The last wineconf was webcasted to the world via this page http://www.lpbn.org/lpbnwine.htm Is there any chance of lpbn or CW webcasting wineconf 2004? A free real server is available from https://www.helixcommunity.org/
Ivan.
Actually, we've got the free Apple streaming server working fairly nicely. mplayer and a working Quicktime player display it nicely as well.
The only problems are 1) Wine + Quicktime don't seem to handle this stream. Ironically, the Wine of quite old vintage (cxplugin 1.2 timeframe) handles it fine. 2) Quicktime 6.5 doesn't run in Wine atm.
I've been hacking at this the last few days and haven't made any progress, but am hopeful that we'll have a workable and not shameful plan of attack.
Cheers,
Jeremy

I am planning on attending WineConf and I have significant professional skill as a videographer. I've got a firewire camcorder and a decent wireless microphone. I'd love to be of service in this way.

I'll be coming with a camera 2. Should I bring the wireless mic as well?
Joe If you have the skills I think we should appoint you to be chief Producer/Director. It looks like we have the Video-streaming server, a couple of cameras, I could be a second photographer if you need. Now its up to you to envision the broadcast.

My skills are in filming, directing, lighting, switching & videography.
I'm not sure how to do the live streaming server stuff, but we can always put it on tape for archival viewing later on. Of course the beauty of broadcasting live is that you can multicast (with special ISP routing provisions) requiring less bandwidth.
I think the LPBN.org folks should be consulted for the broadcasting part. As for editing the material, that can be done on Linux as well as will be shown at the Madison Linux User Group on Jan 13th, 2004. I can help getting images that the viewers can see and that are stable and look good with clear audio so the quality doesn't distract from the content.
Is there any thought to doing multiple breakout seminars at the same time? I once arranged video coverage for an event where there were 9 different seminars happening at the same time for about 5 timeslots.

Yah - the LPBN folks have always been helpful when I've worked with them. And it'd sure be nice to have you come in with all the gear we need for a clear recording - I recall folks on IRC saying last time that they had a hard time hearing.
However, and I may well be a bit foolish here, I don't really know that we need to worry that much. I find it hard to believe that more than a few people will watch the streams live, and I think we've got the bandwidth for that. It would probably be prudent to see if we can get a mirror or two (anyone in Europe care to volunteer?)

There will likely be gatherings outside the main room, but they'll be informal, and not appropriate for filming (in fact, I'm hoping the same is true of most of the 'main' topics - I'd rather have fun <grin>).
Cheers,
Jeremy
Cool! I'd love to have your help, Joe.
Let me tell you what we've planned so far; please feel free to kibitz.
We've got a spare Mac that we don't use for much, but we had done a video capture project on it a while back, so we know it does that nicely.
We've got the Mac Quicktime broadcaster on that Mac, and the Mac is on our local network (although we're still working out exactly how we're going to connect our local network to the downstairs room, but I think we're almost there). The Mac broadcasts across our relatively slow internet pipe (DSL) to the main Wine server, where we're running the Linux based Quicktime streaming server. The Wine server has a nice big fat pipe to the 'net, so bandwidth from there shouldn't be an issue (although we could also easily set up a relay to any other servers folks wanted to set up).
Last thing on my todo list is figuring out how to get the server to archive the stream. It can be done on the Mac, but it has a (comparitively) tiny hard drive, so I'm not sure that's the way to go.
We don't have a decent mic, and we're using an old cruddy video camera atm (and I'd just as soon not persuade my wife to let me bring in our spiffy new one <grin>). Further, none of us are experts at this in any way shape or form, so we'd love to have the help.
Cheers,
Jeremy
