But if I force the flatpak behavior: gdbus call --session \ --dest org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop \ --object-path /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop \ --method org.freedesktop.portal.OpenURI.OpenFile \ --timeout 5 \ "" "3" {} 3< /usr/lib/wine/x86_64-windows/winemine.exe then the program is opened. The arch package basically does effectively the same as installing with, make prefix=/usr ... install so it does end up with wine.desktop in /usr/share/applications. The packages from dl.winehq.org don't, since they install to /opt/wine-devel or similar. Probably it's not the ony distribution that does that. But at least looking over at debian, according to https://packages.debian.org/trixie/all/wine/filelist the file is put into /usr/share/doc/wine/examples/wine.desktop instead. for `xdg-mime query ...` I get application/vnd.microsoft.portable-executabl, which seems to be a subclass of application/x-msdownload, which has as alias application/x-msdos-executable, so therfore wine.destop is selected. If I remove this file, I get a "choose application to open this file..." when running the dbus command. Looking through the installed .desktop files, I can find at least one other file that could also be used the same way - https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/java-openjdk/-/bl… has: Exec=/usr/lib/jvm/java-26-openjdk/bin/java -jar MimeType=application/x-java-archive;application/java-archive;application/x-jar; That would also classify as runner, not as opener. But here there's also a second application that claims the same mime type, org.kde.ark.desktop, which prevents the automatic opening and causes the selection dialog to be shown. Without the org.kde.ark.desktop file, jars will be automatically executed. Lastly, the security note on xdg-mime advises to not set a runner as *default*, not against having runnes present in the first place. It's also prominently placed on the `xdg-mime default ...` sub-command. So it could be argued that since it can't be known if something is a runner or opener, choosing any application as default without it actually being explicitly set as default goes against that advice. But it's the portal which is doing that. "the default handler is an opener, not a runner" sounds strange in that context. But letter is shown correctly in same textbox. Pressing CTRL+<umlaut> produce letter AND keycode. - Pressing "ö" crashes MailStore-Client with "arithmetic" error. Works fine with 11.0 stable. Works fine if Ctrl+ö is pressed, too. I've noticed this behavior since wine 11.8. Copy&Paste works fine in all tested applications. So I think it's something wrong with keyboard-press-eventhandling? Attached is the output. I am running Linux Mint 22.3 and the game is the original early 2000s CD-ROM versions. Further more, I did use Winetricks to integrate d3dx9, directplay,and l3codecx so as to accommodate for other games in the prefix. I tried the older expansion Warchiefs and that crashed as well. I did not find any in-game display settings which is odd. Confirmed for wine-11.9-0c0d2643208 for both x11 and wayland for both WINED3D/gl and DAMAVAND/vk renderers for game version 1.0.1.1180. Game also auto pulls updates from network which have their own versions displayed for splash screen which may cause different behaviors over time. For this test update 1.1.46.209741.218510 upgraded to 1.1.59.209741.220002. Mouse clicks do not register despite game being aware of mouse move positions which is apparent by hovering over the skip button (top right during intro video) which changes color and holding Ctrl while moving mouse during gameplay which displays an orange circle beneath cursor (holding Alt handles offsetting orange circle). Mouse clicks fixed by resizing window to compatible dimensions. Simply double clicking the window title during intro video resizes window to dimension which registers mouse click for skip video button for Debian 13. However that dimension only registers mouse clicks for a small extent from the top of the screen that the skip video button falls within and does not extend to the initial gameplay choose buttons and requires manual resize for mouse clicks to be registered to extent of gameplay buttons farther from the top of the screen. Resize seems necessary after window loses focus (such as Alt+Tab away and back) to re-trigger mouse click fix again. Similar err logs have been reported for other games but unclear if they were caused by MangoHUD which is fairly useful for debugging game bugs so it seems worth mentioning that it may be the cause of err logs for some games in which case those games should be tested without MangoHUD to check different behavior. When I open the wine configuration app, wine mine, and dungeondraft they are scaled so the ui is too small to read. I can partially fix this by changing the screen resolution but then when I switch to my external monitor (1440p at 100% scaling) everything is way to big and I need to restart my apps.
