article also confirms that the wire protocol is the same RPC protocol that FreeDCE implements. The example client does not use the NTLM authentication, so it could connect only to a server that is configured to grant access/launch without authentication. 3. The samba project has an rpcclient that can list printer drivers, remote shut down a machine and more things. It uses authentication and so I suppose it implements NTLM.
