Program for Friday afternoon :-)

'lo all, As I arrive beginning of the afternoon on the Friday (actually, I should be at 1 PM at the train station), who would be there to do something on the afternoon (like visiting Stuttgart or stuff like that) ? I should only have a backpack so I could leave directly from the station and only go to the hotel on the evening to check-in and to leave for the evening meal. Planning meals for Wineconf

Folks, I worry that we have left this a little bit too late, and that we have not been giving Herr Gemkow enough support. At this point, I understand that we have the following plans: 1. Coffee to be provided by the University, as they have good high powered coffee makers. 2. Rolls of some sort to be bought and brought in separately by local volunteers, whether that's Michael, Andi, or Brian is not yet clear. The thinking is that most folks will have breakfast at their hotel, so the rolls/donuts are a 'nice to have', not a 'have to have'. 3. Lunch is still open. I think if we just ordered 30 pizzas delivered along with some soda that would suffice. I don't know if there are more elaborate plans than that, or if it would be okay for us to have pizza in the meeting rooms. 4. Dinner Saturday I think we're nearly done on; I understand that Hans-Ulrich is making a reservation for us on Saturday. Is that about right? Am I way behind the curve? It seems to me that if we could have someone to volunteer to take care of rolls (there are two days, so maybe two volunteers), and if someone could volunteer to figure out lunch, that we would maybe have this covered. As far as how this all gets paid for, I think we're still figuring out who is willing to sponsor what events; CodeWeavers will at the least cover any otherwise unclaimed expenses, so folks should certainly feel comfortable scheduling pizza deliveries knowing that someone will step up to pay for it. (I was planning on picking up dinner on Saturday; if all other expenses get to be too much, I'm going to assume no one will mind going dutch on Saturday; we're looking at ~20-25 EUR/person). I'll be arriving at Hahn Frankfurt airport on the 28th, around 10:25. I'll get Stuttgart with a bus/train combination, and if I get all the connections right I should be at the hotel by 14:30. Naturally if you're driving along my same route do let me know and we can meet somewhere. Ivan.

I'll be arriving at Stuttgart on Friday at 11:50, on flight AF1708. I'll be leaving on Monday at 08:30 (early wakeup for me). I won't have a car, but if other people arrive more or less the same time, we can share a taxi/train. I'll be staying at the Deusche Telekom. If anyone is coming on similar times, please let me know. On a different thread, I'm considering buying a Mac mini while there. Can anyone local let me know where a nearby computer store might be that is likely to carry Macs? Audio streaming

Hey, I assumed there was an audio shoutcast for wineconf this year until I noticed this morning I had been reading the archives of 2004. I know, now this might be a bit too late to arrange. But let's try. I have the experience in setting up an audio stream and the general knowledge about audio. But I do not have much portable equipment I can take with me at wineconf. I would mainly be needing a laptop with a _proper_ soundcard and a server doing the actual streaming. What kind of sound system does the conference room have? Do we know specifics? If there is nothing available I can arrange some equipment. If there is equipment available our biggest problem will be getting the signal at the poor 3,5mm jack line-in connections of the laptop. The laptop would need a distro (duh) with basically just ALSA. And a soundcard that can do hardware mixing (multiple local playback streams at once). You can have nice sound at 56kbit/s mp3. So somewhere around a 5mbit connection should be enough for 100 listeners at the stream server (you don't want to do that on the laptop, connections eat memory). What do you all think? Paul

> Personally, I'd prefer a non-streaming solution. I think we'll make anything we record available for download anyway, and if we can also stream it live, so much the better. We'll just get to wineconf with the equipment we have and see what we can get together. Ivan.

The price of admission to Wineconf

Hi Folks, Say, we've been very fortunate; WRS, CodeWeavers, and Lingnu have all offered cash assistance for Wineconf, and many, many people are also providing volunteer services. This means that there will be no fees beyond your own travel and hotel costs, and you may even get a free lunch or two out of the deal. But here's the catch: we need a sizable fraction of attendees to stay through to the bitter end, and help with the cleanup. The University of Stuttgart is generously going to let us use their space all weekend; but it needs to be pristine by 8:00 am on Monday. So, I would like everyone to make a mental note that when we officially adjourn on Sunday, that you should stick around and help make sure everything is clean and orderly. Thanks! Jer

Live streaming

Hello guys, I'll be bringing a webcam to wineconf, and a mic, the picture won't be very good but people should be able to follow what's going on. We'll be using a laptop for the stream, even if we don't know who's one it will be yet, anyway if you have experience in doing this sort of stuff your help would be appreciated. Ivan.
