I’m having trouble because my .NET 4.x app no longer runs on the latest version of Wine@Staging. Crashing application (mirror)：https://x.gd/gx1aT Ever since I got an error trying to install dotnet40 with winetricks, that's been it. But it was working just fine before that. Other than that, Legacy DirectX Games is starting without problem. (but weave deinterlacing. why?) Resetting the prefix didn’t make a difference, and since I have no idea how to fix this, I’m at a loss. It looks like ntdll is causing the problem, but to be honest, I'm not really sure what's going on. On wine 11.10 every call in the sequence returns `S_OK` — `RegisterEffectFromString`, `CreateEffect`, `CreateBitmap`, `SetValue`, `SetInput`, `DrawImage`, `EndDraw` — but **no pixels are written**: a D3D11 staging readback of the target is all-zero. On Windows the same binary renders the expected pixels. ## Reproducing Attached `d2dprobe.cpp` (32-bit, builds with MSVC or clang-cl; prebuilt `d2dprobe.exe` attached): creates a D3D11 device + texture, wraps it via `CreateDxgiSurfaceRenderTarget`, registers the custom effect, draws a 16x16 bitmap through it, and reads the target back through a staging texture. Prints each hr and the OR of the sampled pixels. - wine 11.10 (vanilla, new-WOW64 build): `readback OR of sampled pixels = 00000000 (ALL ZERO - draw did not land)` — all hrs S_OK. - Windows 10: pixels rendered. ## Real-world impact X-Wing Alliance Upgrade (XWAU 2025, the community mod for the 1999 LucasArts game on Steam/GOG) renders its entire HD concourse UI through exactly this pattern (hook_concourse). We currently ship an application-side workaround, but the native path returning S_OK while drawing nothing on 11.10 means apps cannot even detect the failure. ## Proposed patches (attached) Two patches against wine-11.10 (also apply to current git), validated with the attached repro on 11.10: 1. `0001-d2d1-Store-the-pixel-shader-constant-buffer-set-thro.patch` — implements the `ID2D1DrawInfo::SetPixelShaderConstantBuffer` stub (stores a copy on the draw info; custom effects upload their shader constants through it from `PrepareForRender`). 2. `0002-d2d1-Render-single-draw-transform-custom-effects-in-.patch` — minimal execution path in `d2d_device_context_DrawImage` for the common case (single draw-transform graph with a pixel shader): calls `PrepareForRender`, renders input 0 through the registered (already compiled) shader 1:1 into an intermediate texture with the draw-info constant buffer bound, then composites the intermediate through the existing bitmap path so context transform/clips apply. Passthrough graphs draw their input directly; unsupported graph shapes now set `E_NOTIMPL` on the context instead of failing silently. With both applied, the attached repro goes from `readback OR = 00000000 (ALL ZERO)` to `FFFF0000` — the correct premultiplied opaque-red output for its input — and the game's HD UI renders. Limitations are commented in the code (SCENE_POSITION is approximated; multi-node graphs, vertex shaders, resource textures and intermediates-between-nodes remain unimplemented and now fail loudly). Dialogue box comes up, drop-down boxes are working, but radio buttons for switching between "default printer" and an alternate printer are not selectable. Have compared the print dialogue between Wine vs a native install under Windows XP (SP3) and notice some text from the Windows install does not show up under Wine. Also tried the same thing with the "free" version of FTM2005se available at http://past.familytreemaker.com/download/starter.aspx and found it's behavior is the same. So I will describe steps from there, since it would be eaier for someone to get that to test against. STEPS TO RECREATE: 1: Set up wine profile with "WINEPREFIX=/home/jelabarre/wine-apps/ftw2005 winecfg"; set winver to "Windows XP", point the Documents directory under Desktop Integration to my own Documents directory 2: install FTW2005 by running "WINEPREFIX=/home/jelabaWINEPREFIX=/home/jelabarre/wine-apps/ftw2005 wine ./FamilyTreeMaker2005se.exe", accept all defaults. 3: open FTW 2005 from "Wine" menu entry on Gnome menu. Selected "Buy Later" from popup window (does not affect outcome, as same print problem occurrs in a regular retail version of FTM7) 4: create new file, or use existing file (same result either way) 5: select "File | Print Setup", then try to select radio button for either "Default Printer" or "Specific Printer". Neither can be selected 6: try selecting a "specific printer" from drop-down box. Printer can be selected, but radio buttons still not functional. 7: after selecting a printer other than the default (such as print-to-PDF) and then try printing. Output will still go to the Linux default printer, no edits of the print settings will take effect. The "Family Archive Viewer v6.0" at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html and "Family Archive Viewer v11.0" at http://www.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html are other variants that exhibits this behavior. Witcher screenshots attached showcase this which has also been encountered for other games: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54372#c9 https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50182 Failing early makes errors much more obvious for unhandled cases which may useful for dev purposes on the one hand but on the other hand seems more misleading and less informative than continuing rendering which often reveals more about what actually is failing such as the case of the witcher which clearly shows that the menu is actually what is unhandled rather than most of the rest of the game which renders nearly consistent with WINED3D/gl. Often splash screens, intro videos, and/or start menus are only unhandled but unclear those in particular have bugs when everything is rendered the same blackscreen.
