Wineconf agenda

Hi Folks, Okay, so Wineconf 2006 is nearly upon us, and I realize that we have no agenda. That may actually be a Good Thing (TM), and I think I'd like to leave it as unstructured as possible, frankly. We'll obviously start with a keynote by Alexandre. The talk by Charles was well received last year, so I've asked Dan Kegel to speak on behalf of ISVs again this year. >From there, I always like to hear an update on the state of games, and I'd like to have Martin present CxTest once again. Anything else? Anybody have anything they have a burning issue to present? Frankly, my druthers would be to clear a chunk of whiteboard early in the day, have folks propose topics, and have people informally sort out into groups of interest and persue those areas. Let me know if you've got something you're eager to present or eager to hear about. (Or don't, and then that will leave lots of time to propose it as a meeting topic instead :-/). Cheers, Jeremy

Hi Folks, I got a brief repreive from the U of Reading, so I'm sending them the final counts tomorrow morning, so this is your last chance to request a room. Also, I'd like to start a thread on proposed meeting topics, so I'd like to ask everyone that's coming to make sure that they're subscribed to the wineconf mailing list so they can follow along. Announcing Wineconf 2006, urgent need for head count

Hi folks, I am pleased to announce that Rob Shearman has arranged for us to have Wineconf in his home town, Reading, in the UK. It will be held at the University of Reading: http://www.fmd.rdg.ac.uk/res/CommercialAccommodation.asp It will be on the weekend of September 16 and 17. We have a wrinkle we need your help on. That is, as we make our deposit (which we need to do quickly), we have to tell them how many rooms we want to reserve. The have a good deal on rooms (40 pounds/night, which is quite good, afaict). The trick is that we have to pay for all the rooms we reserve ahead of time; we can't ask for 50 rooms and then only use 43. We have to pay for all 50. We may be able to ask for 50 rooms, and then get another 3 or 4, although that's not guaranteed. So, *if you want a room at Wineconf*, please fill in this form ASAP: http://www.winehq.org/site/wineconf/survey06 If you're not sure you'll make it, but think you might, we have a choice for that too <grin>. Survey results

Well, we didn't get a huge set of results (only 18 answers), so I'm not sure how statistically interesting this is; answers continue to trickle in, but I thought I'd report on what we have so far. But several things emerged as conclusive to me. First, out of the 18 responses, 8 voted for Sat/Sun, 4 for Fri/Sat, 3 for Weekdays (3 didn't pick). That seems like Sat/Sun then is our best choice. Second, again out of that sample, we had 8 for the UK, 5 for DE, 3 for MN, 1 for Northern California, and 1 for any old where. That implies Europe pretty strongly to me, and also suggests a pretty solid nod to the UK. As for the dates, there wan't any real consensus. The only thing that emerged was that September 16th was the only date that *everyone* could make. That suggests to me that we should nail down September 16th *now* before that changes. Rob, are you still game for organizing this near Reading? Other thoughts/comments are welcome. Cheers, Jeremy

Wineconf 2006?

Hello guys, i know everybody is busy working on the Wine 0.9 release and forgot about next years Wineconf. I just wanted to give Jeremy White a little bit of time to organize the Wineconf 2006 end of january in the Minneapolis Ice Palace ;) Are there any other plans for the Wineconf 2006 besides the default failover solution? Wine printer configuration

We are setting up an application that needs to be available at around 350 locations. Everything seems to work fine. We can start the application we can print, etc... My problem is now that because wine is running on the server we had to configure the 350 IP based printers also at the server side. Can we filter out the printer for location X if there is a connection from location X? so that they only see that printer that is located in their location and not the other 349 printers. I doubt that it is possible but I have to figure out a way to fix it. Or can i configure wine in that way so that he will print to the remote cups server of the client that is connecting. -- Sven Jacobs Because Great Minds Think Alike
