What would happen if you fooled a game that needed 256 colour depth into thinking that's what it is running in while it is actually running at 24bit? I ask this as I am unable to change my colour depth and reduce my resolution below 640x480. And even when I could change my colour depth it meant restarting the X-server. It has never been successfully installed via the installer but it has still been possible to install and open/start the rest of the program (in order to rip and stuff). Attached is a log of running "wine Alcohol52.exe" without debugger attached, but I can attach a log with relevant flags if anyone knows what those might be. The program is freeware and can be obtained from http://www.filefacts.com/alcohol-52-free-edition-info (linked from official alcoholsoft.com website). I suspect the application is selecting the first interface. Sadly there is no way to override this. I included a full trace, keywords to look trough are winsock, 127.0.0.1, winsock:bind socket etc. Any help is welcome and if more info is needed let me know. Wine: 9.10-1 and < Archlinux, Kernel 6.9.3. X68_64 A VNC instance where the issue can be reproduced is available on request. A license key for Farming Simulator 2022 can be provided by me on request. However if I use the mouse wheel to cycle through the available images then any of the available portraits can be selected. The last Wine version where the mouse button still worked: Wine-7.5. This is the commit where the problem first occured: commit d42888f07c6e3e491c99bb5c8b62b568264e990c user32: Use NtUserMessageCall for SendMessageA implementation. Plain terminal output doesn't show anything related. Demo version is not available. I tested with the GOG.com version of the game. If you try to skip the intro, it works until you try to play another video, at which point the game locks up. This issue appears to have been present in both reports on AppDB, dating from 2008 to 2011. I tried using winetricks to install avifil32.dll, which failed, so I grabbed the DLL out of the exe it downloads manually and installed it myself, to no avail. If I trace all, I find a bunch of MCI spam around when it hangs up, so that might be the faulty component. I've attached a truncated log, since it just repeats that spam until I force quit. Since Proton always uses DXVK for Direc3D 11 rendering (the dgVoodoo2 output), it was common to combine dgVoodoo2 with DXVK to wrap old DirectX and 3dfx Glide code to Direct3D 11, leaving DXVK to translate to Vulkan. As the time goes around, Dege was wary the fact that the last version of this own creation is now 2.86.2 at the time of writing and Lutris never update beyond 2.80 or a modded version called 2.8.2 After some testing and a rare game called Montezuma's Return which have a 3dfx version, I discovery that using dgVoodoo2 over Wine's vanilla DirectX 11 implementation also had the same problems like Proton or Wine-GE (modded versions) with DXVK. This old Glide game works with the lastest dgVoodoo2 without problems, while DirectDraw games like Omikron or Carmageddon TDR2000 fail to work using the lastest dgVoodoo2, but older versions worked fine. But the latter games had GPU diagnose tools and a pattern was found. If the dgVoodoo2 wrapper works, then the virtual dgVoodoo DirectX wrapper appears on devices list. If not, it displays the Wine's safe mode software renderer (DirectDraw HAL). Forcing playing the game, makes them crash or running at slowest speeds. After all testing, the issue happens either using DXVK or Wine's DirectX implementation, meaning that the problem should be found on Wine's code. Computers with Mesa drivers at certain games could start dgVoodoo2 2.86.2 on games like Omikron, which means that this open-source drivers code had an unintended workaround to force dgVoodoo2 to work, but this is rare and not always work. The test with Montezuma Return shows that the emulation code from Glide to DirectX works on Wine, along the DirectDraw emulation that work on certain cases. It stopped working a while ago. Tried to switch Operating System (XP, Win10, ...) but without success. This works in "real" windows (WinXP, Win7, Win10, Win11). See the stack trace for more information. This happens when I try to open a FTPS connection that is secured. FTP without encryption still works. I haven't tried SFTP, if that fails as well, as I do not have an FTP server supporting this. In the log there were indications that something might be wrong with the xaudio 2_7 dll. So I just applied faudio via winetricks and the games work again. Unfortunately this is not a permanent solution as there is a bug on platforms like Mac OS, FreeBSD that if you use native,buildin xaudio the sound does not work correctly in terms of stuttering and slightly distorted sound. As far as I know the games worked correctly in Wine 6.0.1. Unfortunately it is not possible for me to test more in wine-devel because the port is very often defective and also just once again not working. Seems to loose focus on the wine window? Click on something, and the try entering a character, and nothing happens. Have to click on top of wine window to get focus back, and then pressing key works. I've noticed the with Pegasus email 4.91, but not sure if it is only with that app, or with many apps. Another user posted an issue with an earlier wine issue with Pegasus. But think this is new with 10.17. I've also noticed, that it seems to also have the XFCE bottom panel pop up at same time. Generally, it hides when not in use, but should only pop back up when mouse is moved in that lower area, but in this case the mouse pointer is no where near that area?? Almost no difference on the post-revert version. Wine version 10.11 had introduced a new update to winewayland driver that makes Roblox Studio on Wayland more usable, sometimes more than it's X11 counterpart due to lesser microstutters and almost non-existent flickering (most likely due to buggy implementation of the Vulkan child windowing system). Ever since the patch introduced in c756ea4e801d7eae32bc8a00efa26fc0f0f47819, Studio on winewayland is broken again like <=10.10 (e.g. invisible home screen, out-of-place teamcreate/contribute button, 3D workspace layer overriding GUIs including the script viewer, etc). Light Mount Silent Tactile) the USB-connection is reseted once every second while wine is running. output from journalctl: kernel: usb 7-1.1: reset full-speed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd This makes the keyboard unusable (for all applications not just wine) since key-events are not transmitted reliably anymore. At the moment the wine/windows-application is closed, the keyboard works fine again. There are some errors printed out from the hid-component (see atached stdout.txt). A standard windows text-box should open in the upper-left corner of the screen letting you input a new name for that object. This text window is hidden behind the game screen when it is opened thus it is inaccessible/not usable. Tried with virtual desktop mode and fullscreen: both have the same issue. Nothing obvious appears in the terminal. Last version when it worked: Wine-6.0. Bisecting revealed commit 4ce1d7f93a35322d149cbde29d619e2580159a80 was the culprit. Can't revert it on current Wine but the rename window appears properly with the previous commit. Steps to reproduce in RCT 2 demo: Start a new game with the left-most icon at the bottom, select either "Crazy Castle" or "Six Flags Belgium" scenario. Left-click on an object to open an information window, select the rename icon (looks like a brownish name-tag). A text-box is opened but it is placed behind the game screen. It is installed on small embedded PCs with AMD Geode LX processors at 500 MHz and 1 GB RAM and we have about 100 of these machines. After upgrading a test machine to newer Linux distributions and Wine 4.x the application crashes in its network functions. When booting the same hard drive via USB on a modern PC everything works, so the bug might be driver related. (But it works on the older kernel!) When attaching to the Windows process, the application crashes and Winedbg says "Can't attach to process ... Error 5". I have tried various Linux distributions using 4.x kernels (Bodhi Linux 5, Linux Mint Debian Edition 3, Debian 9.9, Debian 10, Ubuntu 16.04) and also tried Wine 2.0.2, which is the oldest available binary package, and everytime the above error occurs. Building a custom Linux kernel for the machine also didn't change anything. Trying to build Wine 1.7.18 on Debian 10 resulted in several compile time errors that I am not able to fix, so I am stuck with available binary packages. Debugging and changing the Windows application itself managed to move the crash from the first network connect to when the application is shutdown. Only widely available network component libraries for Delphi were used (Indy and ICS), there is no self-developed net code. So, the same Windows executable works with Wine 1.7.13 on Linux 3.11, but it crashes in Wine 4.x (I tried several packages from Ubuntu and Debian from winehq) on modern 4.x Linux kernels on this machine. When I open a *.xlsx file at the desktop and save it (with the same name) to an *.ods file then Excel 2010 will create two files. One is a *.lnk (which points to the original xlsx) and the other is a shortcut regarding the ods file but also with *.ods ending. Wine would append a correctly aligned NUL Unicode character to terminate the string but overflow the buffer by one byte for odd-sized strings. Windows instead overwrites the last two buffer bytes with a NUL Unicode character which ends up being misaligned for odd-sized strings. The clipboard data has a size field anyway so match the Windows behavior.
