Need a ride from Frankurt Airport to Stuttgart on Friday?

Audio streaming

Hey, I assumed there was an audio shoutcast for wineconf this year until I noticed this morning I had been reading the archives of 2004. I know, now this might be a bit too late to arrange. But let's try. I have the experience in setting up an audio stream and the general knowledge about audio. But I do not have much portable equipment I can take with me at wineconf. I would mainly be needing a laptop with a _proper_ soundcard and a server doing the actual streaming. What kind of sound system does the conference room have? Do we know specifics? If there is nothing available I can arrange some equipment. If there is equipment available our biggest problem will be getting the signal at the poor 3,5mm jack line-in connections of the laptop. The laptop would need a distro (duh) with basically just ALSA. And a soundcard that can do hardware mixing (multiple local playback streams at once). You can have nice sound at 56kbit/s mp3. So somewhere around a 5mbit connection should be enough for 100 listeners at the stream server (you don't want to do that on the laptop, connections eat memory). What do you all think? Paul

> Personally, I'd prefer a non-streaming solution. I think we'll make anything we record available for download anyway, and if we can also stream it live, so much the better. We'll just get to wineconf with the equipment we have and see what we can get together. Ivan.

The price of admission to Wineconf

Hi Folks, Say, we've been very fortunate; WRS, CodeWeavers, and Lingnu have all offered cash assistance for Wineconf, and many, many people are also providing volunteer services. This means that there will be no fees beyond your own travel and hotel costs, and you may even get a free lunch or two out of the deal. But here's the catch: we need a sizable fraction of attendees to stay through to the bitter end, and help with the cleanup. The University of Stuttgart is generously going to let us use their space all weekend; but it needs to be pristine by 8:00 am on Monday. So, I would like everyone to make a mental note that when we officially adjourn on Sunday, that you should stick around and help make sure everything is clean and orderly. Thanks! Jer

Live streaming

Hello guys, I'll be bringing a webcam to wineconf, and a mic, the picture won't be very good but people should be able to follow what's going on. We'll be using a laptop for the stream, even if we don't know who's one it will be yet, anyway if you have experience in doing this sort of stuff your help would be appreciated. Ivan.

Hello all, since I'm in Karlsruhe, with my parents living close to Stuttgart university, I want to take several days off for wine conference preparations (and possibly cleanup). Could someone give me a rough figure of when I should take some days off and how many? For now I'm thinking of 28. (Thu), 29. (Fri) and possibly 02. (Mon). Local organisation - ideas/requirements/volunteers needed

Hello, we are starting the local organisation of wineconf in Stuttgart now and I propose to form a (small) local organisation group consisting of people with a good feeling for the requirements of the conference. It would be very helpful if especially some people from the region of Stuttgart would join this group and contribute their ideas. Questions are i.e. - suitability of the rooms reserved (there are some alternatives) - which kind of food is wanted - other support (technical and non-technical) - (other questions/ideas you may have) Would people from this list who are willing to join this group please send me a private E-Mail? PGP signing party

Last year's raving success (I exchanged keys with Marcus) gives appetite for more. So, if you always wanted to have a PGP key that most of the free software will know [1]. If you wanted to be able to carry out encrypted secure conversations online. Or if you just want a chance to brag about what well connected key you have [2]. We will (try) to hold a PGP key signing party at wineconf this year. In order to participate, it is positively absolutely necessary that you: 1. Have a PGP key. You can generate one for yourself using gpg. 2. Send the PGP key finger print to me AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE THE CONFERENCE. Any later then that, and it is not certain that we'll manage to get your key on the printed piece of paper that is necessary for carrying out the party. 3. Bring a copy you can trust to wineconf, to make sure other people are really signing your key (i.e. - that I'm not pulling anybody's leg). 4. Bring an identifying ID to wineconf. Two is preferable. Passport or a driver license in a language people can read. If you can only bring one, a passport is definitely preferable. If your PGP key says "lord master of compiler optimization", then your passport had better say the same or no one will be able to sign your key.
