Hi Tony, Just lately, I've noticed that AppDB seems to be very slow, i.e it can take15 seconds or more for a page to come up or simply to login. Is there a bandwidth problem or is the server getting overwhelmed or is it a problem at my end (UK). 30 seconds later it's back to being very responsive as if the server was a bit overloaded for 30 seconds or so. Other websites I try at the time work fine including winehq. Is winehq on a different server ?
I have noticed this too and it is very annoying. Yes www.winehq.org qpdb.winehq.or and bugs.winehq.org are all on the same server.
Winehq and bugzilla are quite snappy but the AppDB is a pig now.

Are particular pages slow? I'm not seeing slow page loads to the main page or to an application version page from here, a few seconds for each.

Yes, ditto. Logging in to do admin tasks, but not only that, if I click on the link in an email from somebody that has posted to the WoW 2.0.x page it will take 30 seconds for the page to appear.
I just posted some replies to the wow page and then clicked on the link in the email and it took 84 seconds for the page to appear. It find it seems to be more frequent now, maybe every other page or 1 in three pages are very slow.

Correction it seems to be bad at the moment, the last 4 pages are slow, 60-90 secs before they display, and now it's back to < 2seconds to display a page again, it's like some process on the server hogs the CPU for 60 secs intermittently.
Nick
Weird I'm on dial-up even and goto the same pages, and all around the wine sites, all the time, and they load surprisingly fast.

Do you click on the links in the emails received from appdb@winehq.org to take you to the posts on the WoW AppDB page ? That's where I often see the problem. For instance this is a link to your recent post http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6482&mode=nested#Comment-... which takes over a minute to load, then 5 minutes later I try again and it loads in < 2secs.
Nick
I was just replying, and reading now, no slow down at all. It loads a little slow running through all that text, but no where near the minutes everyone says it takes them, even on dialup.

Humm very strange it works well for me,
I just tested it myself, seems reasonably fast in firefox 2.0.0.1 on windows 2000, on gentoo x86 with firefox 2.0.0.1, and on gentoo amd64 firefox 2.0.0.1.
I added, then removed, then edited a test result. Speed seemed normal.

Out of complete curiosity, what kind of problem caused only some people to slow down, while me, on dial-up sped right along? Lol.

A few problems.
First off, the web server and smtp server for winehq.org are all on the same box. WineHQ just gets hammered with spam some days. All that spam load takes I/O away from mysql. I've updated the mail daemon to go into a queue only mode when the load average gets to high.
Secondly, for those who admin the appdb. Some pages send out email. The default settings for PHP when sending mail are very slow. I changed a setting in PHP to speed that up.

I still find appdb really slow 60 seconds to view some pages, post on the forums etc.... It's driving me nuts to the point I've gone back to real life for a while as it's less frustrating. BTW this problems exists on systems separated by over 100 miles (but same login account) so it not hardware at my end.
I'll check back now and again to see if it's fixed.
Apart from that, keep up the good work devs, wine's functionality is improving all the time but appdb needs fixing.

I'm actually noticing it a little now... about a minute hang sometimes then poof it's up. So it's not a crawl... just a hang. It's weird really. Feels like too many people trying to connect for the server to handle so it throws them to the queue, or similar.

I only seem to have this problem when I am logged in. When I am not logged in it seems that there is no lag at all. I tried to do some administration and just logging in took 2 minutes. I was able to confirm a bunch of bug links and things were fine for most of them but about every 10th bug link I confirmed it would just seem to hang for a minute or two. I then tried to confirm some application submissions and every time it took at least 3 minutes to process.
When I am logged in I frequently will get lags of a minute or two just viewing apps. This does not happen all the time and I have not found any reason why it should slow down at all. Visiting the same page at the same time with a not logged in account shows no slow down.

Hi Tony,
That's absolutely 100% exactly the same symptoms I get. It only appears to be a problem if I login. It appears to be getting worse as the weeks progress, I'm sure when this started happening it was only about a minute or less delay, now like you say it is 3 minutes. It's most annoying for me when I login to reply to posts on the forum. I get the feeling that not everybody suffers from this as much as we do, otherwise we'd see many more posts about the subject ?
BTW the following procedure was done on a OpenSuse 9.3 system with Firefox & Opera browsers. One other thing I noticed if I login (using Firefox), reply to a message on the forum then after pressing submit it just sits there, I then open up opera but don't login just view the posts, my post is there and yet Firefox is still hanging there waiting for a page update which 3 minutes later it gets. So basically my post gets added to the database pretty quick it's the page update that is delayed. Don't know if that makes any sense ?

I am also suffering from the problem. If no one except for the administrators are seeing this issue, then it has to be the administration bar that is causing the problems, otherwise it could also be a problem with sessions.
So my questions is
Is anyone except for the administrators seeing this issue?

Hi Tony,
That's absolutely 100% exactly the same symptoms I get.
I am also suffering from the problem. If no one except for the administrators are seeing this issue, then it has to be the administration bar that is causing the problems, otherwise it could also be a problem with sessions.
So my questions is
Is anyone except for the administrators seeing this issue?
I may be seeing this issues on my local test setup as well. A great tool that I would recommend is xdebug. http://www.xdebug.org/docs-profiling.php This produces profiling output that is parsed by kcachegrind. I'll see if I can get xdebug setup on my local install tonight, it should be easy to spot once that is working.

Cheers Nick

I'm experiencing the same problems. Sometimes the AppDB doesn't come up at all, but when it does it works fine, then I really don't notice a problem until I login or try to login.
