If you click Continue, the installer opens INSTALL.TXT in Notepad. When you close Notepad, the installer should continue, but instead it hangs. If you click Skip, the installer works but hangs after installation. The attached patch fixes the problem, mostly. For some reason you have to click the background after closing Notepad, and the installer still hangs at the end. Whenever a program uses mouse warping, a bounding box may trap it at a random time. This is temporarily resolved by causing the window to lose focus. I first knew this bug to occur on 2.4, and it may have been earlier. I knew 2.0 to work perfectly in this regard, but Steam now crashes on that version and cannot test 2.1-2.3. I've created a video demonstrating situations where this occurs. Tests were done by creating a completely new prefix for each tested version. Three Games: - Worms Revolution Gold Edition - Vertical Drop Heroes HD - Tower 57 are not working at all, as the display shows less than 1/4 of the screen being extremely blurred. So all show the same problem and all have low res grphics. I am using 4k screen with DPI factor 256 and I thought changing one or both - scaling and resolution - would do the job. But the small part of the game output visible does not even change in any way when using FHD (1920x1080) res. Is this a known problem or can you give infos/links about this problem? I think "Worms Revolution" is a game which should work as it is really famous for a reason. Unfortunately GOG is only providing support for the OS given - so in that case for Windows - which I would not use. I discussed about trying to support Wine, too - but at least concerning the support they have orders which does not help gamers. I am an experienced Unix administratior form Sciences and IT industry and if I can help, I can provide further info if one could guide about the important parameters. Unfortunately I am not yet prepared to use development versions of Wine an I am astonished that it is not more important to give the latest stable version. Wine HW did a great job as e.g. Atari Reacharged can not work except for "Blach Widow Recharged" with Wine 9 (Kubuntu 24.04 LTS based) while all work flawlessly with Wine 10. If you can give hint to further information, I would be happy. As my tries getting info like AppDB did not work for me at all. The field value is "<HT>www.test.org<HT>x" ("<HT>" denotes a single horizontal tab character), yet Wine shows just "www.test.orgx" in the field. However, Wine clearly knows the horizontal tab characters are present, because it shows them in the text field tooltip stating (in English) "Website address<NEW LINE>[<TEXT FIELD VALUE>]". Bug 58577 plays an important role on this. I actually would love to get my hands dirty, if not for 2 problems: 1. I don't actually have much time myself. 2. Many years ago, I disassembled a different component of Windows (related to MDM/management policy) in order to debug my graduating project. I forgot everything by now, and it's IMHO not related, but combined with 1. I think it's probably better to stay safe. (Can I explain some high-level idea? Will I run afoul of 2.?) Therefore I asked for inclusion of [1] "spurious short writes", which got accepted at 2025-04-25. Thank you very much for it. Unfortunately short after it I found there is still an issue, which was a few months not there. So I started bisecting and arrived at [2] d9d012965de, "ntdll: Always map files as writable and adjust permissions.", committed at 2025-03-25. Unfortuntately this can not be cleanly reverted at current git, but with three more commits reverted it makes a wine tree, which can be used with rr-debugger [2]. I could reduce the changes of this 4 commits to a few lines which, are also able to produce a wine tree usable with rr-debugger [3]. This patch is only changing behaviour once for each .exe process, when the session shared memory gets mapped in via the fd received from wineserver. With unmodified Wine this is currently done with a MAP_PRIVATE flag, which turns out is currently just mapping the file content into the process, but does not receive the updates from wineserver. To investigate if this can be fixed in rr I opened [4]. Unfortunately this would be expected to create a overall slowdown for rr. Therefore I wonder if this change was intentional, to map the session shared memory with mmap(MAP_PRIVATE)? When looking at virtual_map_user_shared_data the shared memory gets mapped with mmap(MAP_SHARED). Would something like [3] be acceptable for inclusion?
