Dear Wine Development Staff I write to you, bringing up a pressing matter regarding Fusion360's ability to run on wine 11.8. Upon opening Fusion360 (Latest release, 5, 11, 2026), I'm met with an immediate--unmistakable crash alert from a wine debug window, informing of the leading events toward the crash exception, outlined in ambiguous descriptions, and detailed hex dumps. I'm unable to resolve the issue myself, as I lack the expertise to properly diagnose the crash. I can confirm with absolute clarity, that the root of the issue stems from a deficiency in wine's mimicked windows subsystem, not the integrity of my system. As Fusion has a-long history of failing to launch for each consecutive update. The reason for why I bring such an issue as this, is because I request that this bug be vanquished from wine's subsystem, thus giving rise to the potential of resolving a whole host of breakages relating to proprietary code, which may be shared amidst many more applications beyond my knowledge. I am assuming that you are launching the game from steam using Proton Experimental. 4. Copy 32 and 64 bit gdi32.dll from <wine repo path>/build/dlls/gdi32/i386-windows/gdi32.dll (for 32bit) and <wine repo path>/dlls/gdi32/x86_64-windows/gdi32.dll 5. Paste the 32bit dll in "~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton - Experimental/files/lib/wine/i386-windows" and the 64bit in "~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton - Experimental/files/lib/wine/x86_64-windows" 6. Launch the game as normal from steam and test. Recently noticed multiple winedevice.exe processes remain open while testing Foundation Galactic Frontier: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59248 At first I thought it was just an issue with this game because it seems to launch background services as if meant to linger including producing a separate window with a game icon that appears intended for systemtray. The game cannot be reliably tested for different rendering backends and Windows versions without killing the winedevice.exe processes; otherwise the previous state is loaded. Since that game brought winedevice.exe to my attention I've been trying to pay closer attention to its behavior for other games some of which I've noticed also keeping windevice.exe open. Typically, gamescope exits whenever its child process exits. However, with this setup, gamescope never exits, because its child never exits. When the game exits, a winedevice.exe process lingers, forever. I piped the output to a log file. The intermediate file has about 170 MB (uncompressed). So I tested instead: a) wine 11.7 without the Olympus Data folder: runtime error during the import (backtrace and log file attached) for comparison I re-installed the stable version b) wine 11.0 without the Olympus Data folder: import works (log file attached) c) wine 11.0 with shared folder: runtime error ...and then installed the latest devel version d) wine 11.8 without the Olympus Data folder: import works (log file attached) e) wine 11.8 with the shared Olympus Data folder: hangs with an intermediate log file of about 170 MB I assume that the error would also be triggered with a much smaller number of albums and images.
