Hi,
as this is my first wineconf and I probably won't recognize people, will there be a meeting point or similar for the gathering on Friday evening?
Kind regards,
Wolfram

The hotel has a bar ;-)
There is a large contingent of people who will arrive around 7am at the airport. The plan is for that contingent to go to the hotel and then spend the day doing touristy stuff. We will be back to the hotel in the late afternoon, presumably some time between 17h00 and 18h00, certainly 19h00 at the very latest. But nothing is set in stone; it will very much depend on how tired that contingent is, weather, etc.
Then we will hang out at the bar and/or the restaurant for diner, if I remember correctly they are next to each other so it should be no issue. We may go out to a nearby bar later in the evening but nothing is decided yet. If that's the case we will try to leave word at the desk.

Great, I will arrive late afternoon and will probably be able to spot "the contingent" then in the bar or restaurant. Thanks for the update!

I suggest everyone wear the most conspicuous "oh yeah he's definitely here for Wineconf" T-shirt they have on Friday.

http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/07157.html says "make that the most conspicuous Wineconf sweater or parka" they have.
How about everybody wear a "Hi, My name is Tux" tag? :-)

I'm afraid that algorithm didn't work too well for me in Zurich.
How about this: look for the sign of the penguin ( http://www.google.com/images?q=linux+penguin ) and have at least one person bring a letter-sized sheet of paper with a big image of the pengin on it, and tape it somewhere at the table... - Dan

That won't work at all! Europe is metric. You would need an A4 paper, rather than letter.

How will knowing how we look (for my picture you have to go back to wineconf 2005 or 2004, I'm afraid) help resolve the interface incompatibility between Dan's US Letter size paper and the bar's metric tables? Think how frustrating it must be to carry a printed penguin all the way with you from the US, only to find out you did it on the wrong paper size....

Friday is expected to be cold, but without rain.
I'm arriving at France on Tuesday, and will spend most of the week at my sister's, about 80Km from Paris. I did book the hotel at Friday night, and I'm not sure how early on Friday I'll be arriving at the hotel. It would be great (though not crucial) if I had some way (i.e. - cell phone?) to rendezvous with the rest of you before you go back to the hotel.

I'd rather not put my cell phone number on the Internet but I can send it privately to anyone who is interested. I'll start by sending it to everyone in this thread.
