Hello everyone,
This weekend it is WineConf, in Zurich Switzerland. Here are some handy details.
Firstly if you get stuck, phone me. My number is +41 78 601 8607
For those of you staying at the Hotel Rex, it is only one tram ride to get to the Google office on Freigutstrasse.
Here is a map showing useful things:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&om=1&msa=0&msid...
Notice the tram stop just up the road. You need on it, heading to Tunnelstrasse. There are signs on each side detailing the stops it will make in that direction, it should be fairly self explanatory. Make sure you go in the right direction! You want the tram heading south from the hotel.
I'll try and get a photo tour done tomorrow during my lunch break. There'll be lunch Saturday/Sunday (just easy finger foods really), and CodeWeavers is generously buying us on Saturday evening at the Bierhalle Wolf (I told them to expect between 35 and 50 people for fondue, which might be a bit optimistic, we'll see).
What time are we going to start? 9:30ish?
thanks -mike
Great, thanks, Mike!
Do you have further details on a suggested meeting place for Friday afternoon/evening?
I know Alexandre would be happier if we started officially at 9:30; would it be alright, though, if the doors opened at 8:30 so folks could start congregating?
Also, as far as an agenda, I seem to recall that last year we had a white board with suggested topics, and then had show of hands voting to pick topics. Same sort of plan work for this year?
Cheers,
Jeremy

I forgot something (of course I forgot something). On Friday from about 6:30pm I'll be hanging out in the Oliver Twist. It's a pub in the old town area, also marked on the map. For those arriving in Zurich that night, if you aren't too jet lagged come say hello and get some beers! That area is swarming with food shops and restaurants so don't worry about being hungry.
To make myself extra visible, I will be wearing something obviously non-Swiss, probably my eye bleedingly loud zen t-shirt, with a google cap (I can't find my CodeWeavers t-shirt *sniff*).
If you can't find us ask the bar dude/dudette for wineconf. If we move on for some reason I'll let them know where we've gone.

Great!
I think it's important to point out that there is nothing to stop others from convening *before* 6:30; hopefully there will be enough of us there first that we can laugh hysterically at Mike's outfit when he comes in <evil grin>.
Also, in the hopes of starting a trend, I updated the Wiki page with my itinerary so folks know when to look for me (so they can avoid me <grin>).
Cheers,
Jeremy

Damn, and I had to miss that!
Enjoy the conference, guys. I'm sorry I couldn't come.

Hi all,
Sadly, I can't make it this year. I hope everyone has fun and productive time!

Someone take a photograph, please!
Oh, and if the slides could be uploaded somewhere, that would be great.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Mike,
thanks for the details. What is the best way to reach Hotel Rex from the airport? Do you have rough idea about taxi price? (so they do not rob us too much :)
Thanks, Martin

Actually, it looks like the public transit system works brilliantly.
Lei has a page up on the Wineconf page that talks about how to use the trip planner, which I wish'd he'd put up *before* I spent an afternoon puzzling through it <grin>.
The Hotel Rex appears to be closest to a Tram line (Line #7), and the relevant stop is: Zürich, Ottikerstrasse
To get there from the airport (Zürich Flughafen), we need to go through the main train station (Zürich HB), which is a 10 minute ride from the Airport. From there, we walk to find the #7 tram, which leaves from Zürich, Bahnhofstrasse/HB. Then it's a 6 minute ride to the Ottikerstrasse street.
Here are the prices: http://www.zvv.ch/_tourist_e/tickets.asp
It looks like CHF 12 (red button plus funky symbol) will get us to the hotel, and 24 hours of travel around 10 as well. Each day, then, it looks like we can buy a 24 hour pass for another 7.80 CHF.
(I've added the above to the Wiki page)
Mike, do you know - could we buy the 24 hour day passes (Green button :-/) ahead of time, and then just validate them as our former ticket expires?
Cheers,
Jeremy

Yes. Walk out of the front entrace to the station, you'll see a tram stop straight ahead. That's not the one you want! Instead, carry on going straight and cross the bridge. You'll see another tram station called "Central". That has the number 7.

Sorry, I don't think so. The ticketing system in Zurich is rather primitive, because all the locals just buy yearly passes. You'll find most people just walk on and off, without buying tickets - that's why. Make sure you have coins!
